This game has it all. Great graphics, excellent story plot, cool weapons, and awesome monsters. There is so much creativity in this game. Unique game. Original idea. Beats all other games to a bloody pulp. Period!

Resident Evil mixed with Max Payne - thats how I would describe the game... just times 10. It takes alot to keep me interested on a single player game, I only go for the popular titles like GTA or Mafia, games with huge environments and alot of freedom. I can honestly say The Suffering is one of the best single player games I have experienced, it is creepy as hell. The gameplay and environment is great but I think what really stands out is the sound. Play this late night with headphones on for a creepy thrill.

AT FIRST I WASN'T EXPECTING A LOT FROM THIS GAME .BUT I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH I GOT INTO IT.THE STORY IS PRETTY GOOD, BUT ALL THE COOL MONSTERS ,WEAPONS, AND TURNING INTO A BEAST TO SLAY YOUR ENEMIES ARE AWESOME !YOU CAN BE A MR.JOE NICE AND HELP PEOPLE OUT,OR TAKE THEM OUT WITH A WEAPON OF YOUR CHOICE.THERE ARE LOTS OF AMMO AND HEALTH PICKUPS AROUND, BUT YOU CAN RUN OUT OF AMMO IF YOU THINK YOUR AL PACINO IN ''SCARFACE'' .PLUS THE ARCHIVE PAGES TELL A BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT THE ISLAND ,WHERE THE PRISON YOU ARE IN IS ON.YOU CAN PLAY IN EITHER FIRST PERSON OR THIRD PERSON MODE WHEN YOU USE YOUR GUNS ,BUT USE THE TARGETING SYSTEM TO CONSERVE YOUR AMMO.BY NOT SHOOTING LIKE A MADMAN,YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SAVE SOME AMMO FOR THE BIGGER AND BADDER DUDES IN THIS GAME.I AM NOT EVEN GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THEM , EXPERIENCE THEM FOR YOURSELF..AT YOUR OWN RISK OF COURSE. I rented this title from my local video store and got in all 3 endings and 2 more times through for fun before having to return it. Even knowing that there are no real surprises left for me I would still add this one to my collection.

This is one of the best PS2 games I have ever played. The story line is great! The controls are positioned great! The weapons are great! The monsters are great! The entire game was GREAT!!!! This is a must buy. I have played it 3 times on Normal, Hard, and Impossible. VERY FUN!

I can't really say anything more than what has been already said in the other reviews here. This game has it all. My friends and I would play this on a Friday night, like 1 A.M, turn off all the lights, I'd put on the surround sound and play. DEFINETLY worth the buy! Good lighting (a must in horror games), sounds, visions pop up from nowhere, gore, random voices and maturity. If you can BUY THIS GAME!

Like was said before...this is a great game....but play it on surround sound loud with the light off, you definitly would get scared or jump at least 15 times.

I played and beat this game. I can actually say that it is perhaps the best game of the survival-horror genre since the Resident Evil franchise. The story has a lot of good characters that really stick out. This is a good game and a great way for MidWay to step into different pastures than just releasing Mortal Kombat games.

The game is not that bad but it is long and sorta boring. All u do is fight stupid critters. The game is more of a learning game of the german p.o.w.s. if u are looking for a blood guts game this is it the cuts seens are exquisite, u must play this game in the dark if u have the coneges

The suffering is by the best game Ive played in 2004 so far.
When I first read bout it I just knew I needed to have it.
When sliped the cd in my ps2 I kina had doublt BUT I WAS WRONG
This game is awsome. The story is great and the game is just flat out fun! There is so much gore in this game that the main character is covered in it! The language is too much that its ridiculus but that didnt bother me.
The graphics are simply awsome. The best gun is the dual revolvers. This game truly makes Resident evil zero and silent hill 3 look like a bunch of kiddie games made from disney........Ok maybe not but This game rocks! The fun factor is very HIGH and you wont be dissapointed. Trust me.
Midway Did a great job making this game.......This game should definily beat True crimes for action game of the year.
