I tried the trial version. The game seemed really cool at first BUT the game WOULD NOT PLAY because they said a) we did not have enough Mega hertz, which was totally not true, and b) our graphics card was not up to scratch (or at least not supported by the game) My dad has not updated this computer in terms of hardware since he first got it in 1999. It was pretty up-to-date THEN, but our vidio card is a NVIDIA TNT, which is pretty good. BUT its not good enough now, and considered hopelessly outdated. I like good graphics, but us people with older computers cant SEE them, and I have thus been denied a seemingly great game, and even just its trial version.
Glad I'm not the only one...

...frustrated with this "upgrade." I stopped playing and uninstalled this one when it continually froze up my computer, which is barely a year old and top of the line from HP. Not only that, but Microsoft has changed the game so much from the original that it is definitely not friendly to the adult player anymore. Maybe a kid will have more fun with this simplified game, but I ENJOYED the challenge of creating appropriate exhibits and planning out all the "extras" for my zoo. It was the details like knowing what and how many rocks, square of grass, trees, etc that were challenging and fun for me and those details are gone now.
Granted, the new 3D format is fun and I liked the "guest" mode that lets you see your zoo and animals from a first-person perspective and perform staff tasks. I like that you can interact with the animals in that mode - feed them, groom them, etc. But, the rest of the game is too simplified. I may give it one more try, but if it locks up my computer AGAIN, I'm back to the original ZT.
Here's an idea, Microsoft - add the cool new features like first-person mode to the original ZT, make the game more compatible with a variety of video cards, and release THAT ZT2!
A great game

This is a great game for the first 3 months, then you get bored.
I really liked it at first, it is exciting, making animals, and taking care of them, but it takes forever to build a really good zoo, and then when you have one, there's not much left to do after you have gotten 10,000,000 and you have 20 of everything, and it's dull starting a new one.

We highly anticipated the release of this new version of Zoo Tycoon. All I can say is SAVE YOUR MONEY. This game has so many bugs you should call the exterminator. We printed off TWELVE PAGES of fixes and I finally gave up and took it back to the store. I was running it on a brand new computer with all the bells and whistles too. Unless you want to spend needless time tweeking every little setting on your computer and then still possibly not getting it to work .... I'd stick with the original version. THIS GAME SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED. I feel they rushed it for the holiday shopping season. Too bad.... left a sour taste in my mouth for "NEW AND IMPROVED" .
Be SURE to check your graphics card before buying!

We have been fans of ZooTycoon from the start, and waited for months for the new ZooTycoon2 to come out, and then promptly bought it. We have a couple of decent computers, and never gave it a worry...until you install the game and are advised that it won't run due to graphic card issues. This was a Christmas persant for my son and myself...but it took us a month to play it due to the problems we had. We even tried this game on a friends brand new computer (not a high-end, but new), and the game kept freezing up. First of all, be sure you have at LEAST a 16MB video card (then pray the game will support it - there is a long list of known issues), then make sure you have at LEAST 256MB RAM...which is the mimium (512 recomended), and lastly, your processor needs to be at LEAST running at 1GHZ. I would recomend higher as it makes my 933MHZ grind away the entire time the game is on. The intro to the game is bogus...you can't copy what it shows, but the graphics are pretty good. We actually had to spend a couple hundred bucks to play this game, having to buy a better graphics card and memory. Overall, I think that Blue Fang changed the game too much, trying to get toooo fancy. Fun for kids, but if you haven't bought a decent computer in the last 6 months, order one when you order this game!

We have tried to get this software to work on 3 of our computers, and have had no luck. The game installs, starts to play and then bleeps out. My hubby even tried it on his new IBM lap top and the same thing happened. My 6 year old son is heartbroken.

I loved the game. It was so much fun taking care of the animals. Taking pictures in Camera Mode was fun. The interactions the animal gave were so real. It isn't a surprise that it already won awards. The graphics also blown me away. Using unlimited budget in free form was also a great option. Zoo Guest Mode also gave a feeling of what a guest would feel when you're in the zoo. One disappointing thing was the lack of animals. This game is not too easy and not too hard. First download the Zoo Tycoon 2 trial at Microsoft. This is a great game for Zoo Tycoon fans.
ABSOLUTE BEST!!

Buyers beware! Look at the back of the box when you buy it to see it's requirments! This game actually cost me $1,500! To get the game and to find out it didn't work on my 5-year old computer and then having my daughter to beg to get this top-of-the-line computer from dell, but I didn't regret it at all! My daughter just started to play it the minute the computer was hooked up and she said that the computer was worth every penny. Let me tell you one good thing about the game and one bad thing about the game. Well the good thing is that it seems so realistic when you play it, you actually feel like you are running your own zoo! This is because the males fight over the females and it is not violent at all! All you see and hear is growling and pawing and then sometimes you will end up with a skelotin! And when you put like a tiger and an antalope in the same exibit they will stalk it instead of just running after it! And the bad thing is the video cards, you have to but an expensive video card to just get it to work! I had to wait 5 days with my kid always asking me when the new computer was going to come in! Well, overall, this game was a great game, but eqaul to the origanal.

Yes the graphics of Zoo Tycoon2 are awesome but my Daughter and I still like the 1st one the best. We have the expansion kit with the Dinasaur Digs and Marine Mania so we like the animal choices.
