Game slows down on all computers, unplayable. I have a 2.8 P4, radeon ATI 9800, 512M ram but I get 2 Frames per second in the games night time mode. Check the roller coaster tycoon website forums on Ataris own webpage. No patch, how can they release a product that is so buggy. Last time I buy a game without doing my research. Can I give this 0 stars?
Couldn't load RCT3

My husband and son spent almost 24 hours trying to load and run RCT3. We let our son open it as an early Christmas gift, and what a let down! We have 3 computers, all of which are Windows XP, and NONE of them could run this! My husband and I are both software engineers, and are very used to computer and software loading issues, so you can imagine our dismay with the fact that we couldn't get this to run on ANY of our computers! We finally just let him download RCT2 from the internet ($15 on top of the $20 we paid for the CD-ROM Gold package on Amazon) and RCT2 is running fine.
I vote for downloading the software vs. buying the CD-ROM package. I'll never make this mistake again!

I have enjoyed tycoon games in the past and bought this one because it was one of the top rated games. I have only played it for about an hour or 2. It's presentation turned me off. Game appears tedious to get in to, link graphics look like a cheap kids game. Maybe I'll get to it someday, but I suggest that you try it before you buy it.

This game is very fun, it has a coaster cam, new rides, good 3D, but it won't work on even some of the most powerfull home Computers, wait until atari has fixed the game glitches , until then , make sure thatyou check the requirements on the box so that you know if it will work on your computer.
*Update* If Your Computer will not play the game try increasing your paging file. In this game I made the Top Thrill Dragster, and lots of other real coasters. This is a fun game.
Slow frame rate severely detracts from game experience.

I really enjoyed the roller coaster tycoons of versions past, however this one really is a let down. While the addition of 3D graphics is a nice touch, the game runs INCREADBLY SLOW! I have a decent system (2.5Ghz with Ati x800 and 1 Gig Ram) well over the recommended specs, and after building a small roller coaster or two the game simply grinds to a halt running at about 2 frames per second. It's almost excruciating to play which is really to bad because the game over all would be pretty fun. I like the addition of the ability to `ride the rides' but it is ultimately useless you are on the only ride in the whole park. The frame rate is so bad that it makes the whole experience un-enjoyable.
Part of what I enjoyed about past versions was building huge coasters and parks, but that simply can't be done in this version with out a CRAY supercomputer / video card. Even after patching the game I only got a slight boost in frame rate. The second my park grew an additional 100 or so people or "peeps" I was right back to snail speed where I was.
Overall the idea was great, but the execution is very poor. The slow play makes it impossible to recommend this game.
Not a good game unless you have an XP

My kids say they like the original better. This one has a remarkably steep learning curve, even for those who are good at the original RC Tycoon. It also taxes your PC's resources.
better than the last two

the last two games have sort of depressing music but they were good. this game is good also. i like that you can ride the rides now. i play it from time to time. the first couple of senerios are eazy but some are hard. i haven't beat them all.

I have not bought the Gold Compilation, but I have bought all three games separately, and I can safely say that this is a great deal. Overall, I think I've spent about $90 on the game and two expansion packs, so this is much better.
The game itself is great. It makes the leap into the 3D realm flawlessly without sacrificing the gameplay that made the original RCT's so fantastic! All the quirky things from the original RCT3 have been fixed in these expansion packs, and the ability to make water parks and animal exhibits is great. Of course, don't get me started on the HUUUUUUGE assortment of flat rides and roller coasters. They are enough to keep you busy for hours.
Unfortunately, the game is a huge strain on your computer system. I have a 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 128 GeForce FX Video Card, and still, the park gets really choppy as it grows to include more rides and people. I wouldn't buy this game unless your computer's specs are similar to mine. I previously played it on a 256MB computer with the same video card, and it was awful. So yes, the game does use up a lot of memory, but if you are lucky enough to have an above average computer, then you should have no problem running the game. Enjoy!
Endless fun until your PC runs out of memory

RCT3 (I own the single disc versions) is one of the most addictive simulations especially for theme park afficionados.
Riding your own rides finally gave the game what it lacked until version 2. So, they combined all the best ideas from all those theme park simulations and put it in a (too?) big pot where you can help yourself - until your PC crashes. The game ist mostly stable but do not use too much particle effects like smoke, fog, fire and especially keep a low profile on these cool laser shows. When the laser shows run, your PC runs down (mine is a 3.2 GHz Intel machine with 2 GB RAM and a 256 MB ATI Radeon X600 graphics board, usually enough power for most of the games, but RCT3 obviously requires more to maintain the fun.)
It's logical, though: the more details you add to a park, the more fun it is, but the faster you will find yourself with a frame-by-frame stop-and-go disaster and possibly at last with a frozen screen. Best advice: regularly save your game even if it takes some time.
Anyway: I cannot remember having played more hours with a single game other than RCT3. And I am no longer a kid, but going on 50. It is BIG FUN!
