This game is pretty good compared to the other lord of the rings games. The graphics are REALLY good, and the kick but action is fun. Over all this is a great game. GET THIS GAME (or the two towers)

Final Fantasy came to Middle Earth

That is just a way to put it. This RPG is a Final Fantasy game played with Tolkien carachters and story. Maybe you are not going to use any of the main carachters of the book, but you will have some encounters with them, and you are going to help them or receive help at certain moments. The game has excellent graphics, especially the environment and background. You decide how to use the experience you are earning in order to build the carachteristics of your carachters. You start playing Berethor, Captain of the Citadel of Minas Tirith you under orders is looking for Boromir. Soon, he ism joined by Idril, an elf woman with great powers under the orders of Lady Galadriel. Carachters you will use include a Dunedain, a Rohirrim warrior and a Rohirrim women warrior. Also, a dwarf is tossed to the mix. Fight orcs, trolls, Nazgul, etc. This game is great for Tolkien fans, reliving most of the issues of Middle Earth. But, if you are not a Tolkien, even better. The story is great, graphics are amazing, and action is awesome. Very easy to learn, especially for RPG players. The carachters have the same carachteristics as in Final Fantasy, minus the Eons. They even have the perfect points attack. You cannot become disappointed with this game.

Very Dissapointed about this game.

I scurried to the store as soon as I had the money to purchase this game. I absolutely adored The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I am also a huge EA game fan.

However, once I put the game in my Playstation 2, I immediately realized that this game had nothing to do with individual combat.

Each fight is set up for you, per say. You are not the one actually making the moves on the opponent. You are telling the game which moves to make.

While roleplaying is a nice thing--I was severely upset at the layout of this game. Had I known that I would be unable to play individual characters--who were doing more than running down a path, waiting for a fight, and then clicking on a series of icons to *tell* the computer what move to make (rather than actually doing the fighting yourself), I would have waited until the game was available for pre-owned purchase at about ten bucks.

Fifty-Two dollars that I will never see again--and a severe dissapointment on this end.

DO YOU GET THE FEELING YOU'VE BEEN CHEATED?

What happened? After waiting for 11 months since the release of "The Return of the King", I am left feeling cheated, disappointed, ripped off, bamboozled, tricked, deceived, duped, hoodwinked, swindled and defrauded. This game plainly sucks!!!

EA has brought shame to The Lord of the Rings Gaming Franchise. What kind of bleeping blank is this? There is no real interaction with the characters. The game is played in a "stop and go" method. You confront your enemy, then you choose what your plan of attack is, then you execute your attack. The enemy stays put while you hit him once then you run back to where you started and now it is the enemies turn to hit you. You don't even get to play as the main characters just some no name character. I make none of this up. What happened to the combinations, blocking, banes, gambits, rush attacks, death charges from the other great games?

I challenge anyone to play EA's Two Towers and Return of the King then immediately play this bleeping game and call The Third Age a great game.

EA, you idiots really know how to screw a good thing up. Good one bro', go smoke another one.

A Few Cons

Pros:
-Co-op mode
-so many places
-Moving in and out of fellowships path
-meeting secondary characters
Cons:
-Not able to make your own characters
-Repetitive

So you know. I would just try it! Me and my mother put on what our characters put on in the game when we play. We are such losers. LOL. :)

I'm the Candyman and I know what a good game is, now i will be generous and give this game 2 stars now i would suggest u make this game like the other lotr games but since you can't cause you already made it make another one and make it better. I'm not sayin the graphics stunk no the graphics were the bomb the action was OKAY but make it like the other lotr games they ROCKED!!!

You people need to blame yourselves not EA

First of all for the dumb people up above who are blaming EA for their gaming differences from the previous game maybe you should read up on the games before you buy them and you would have a clear idea of what type of game you are getting also return of the king was the last game that EA produced which you have complete control of your single character this says something as return of the king is the last of the series which means probably the last game they can make of this type
Anyways for all you rpg lovers that don't mind the classic turn based fights this is great especially because its lord of the rings but not anything you could have read or seen in the books or movie but you do intersect with real story parts from the lord of the rings keeping the gameplay true to lord of the rings

Well What Did You Expect?

Lord of the Rings: Third Age is not a hack-n-slash game like Two Towers and Return of the King. It is an RPG game with unique gameplay, turn-based combat, and great graphics along with some good sound and music (score). EA did not intend to make Third Age a very fun and easy game like Two Towers and Return of the King, which, don't get me wrong, are two wonderful games. They made this game more for the RPG gamer and for those who are new to the RPG gaming world. So don't expect Third Age to be a game like EA's other two Lord of the Rings game titles. If you don't like RPG games then get Two Towers and Return of the King instead.
In my opinion this is an awsome game and I highly addicted to it. That is because I really love Lord of the Rings.

This is not an action Game, but a cool RPG

If your are looking for an action game like the previous two games of the franchise by EA, The Two Towers and Raturn of the King, then don't buy this one.
This is a Very Good RPG, with good graphics, cutscenes, story and you can unlock featurettes from the trilogy narrated by "Gandalf", Ian McKellen. You fight foes and bosses from the film. And you learn new skills, you can customize the armor and weapons of your characters, and the character image changes not like other RPGS that you upgrade armors, and helms, etc. But the carachter always looks the same.
This game is addictive, and if you have played any kind of RPG's in the past is very easy to pick up the gameplay. The Characters are from a sort of parallel world to the one of the trilogy, but still you visit and fight the same bad guys from the movies. You can also play as the bad guys once you have finished a chapter. You can also travel from one chapter to another at tha save points, which are plenty, avoiding in that way having to play over and over a world when you are killed in a difficult, specially boss fight.
As in other RPGs you can do normal or special exclusivelearned attacks for each character, magical attacks or defenses, use your turns to use items to power up or restore health, use leadership to improve attack or defense, you can even skip your turn opr change your character to the 4th party member who is not actively fighting.
You can get items in treasure chests or as rewards for winnning fights.
I wrote in another review I would never play RPGs again, but this one is worth it, even if it's long, reason why I don't like RPGs, otherwise these are great games technichally and its game play which is more of strategic fighting than smashing buttons in certain patterns.
