If you love Mahjong, you will love this game. This is not your typical Shanghai game. Choose from two different versions of the game. The Greatest Moments game allows you to choose several different tile lay outs. There are other fun games too. The Great Wall is a giant wall with tiles that fall as you make your matches. This allows the game to be ever changing. I've purchased this game as a gift for many of my friends and they absolutly love it!

I love this game and was trying to get a copy for my new XP system. Just a warning for others who have XP - it will not run even using the Program Compatibility Wizard. I donated it to the library. I am so disappointed.

At first glance, the Shanghai suite looks like a simple time-waster, but for the adult who plays these challenging games on a regular basis the realization awaits that there is much more going on here than you think. Sure, the games can serve as simple distractions, but if taken seriously they exercise your brain. The games teach the player to think and plan ahead, strategize, prioritize, create contingencies, to anticipate alternative courses of action, and to recognize patterns and structures.
Another benefit is that the basic simplicity of the games lend themselves very well to play by children. My 5- and 3-year-olds find these games endlessly challenging and enjoyable, especially given the suite's capability to alter the tile sets' appearance as well as layouts. They enjoy the games immensely, never realizing how they are learning.
A simple but endlessly entertaining games pack. I recommend it highly.

I have been playing this game for a couple of years now and paid $30 for it when it was relatively new on the market, so for $10 this is a great buy. I love this game and have been known to stay glued to the computer for an hour or more. It is very addictive! The basic game is simple and easy to learn. There are many variations of tile layouts and tile sets. I think the new version of this game has even more features, tile sets, etc. I plan on purchasing the new version, but if you're not sure you like computer mah-jong, try this one at this great price first. You won't be disappointed.

I've been playing SHGM since 1995 but, unfortunately, it lost functionality when I installed all the latest MS O/S patches. It worked fine before the Blaster worm but the subsequent patches have created some kind of glitch that neither Activision nor Microsoft cares to address.

I've played this marvelous game on my Mac ever since it first came out. It's a hassle as I have to put the CD in for one set of games, but I do it. That says quite a lot about how much I love it, as I wouldn't do it for any other game!! I'd love to get an updated version for Win XP and my Mac OS 10, but so far I have not been able to find it anywhere. This game keeps me challenged, and I have to use all my self-discipline to turn it off. It is a change of pace from all the other Mahjong games that offer 100's of beautiful tile sets and multitudes of layouts. This does that, but gives some variety in the types of games played. I've never come across another like it.

This is the best of the Mahjong CDs available that I have seen. The sound is superb and the graphics are astonishingly unique. The variations are endless. Within the two games on this CD there are so many varieties and combinations available that it tweaks the mind - stimulates it - with its various categories of tile sets. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Shanghai II has been one of my wife's favorite games for many years. She was not happy when it would not run under Windows XP. I saw from the other reviews this is a common problem, so set about trying to fix it. I'm pleased to report that the fix is simple.
Shanghai II runs under Windows XP just fine, Windows 2000 as well. What it requires is that the game reside and run off a *DOS* formatted drive! So you must either pop in a second, smaller drive and format it for DOS, or do as I did - simply partition off a 300MB portion of my HD system and format that with extended 32-bit DOS. Copy the game to that drive/partition and it will run with no problem.
Edit: When you create the shortcut to run the game, do not set any emulation, but do set it to run in a separate memory space.
