This is the buggiest game I've ever purchased, and it does not stand up to EA Games shining (but rapidly fading) history. For example: I've been stuck on a rooftop early in the game covering some guy name Klaus while he picks the lock on a door. Meanwhile, Nazis are coming out of the woodwork. After about the 10th try, he finally opens the door and we go to the bottom of the stairs where . . . nothing happens. The game is stuck. I cannot walk past him, and he just stands there. I go back outside and nothing happens for several minutes. Eventually the Nazis show back up and I run out of ammo. This makes no sense because we supposedly on a covert mission, and we should be running away once through the door.
In addition, the graphics engine is severely showing its age, and overall the gameplay, AI, etc. is way behind.
Disappointing Sequel to MOHAA

Allied Assault was one of the best games I have ever played. Spearhead was too short and added nothing new. I got pumped up for Breakthrough, I thought EA would try better after Spearhead. Breakthrough while fun, is really hard. You cannot pick up HARDLY ANY ammunition from dead soldiers. Right now I'm on the last mission, Monte Battaglia. All there is is endless waves of Germans, and you are low on health and ammunition throughout the whole thing. I thought of uninstalling it. It is also not worth the thrity dollars or so. Wait until Call of Duty comes out.
BOTTOM LINE: Could have been a descent game, but it is nothing new. Shame on EA.

As a point of reference, I enjoyed MOHAA, and to a lesser degree, Spearhead. Breakthrough suffers the same problems many 3rd installments do, it copies from the previous two and believes more is better. While Spearhead added some interesting new missions to the MOHAA universe, Breakthrough essentially copies them, with some changes, and throws in more enemies and fewer health and ammo recharges. While I understand that these particular campaigns were especially desperate for the Allies, its just frustrating gameplay. There was a point in the game, during a mission similar to the Sniper-town of Spearhead, albeit fewer snipers, were I was forced to kill snipers with a handgun because I had run out of ammo. I'm not wasteful with ammo either, good accuracy, short bursts. I had to quit and restart the level with more pistol whip-killing just to save ammo for later. Wish I'd known before I wasted time playing it "normally". There are several missions that end with the now over-played forced adreneline of having to defend one spot while swarms of the enemy fire at with virtually no help. Can't move, can't get ammo or you'll fail the mission. Its just poorly designed game play and I've stopped playing out of frustration. So while I may have experienced the desperation (obviously in a minor way) that these real-life missions may have engendered, its not really that fun this time around.
I can't remember how the other two were, but you can rarely pick up ammo/weapens from dead enemy troops in Breakthrough. I have to emphasize rarely, so if you do get this game, learn how to shoot accurately to the head.
Also, on a technical note, there are a fair amount of bugs especially in the enemy troops. There was point were several of them stood frozen, wouldn't die or move. The engine is really beginning to act its age graphically, with AI sorely needing an overhaul in general.
If you're a huge fan of the series, wait until its under $20, maybe its worth it then.

I got this game just a couple of days ago, and I have to say I love it. I really enjoyed MOHAA, as did most gamers, so I assumed (rightly so) that they wouldn't change much for this game. If you've played the regular game, there are really only a few small differences.
First of all, there are new weapons. You can use Italian weapons in this game, as well as 'possess' AA guns, artillery cannons, even mortar cannons. Pretty sweet really. Also, I noticed that in this game not all the enemies drop weapons or ammo. In fact, MOST of them don't. This can make for some really hairy situations where you need to conserve your ammo. Nothing sucks worse than running through a battle with nothing but your Colt sidearm as a weapon! Very challenging.
One more difference I noticed, was that the developers seemed to try and bring new themes to the levels this time. Some of it is traditional: blow up X number pieces of equipment, or steal X documents. But some levels are very unique. In one level, you must repel a tank attack with mortar cannons, while in another level you run through a bombed out city and use the enemy's artillery to blow up German tanks. Totally sweet.
Graphically it is, of course, the same. The only significant difference is some desert battles in the beginning, where sand blows around and limits your vision to an extreme degree. Simple but effective.
I cannot recommend this expansion enough. The developers have done exactly what the box says: taken an incredible game, added some weapons and new levels, and not screwed up a system that works extremely well. Way to go EA!
Somewhat fun, but shockingly dissappointing.

Many people weren't expecting much from this new expansion pack, especially after Spearhead. But not this badly. The MoH franchise has always been loved and cherished by many FPS Gamers. Breakthrough just didn't pick up where Spearhead had failed.
Pros:
Sound - Luscious and wonderul, it leaves most games (Max Payne, Call of Duty, etc..) in the dust for this part.
More Nazis and MoHAA - If you liked any previous MOHAA games, you'll definitely find yourself with more Nazis to MG and more objectives to complete.
Cons:
Graphics - They aren't to bad, but not too good looking either. I think 2015 should of tweaked it a bit more to make it look more realistic.
Gameplay - Breakthrough seriously needs more thought and re-working. The A.I. is horrible (Germans point at your tank with a bazooka and then realize they have forgotten to reload it) Glitches are also very noticeable and are seen constantly as well. (A Nazis is shot and leans over an invisble railing) The physics are as bad as they have always been. Enemies are shot and they're dead bodies just seem to dissappear into a wall or they go through a pole and many other problems.
Multiplayer: The multiplayer is extremely laggy and doesn't deliver much fun. The liberation mode isn't really all that it's cracked up to be as well.
Hopes:
Hopefully, a patch will become available and resolve these problems and the new Pacific Assault game will make up for the last two MoH titles.

This game has its moments, but most of the time its more Rambo-style kill everything that moves action. Also, there is very little ammo to be picked up. The game throws a LOT of enemies at you, and several times I've run out of ammo. There may be a pile of corpses at your feet, but you can't get their ammo or weapons. Very frustrating. I am wondering if this is a bug or intentional. At one point I found a cheat code on the net and gave myself ammo that way. The gameplay and graphics are ok if you have enough ammo to survive. There's nothing here however that you can't get out of CALL OF DUTY or the other Allied Assault games. The ammo problem takes away at least one star for me. It literally makes it impossible to play on certain levels.

As a computer gamer of 30 years (you read that right), I found this to be the most frustrating piece of crappy software gaming I've ever played. If you enjoy playing one scene over and over and over and OVER until you finally figure out that you have to first do thing 1 before you do thing 2 (and it doesn't have to be something logical), then this is for you. It's one thing to be challenging, but this game takes it over the top. Ridiculous.
Spend your money on Call of Duty - EXCELLENT!
Another worthy expansion!

I had read on Gamespot that this game was more of the same and that you should spend your time and money elsewhere. To a point I agree with them. You do some of the same things as you did in the other games like stealing papers to get by guards and having to ride in a vehicle and shoot the targets and hope you have any health left. But I like all of these games and the familiarity keeps me wanting more. The single player game is longer than Spearhead and you get 9 more multi player maps and a new mode, liberation, for on-line play. The only problem is that most of the new maps were too laggy (I found that only about 3 of these maps were not laggy, and I have a cable modem) though they were all done very nicely. Liberation was pretty cool in the fact that when you were killed, you were put in jail and had to hope that your teammates could get you out of jail, which made for some tremendous battles. Except for some of the things I mentioned earlier, there wasn't much else I didn't like about the game. Any true fan will enjoy the new maps, weapons, and modes this game has to offer. A worthy eaxpansion.

Well just like the rest of the MOHAA games, I can really get into the games. Breakthrough doesn't out do the original MOHAA by any means, but its certainally more enjoyable than Spearhead. I also think Spearhead was a lot tougher than Breakthrough.
The first mission meets the standards of the original, however each of the last two missions are significantly shorter. In fact the last mission if I remember correctly was only one or two levels.
One factor that made it tougher than the rest of the games in the series is that you can't pick up a killed enemies ammo. I don't know if this is a glitch or not but in the first mission you can pick up the ammo, but only the first mission. In the rest of the missions, when I killed an enemy soldier, their weapon disappeared. This made the game extremely difficult in the Anzio and Monte Cassino when you really need full magazines. So ammo conservation and better marksmanship are required for this part.
My favorite part of the game was the additions made that were new. In a game where you are primarily by yourself, there were several times when I found myself fighting within a small squad, which they did a good job with. I also like the addition of the Italian troops. They introduced several new italian weapons ranging from side arms to machine guns.
Overall though, if you like FPS games, especially MOH games. This is a good game to have. I'm already counting down until Pacific Assault comes outs.
Flawed but consistent

If you liked other MOHAA editions, then this is fairly true to the original format. Being so, it provides little in terms of new dynamics. Some new weapons, and the setting in the African/Italian Theatre add some appeal. Overall, you get what you expect. There are some very frustrating attributes to this expansion: ammo can be scarce, seemingly where it is needed most. A particular part in the game where you're fending off the enemy while your comrade unlocks a door for the longest 30s known to the universe with low ammo provided many hours of cursing, to the point where I just loaded to an earlier point, conserving ammo in anticipation of this part of the game. Thus gameplay can be stilted by unimaginative challenges. As usual, the game AI is poor, compensated by amazing sharpshooting skills of every enemy soldier. Stealth is almost useless in this games as with other MOHAA installments. But, if it wasn't fun on some level, I wouldn't have finished it. Recommend picking up cheap or used if you can. Not worth full price of admission.
