Note: I haven't finished all seven levels yet, I'm on 5. Each level you play as a differenct character: Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, and Apu are the characters you can play as. Sometimes other Simpsons characters (Chief Wiggum, Cletus and Comic Book Store Guy for example), will ride with you and comment on what's going on.
Control is not difficult unless you're speeding... but then that's the whole point of the game. For some of the people complaining, I'd like to see you keep control of your car on those small streets going 70, 80, even 90+ simulated miles per hour.
The heart of the game is driving around and completing missions, but there's all sorts of side adventures. Each level (so far) has had 20 "wasp" cameras... flying cameras that resemble the insect, and can be destroyed (you get coinage for destroying things). Destroy Buzz cola boxes, lamp posts, mailboxes... they all give you some reward. Use the money to buy other vehicles, new outfits for the characters, and pay those speeding fines when the cops finally catch up with you. There's also playing cards to find, and gags to discover.
It's a bit repetitive... some number of missions each level, each dealing with driving real fast and avoiding crashing. There's bonus races on each level which will gain you an extra car if you complete them all, and there's a chance to bet on a race to make some extra money (good for gameplay... not really worth the betting, though).
The key to winning is finding the available shortcuts, and in doing so you find some really fun jumps... which you'll need to get on some roofs in order to collect all the items for some levels.
What helps is that there is more than one map that you drive on... there's a "city" level which includes such famous landmarks as the Matlock expressway, and there's the "residential" level that includes the houses, school, retirement castle, Burn's mansion, and the nuclear power plant (complete with special stone cutter's entrance).
I know a lot of people complained it's boring and repetitive, but I think we can thank a generation of short attention spans for that. I'm having a lot of fun playing at length, and so is my son (7 years old, despite the teen rating on the game - I let him watch the show, so this wasn't a problem for me), and I've been playing games for almost thirty years now (yes, I'm old).

This game is great. You get too play as five people. You can play as Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Apu. There are a lot of vehicles in this game including a Broomstick, a rocket type thing, monster truck, a boat, and like 15 vehicles. There are different costumes for all five people, even the donut head homer for the one.
The object of the game is to beat every mission and destroy the fifty wasp machines placed throughout the games levels. It is like a grand theft auto game just without shooting. You can run into people though with a car and kick them around.
There are races that you have to beat to get special vehicles. there are six collector cards on each level. Every time you get all six on a level you unlock a special mini game that you can play with three of your friends.
The graphics are pretty good. The only bad thing about it is that when you run into too much stuff or poeple your wanted bar goes up and when it reaches the red part the cops come after you and right when a cop runs into you you get fined 50 coins. There is no way to get away from the cops when your in a car if they catch up to you.
Overall this game is great and I give it a 9/10. It is great for any Simpsons fan.

This is a great game! It's even better than The Simpsons: Road Rage, with a cooler plot and almost no time restraints! Here's the plot in a nutshell: a big number of giant wasp cameras have invaded Springfield, and the Simpsons family (plus Apu!) are investigating. You also have to do a bunch of missions too, like buying cola and ice cream from the Kwik-E-Mart, racing Skinner to the school to deliver Lisa's science project, collecting Flander's 'lost' things, and that's just with Homer in level 1. Also, you collect coins that you find on the ground, and get when you destroy objects or set off a gag. You see, a gag is something that you can activate in gameplay, like in level 1 with
Homer, one of the gags is a swingset that falls apart when you activate it. Also, there are cards scattered around each level that contain information about different Simpsons episodes. ... you can take as much time as you want between missions to go around Springfield in your own car, a different car you buy with enough coins, or someone else's car you can just get into! ...But, with Hit and Run, the worse violence is hitting some people, with no blood, and they don't die. So go out and get this game, Simpsons fan or not!

The Simpsons is by far the best show ever created and now, to be able to play a Simpsons video game by driving around in Springfield is awesome. If your a simpsons fan youll have fun exploring the town. This game had great potential, they could have made it more interactive and added more missions. Hopefully they will release another Simpsons game. I would suggest waiting to see if they come out with another game, if not definetely buy this.

This is the greatest simpson game ever made. This game kinda like any other game with missions, but I enjoy the other freedom you have in this game. Instead of just doing missions you can roam the huge world of the simpsons. Springfeild is very vast and large. The creators did a good job with graphics, but there are some cons. Play as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge, Apu, then Bart agian, then Homer agian. These 7 levels have 8 missions each. Do car races, buy cars from Old Gill, cause total mayhem with firetrucks, Otto's school bus, and many more cars from the halarios simpson episodes.
I will start with the pros. The best part of this game is its relationship with the show. The levels look good, the characters are normal looking, and the real simpson character vioces even got put in. Earn or buy cars from Gill, Barney, Homer, Otto, and even Proffeser Frink. This is not that realistic, but collect cions and collecter cards to buy vehicles and get all collecter cards in one level and you get a bonus racing level(up to 4 people can play it).
Pros: Funny sidelines such as "damnit I dropped my cabob!"
Very realistic enviroment
Huge area to explore
Good character graphics
Go around Springfeild in giant cars hitting people!!!
Next are the cons. There are'nt many, but the few cons are pretty bad. When you hit or kick(punch) a person, he will keep scurming on the ground like a fish. Then all the suddend he just gets on his knees and stands up. Next is the bonus race level. It might seem like it makes the game a whole new thing, but it's not that great. Next is the hit and run meter. As you go through levels you need a lot of money to buy cloths and cars. And in some levels you have to have expinsive cars. The hit and run meter is very annoying. This meter goes up to fast and when you get hit or hit something or someone, there is not much of a chance you'll escape. The best way to loose cops is to finsh the mission. The cops will disappear. But if you get caught... thats 50 cions down the drain. This can be a huge pain, especially when in missions. In most missions you have to race agianst time, but it's to hard to aviod people and win without crashing.
Cons: Not very good graphics when you hit people
Bonus race level is'nt that good
Extremely annoying hit and run meter
Even though these cons make a big difference in the game, you'll get use to it and eventually laugh at it(exept the hit and run meter). I rented this game and will soon buy it. If you want to buy it I suggest you play it at freinds or rent it first. Some of you non-simpson fans might not like it. Anyway, this game is a classic and I'm buying it so don't get mad if theres no more copies.

There's nothing more appealing than to actually walk and rampage around Springfield in a video game. And mixing Grand Theft Auto 3 with The Simpsons is probably the best idea ever for the Simpsons franchise. This game caught my eye as soon as it was announced, and in many ways I anticipated it all the way until it hit the store shelves. When I shoved it in my PS2 machine, I had a blast for the first hour or so. Really funny and it has all the gags and jokes from the show (I'm a big fan of the cartoon). Basically there's everything you need from the show that's in the game. But as the missions went on, I quickly got BORED. To be precise, there's only 4 TYPES OF MISSIONS. 1) drive around and pick up items, 2) drive after a car to, 3)either stalk it or destroy it and 4) race. They are very repetitive at best, and unlike GTA3, you cannot drive/walk around all of Springfield (like into their different districts), but the characters you play with are assigned to specfic districts: Homer in the suburbs, Bart in the city, etc. So, you can't travel freely from the Simpsons house into the city or such, in other words. You can't choose a character in random order when you start up the game either. And ALL missions are car based, so no walking like in GTA3.
So basically, I had expected a little more (if not a lot more). The engine is a GTA3 clone, which is great. Music and sountrack is superb (very cartoonish and distinctive for every character). But there is no feel of reward for causing mayhem and running away from police Chief Wiggum (the chase usually ends after 20 seconds). You can enter into interior environments, like the Simpsons' home, Moe's Tavern and other places, but you can only walk around in ONE room. There's really nothing to do in the game, but either play the repetitive missions or explore a rather empty and lifeless Springfield. You feel more restricted a whole lot in many ways. Of course, there are plenty of Bonuses to get after playing through the game, but the Bonus game is just a little racing track. That's it.
After having the game for 24 hours, I returned it and got a refund because it was too boring for me. Which is too bad, because this is the best Simpsons game ever. Real fun as long as it lasts. In all, The Simpsons fans (more dedicated than me) might owe themselves to have a look at this game and it is in many ways a family friendly game, but really don't expect much out of "The Simpsons: Hit & Run". It has such a great title!

I have tried the other Simpson's games ou there. This beats them all. While still based in the same driving theme as Road Rage, this game has way more improvements. You can actually get out of the car and explore Springfield on foot. Even the building interiors. Yes it is a lot like GTA, but I think it's way better because it has way more humor. Over ten thousand pieces of new dialogue was written especially for this game. In fact, the hardest part of the game is trying to finish the missions while chuckling over the jokes. And there are lots of neat features. Feeling a little destructive? Well go for it. Destroy property and run people over. You will eventually get nabbed by Chief Wiggums, but it only costs you a few coins in a very generous money environment. And there are parts of the game where your whole mission revolves around being a civil disobediant, so have fun. This Simpsons game way surpasses all the others.

I love the SIMPSONS and this is the first Simpsons game that I have played, so I can't compare it to the rest. Maybe in comparison to the earlier games it is a great game, but as a stand alone game, it is not very good.
Yes, all the characters are here in a GTA like format. You can interact with the locations you know from the TV show. All the voices are the same. There are cut scenes with all the characters.
BUT, the game itself is not much fun. A lot of the game is driving missions and the actual driving is incredibly frustrating. If you make one mistake, hit something once, you are out of the race pretty much and fail the mission.
Plus, many of the missions are multi part and even if you fail on the last part of a three part mission you have to go and replay it from the beginning. Spend twenty minutes just getting back to that third part. The good thing is that after 8 or so attempts, it lets you skip it. I hate to say how many times I have skipped missions.
Not to mention on all the second, third, and fourth attempts you have to listen to the same dialogue over and over and over again. That really gets annoying. I played a lot of it with the sound off.
I've had the game for almost a year now and can honestly say I haven't picked it up all that often to play it. I played it for a while after it came out, then just put it aside, for months at a time, before picking it up again. It really isn't all that much fun.
I don't understand the negative reviews of this game!

First of all, let me state that I played and finished the PC version of the game using a gamepad and force-feedback steering wheel. Perhaps the Playstation version is not as good. This is a great game and some of the comments from other reviewers just plain do not make sense.
1) There is great variety for a driving game. With most driving games you are doing basically the same thing over and over. This game has 77 different missions (including bonus missions and races) with many of them having multiple parts. Each mission is different. Sure, most involve racing, smashing an opponents vehicle, chasing or escaping, etc; but isn't that better than driving around in endless circles? If you are fan of NASCAR, you should appreciate the variety.
2) The game is not just driving. There are all kinds of extra things that you can do that are not necessary to complete the game. However, Simpsons fans will want to explore all the nooks and crannies of each level. For example, there are seven "special" cards hidden on each of the seven levels. Almost all require you to perform a "Platform" type manuever to obtain and some are quite difficult. When you collect all 49 cards, a special bonus is unlocked. Also, there are numerous hidden gags and tons of dialogue recorded by the Simpson's cast.
3) The storyline is hilarious and pertinent to today's TV reality show fad. I won't give it away here but you must get to the end of level 5 before all is explained. Those complaining about a lack of story obviously didn't get that far. For those lacking in driving skills, misssions can be skipped to keep the story flowing. Yes, some of them are quite challenging but I was able to complete them all without skipping any.
4) This game is addicting. Several of my friends (some of them female) who are not video game fans, could not stop playing this game.
5) Unlike NASCAR, this game has nearly 50 different vehicles that you can drive; each with it's own handling characterstics...everything from Otto's schoolbus, Marge's Canyonero, Bart's Honor Roller, Apu's Trans Am, Snake's Lil' Bandit, Krusty's Limo, etc. etc. Yes, Bart and Lisa both drive cars in this game...Folks, it is a VIDEO GAME based on a CARTOON...it is not meant to be realistic!
6) The graphics are awesome. There are three different parts of Springfield that you can explore with many little extras thrown in for fun. Everything that you can think of is there, Krustylu Studios, The Duff Brewery, Moe's Tavern, Power Plant, Frinks Laboratory, etc. etc. You can walk around and explore the whole town. There are also many secret shortcuts that you can find to help you win races. All the main characters are present...Mr. Burns, Smithers, Prof Frink, Barney, Nelson, Milhouse, Cletus, Willy, Prin Skinner, Patty and Selma, Apu, and many more. All of them have funny things to say.
I don't know what more anyone could want from a Simpson's game. My only small complaint is that it is hard to perform some of the trickier maneuvers with a gamepad. One thing that I found that helps is to use the Mouselook option in the Options and then use the mouse to rotate your view so that you can make some of the jumps a little easier.
Good game, but hard as heck.

I've always liked the Simpsons because of their humor, adventures, and cute diologue, even though they can be crude at times. It's no wonder why I would play this game. I rented it from a video store, and played for 5 days straight.
There were many levels I had a hard time passing. I had to repeat some levels 5 to 6 times before finally letting me skip it. Level 7, the one where you play as Grandpa to get some nuclear waste from the power plant and deliver it to the aliens is near impossible. I must have played that level 25 times and never passed it.
Overall, the game has cute graphics and fun levels. The scenery is cool too. However, some levels are extremely hard to pass. Good luck.
