What happened? After waiting for 11 months since the release of "The Return of the King", I am left feeling cheated, disappointed, ripped off, bamboozled, tricked, deceived, duped, hoodwinked, swindled and defrauded. This game plainly sucks!!!
EA has brought shame to The Lord of the Rings Gaming Franchise. What kind of bleeping blank is this? There is no real interaction with the characters. The game is played in a "stop and go" method. You confront your enemy, then you choose what your plan of attack is, then you execute your attack. The enemy stays put while you hit him once then you run back to where you started and now it is the enemies turn to hit you. You don't even get to play as the main characters just some no name character. I make none of this up. What happened to the combinations, blocking, banes, gambits, rush attacks, death charges from the other great games?
I challenge anyone to play EA's Two Towers and Return of the King then immediately play this bleeping game and call The Third Age a great game.
EA, you idiots really know how to screw a good thing up. Good one bro', go smoke another one.

I never noticed that this was an RPG game. I thought It would be cool like the other LOTR games, WRONG! I hate RPG games because you just select an attack from your menu then attack your enemy then the enemy attacks you and you do this over and over again until your opponent dies! This game is so repetitive! Buy another LOTR game instead, or buy Battlefront 2 coming NOV. 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am both a SW and LOTR fan, but this game is very dissapointing!

A Poorly Made Game

This game stinks to high heaven for many reasons. First of all people don't want to play a game like this one, because its like playing checkers. You have this guy attack this other guy and its boring just to look at that. The only impressive thing on this game is the graphics. To make this game more impressive is to make all the characters independent and let them have a little more freedom fighting. To make a well made game you have to think about what the player wants instead of how you make it. For instance, the player wants a game that has more exploration from a battle, ways to get a character stronger, and use out of this world imagination. To all who are reading this review I suggest you never buy this game.

All the Lord of the ring games are stupid but this one was really bad. The grafics are ok and the controls take a while to get used to and by the time you do it gets boring. Dont buy anthing that has Lord of The Ring on it because in a couple years all of it is going to be worth nothing.

This game is so bad. It doesn't have good graphics, I'm surprised. The whole idea is plain stupid. If you're going to make a game make sure people actually think it's fun! I've gotta say, the first day I got it they helped you along the way... but then they let you explore and the people would stop you anytime and talk about random things, even if you were in battle! Also when you are in different places orcs would come out of nowhere. You'd be looking in at a rock or something and then all of a sudden an orc pops right out. It's doesn't have very good battle arrangements either. People this game is not worth spending your money for, honest! If you don't believe me than you are making an awful mistake. Choose what's right.....choose not to buy the game.
They just can't get it..........

Ok, let me start by telling you that I am a HUGE LOTR fan. I love the books, and I love the movies. That makes me a rare individual, because most of my friends either hate one or love the other. Anyway, you'd think I would dig the video games. Well, kinda.
I picked up LOTR: ROTK when I got my new slimline PS2, and it's cool, with all the cutscenes from the movies and the hack and slash stuff going on. Still, I'm thinking....if I wanted to watch scenes from the movies, I'd just put the frickin DVDS on and kick it. So, it's something I play from time to time.
Well, I got LOTR: TTA for Christmas, and read the back....and lo and behold, it's an RPG where you play new characters that traipse around Middle Earth at the same time the main characters are getting the job done. Well, it went to the bottom of my pile below Prince of Persia 2, Need for Speed Underground 2, and San Andreas. It's unopened, and worth 49.99, and frankly, it's going back to the store to be put toward Metal Gear 3 or Burnout 3: Takedown.
Why, you might ask? Well, I went to a friends house and saw it being played and heard the lowdown on it. It's not even really an RPG, playlength is ridiculously short, and for rewards, you get to watch little mini-interviews with the stars about the movie. I think EA Sports really missed the boat with this one. I mean, do a LOTR game and make it like Prince of Persia or something. I saw a group of guys playing this game, and they looked freakin bored. They had more fun playing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban than this turkey.
It's a shame, really. LOTR rules. This game was just thrown together to cash in.
It's a B Rate Movie NOT a Game

In reading the other reviews I realized the people that rated this game high were people obsessed with Lord of the Rings, not gamers. I know it says Lord of the Rings but who are the characters based on? These are not people from the movie. I guess even the actors didn't want to have their faces associated with this flop.
If you liked the PS2 "Return of the King" then don't buy this game. If you like playing games, then don't buy this game. If you like excitement and competition, then don't buy this game. If you have a fear of boredom,... This "game" is obviously designed for people with no hand eye cordination or people who found the last game to be too challenging. I originally thought it was written for a four or five year old except it has a Teen rating, So they must be going after the nursing home market. Which makes sense because the game can played equally as well without a game controller and you can just sit back and watch the B Rate acting.
It's not a game and if you want to watch a computer animated movie go see the "North Pole Express" and if you still want to see what everyone is complaining about wait a month and you should be able to buy this game for under 20 bucks in the bargain basket. Someone needs to get fired at EA Games, How could Return of the King been so good and the Third Age been so pathetic?
It'll be awhile before I trust EA Games again, [...]

I mean, c'mon! Did these guys ever play EA's LOTR: Return of the King? I guess the RPG aspect was lost on me, but I've played boardgames that were more intense than this tedious, repitative snore. I really missed the cooperative, actually collaborative, play of Return of the King. That two-player spirit is completely lost here as you await your turn to select an attack from a menu (exciting!) and sit helplessly as enemies attack you.
Ultimately, this just a game designer's wet dream: you watch as they [...]graphically. Sure it looks great, but don't expect to be able to do anything: after each stage of endless lame battles, you unlock a "scene," so you may admire the designers' prowess some more, as if the pointless cut scenes you endured during the "battles" weren't enough.
Bah--thank God we rented.
D & D, not an extension of the previous games

This game is not what you might think. It is well done. The graphics are fine. The characters are appropriate. The problem is that the packaging, timing, and makers (EA) implies that it is another swordfighting battle game like "The Two Towers" and "Return of the King". It isn't. It is like Dungeons and Dragons. You have hit points, moves lists, and stuff like that. It is turn based, making it not much more that a dice-based strategy game with good visuals.
