The way I see the Tony Hawk series is like this: from THPS to THUG 2, Neversoft was running a marathon, and they were doing really well, too. Then, in 2005, Neversoft tripped by making American Wasteland, which wasn't necessarily a bad game, it just wasn't nearly as good as the others. Now, the eighth installment in the series has come, and I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. At E3, they said that Tony Hawk's Project 8 would be returning to the roots of the Tony Hawk series, and I interpreted that to mean that it would be like a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5. I bought the game and played it. The graphics weren't as good as I expected, but they didn't suck. Overall, Neversoft could have done a bit more polish on this game, and it's definitely not worth $600, but it's a solid entry in the series, and anybody who has been a TH fan since the beginning should give it a whirl.

Ok, first off I have TH3, TH:Underground, TH:AWL all for the PS2. I was impressed by American Waste Lands amount of content and levels. Project 8 doesn't have as much content (No level building or real character creation), but what it serves out it well worth it. They revamped the system and that takes developement time. The open-end game play on the PS3 is sweet. I played the game on the PS2, but was not impressed and didn't think I'd get it due to the lack of content. I purchased a PS3 and was limited to option so I purchased Project 8 and to be able to skate from the residential district to the skatepark to the school and then to the city busting out tricks all along the way is sweet and provides a new experience to Skateboarding on consoles. You can just go on forever. After this I can't wait to see what comes next. If for the Xbox360 or the PS3 the game is well worth it.
LOOKS GOOD, WAS FUN FOR AWHILE.... BUT...

I love playstation 3 but i have noticed that they have slipped with their titles. This is sony's fault but i think that there was too much of a rush to get this out and with that it suffers. First it is very choppy, it isn't that bad if you don't have anything to compare it too (xbox 360). They don't seems to have the physics down with this considering there are some goals that you can't complete but can with the 360 version such as gaining momentum to complete a grind gap (Stats were at full max on ps3 and couldn't finish goal, 360 stats were only 1/2 max and completed no problem. 360 has the music player which you can lay your own track of music over this which isn't a game problem but i enjoy more of my own music then what they have so you won't get that for the playstation 3. Overall its a good game but for this format it felt really rushed and it shows. If you have the chance to thourghly test out both you will see what i mean. It does use the controller very well and is very easy to perform tricks. The six axis feature is nice but very difficult to use so after a couple of minutes i turned it off. This game was okay but only deserves two stars because it was not finished in my opinion.
Not good on PS3

This game doesn't look like it was designed for the PS3(more like n64), the graphics are terrible compared to other PS3 titles. The game is ok, just like other Tony Hawk skateboarding games, but they should have spent a lot more time on the PS3 version adding graphics. Also creating a player is a form of torture. Everyone want a skater to look like them or maybe look like someone else, the looks are so limited and more of an advertisement for a few skate and clothing companies than anything else. Don't pay full price for this one, better to play the older versions of the game. I am starting to wonder when video games will be free from sponsors instead of paying $60 per game. Why doesn't some big company just put out a games and fill it with updating advertising content and sell if for half the crazy price of current games. Just wondering...
I hope youre ready to skate exiting new places!!! ohh wait...

I haven't played Tony Hawk games since THUG, so I really wanted to try the new one out to see what new stuff has come about. I'm not very happy with most of anything in this game; I know it's not bad, it's just skating around doing a couple of tricks and getting points. but the missions seem dumb, and repetitive, they still have this whole thing where you can walk, which seems pointless to me because it doesn't do anything good except but climb stuff, if you get on your feet skating, its because you're gonna run to get some speed before you do your line. I like the fact that the levels are connected, and the new nail the trick missions are fun. Besides that, the game doesn't have the fun it used to, neversoft is more concerned on you chaining 60 repetitive tricks into a combo that actually making an enjoyable skating game, I do enjoy chaining some combos, but not 5 minutes of the same crappy tricks just to get the multipliers. Also, besides the pointless walking, they have some features which are new to me that seem pointless as well, like the spinning around on the mailbox or pole, & grind stalls. To me, they should try to make this more like THPS 3 or 4 those were really fun, no matter how much I played them, I never got sick of them. I hope they do figure out that they should concentrate more on good missions, less combo chaining, and really fun stages instead of revamps of the old stages, like the school & fun house, when there are so many other new locations and countries to skate on!!! But no, were stuck in suburbia and the old factory, again!!! I really do hope they get their heads together and the next THPS is really good, but I'm not going to find out, because this is the last time I spend any money on any Tony Hawk game.
Fun to a point

The tony Hawks that im famaliar with were the tony hawks of the old I loved the original I could not believe how much time i would play it and still want more. Then the 2nd came out which added all to the fun after tony hawk 2 i didnt pick up a single title till project 8. I remember the fun of the originals and yes those were very different times were talkin about the original playstation which at the time these games came out was the hottest thing around but now we our certainly in the NEXT GEN and thus comes my review for project 8 I like other dished out the money for the ps3 awaiting to be blown anway by graphics and game experience at the time i bought project 8 there wasnt to much that appeased to me so i said hey I liked the old tony hawks why not try this one well alot has changed since the originals but only for the better the game is real big and the new Slo mo effect which might not be all that new but new to me really adds to the fun but overall its alot to accomplish and learning those tricks takes dedicatioon I loved the game but ultimately gave up since I bought other ps3 games and figured it would take to much time that I didnt not want to waste on skating but I would say if you really enjoy these games you have to check this out because like a reviewer said before I did skating in this big immersive world is crazy and lots of fun ! but in the end if your dedicated to skating and really love these games get project 8 but if not then just rent it and have some fun with it.

Overall the game is great. The graphics are so crisp and the flow and look of the characters are on point. Like other THPS games, of course they have certain things they want you to do that are or may seem impossible but after practice and doing the same little mission over and over again you'll eventually pass it. So far the best of them all in the THPS line.
great skatboard game
