The kids love this one!

It's still too early to tell if this game will help instill an interest in Chess or not, but my daughters love playing this game.

Software Not Working

I bought this software for my son, based on the reviews I read on Amazon.com. The software is not working. I have notified Terzio, two times and no response. I just wasted my money on a game that does nothing!

Good Chess Training for Kids

My 11 year old boy loves this chess training software. It is has taught him chess how to move and the tactics of every chess piece, which has made him a much better chess player. The only drawback is that you cannot stop and go back to where you left off, but you have to start all over again, which was very frustrating to my boy. I hope they fixed this problem in the subsequent additions of this software.

Not for our grandchild

This is a very well designed teaching tool for young people -- but it did not attract our grandchild, now 7 and he's here at the moment as I write this. He loves "hacking" the computers at our house, at home and at school (which is a problem as tech services needs t obe frequently called in to undo his experimenting) -- but he is not attracted to the discipline of rules -- certainly not the rules of chess -- or checkers for that matter. He's an experimenter -- gears, wheels, icons, screen savers, but not so much formal games however cleverly introduced or devised. And, it is still too advanced for his 4 year old sister. My advice: Try it -- it may just be the timing for each child.

Great teaching tool! I have a K, 2nd and 4th grader learning to play with it. I would only change two things: Make it where they can't "take back" their move when they get to the final level and make it where two people can play once they get to the final level. It has taught them well...but they still can't beat me! :-)

Never got to use this game ... Amazon Product description said game was compatible with Windows 2000, but when I received the game; the box does not list "2000" among the compatable operating Systems. On the plus side, Amazon accepted responsibility and provided prepaid return shipping.

Not as good as "Dinosaur Chess"!!!

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 1

This is an excellent piece of chess software for kids. However, it is not as good as Dinosaur Chess, particularly for younger kids. Many of the mini-games and activities are not really chess related, there is a cool, but long narrative to navigate through.

Overall, the software does not teach chess in a pedagogical fashion suitable for younger children. For instance, the first chess concept learned is "Opposition". I played ~50 games of casual chess over 20 years without any knowledge of the "Opposition". This is a somewhat advanced end-game concept that is taught with a sumo-wrestlers mini-game. My five year old could not relate the somo-wrestler mini-game with the battle of kings during the end-game. One would think that learning how to move the simpler pieces (like rooks and bishops) would the first thing by beginner software.

Fritz and Chesster targets children ages 8-13, while Dinosaur Chess targets children ages 4-7. Get Dinosaur Chess for younger childre.

Didn't work!

Just as another reviewer said, I ended up wasting my money on a game that did nothing. Several installs and calls later, still no better. It was a birthday gift for my daughter and she couldn't wait to play it.

The game installs properly and seems to work but got stuck after the intro movie and wouldn't do anything else. (Note the kids are running a 1G Celeron, on Windows 98. I'm considering upgrading the OS and trying again.)

A waste of time and money

I agree with reviewer Mr. Dietz. I was eager for my child to learn chess and we bought this new on Amazon for $24.99. Put it in and loaded it in. This game is so confusing and there are no instructions at all. No help menu either. We wasted at least 2 hours on it before I ejected it and apologized to her. There is nothing here to learn chess from.
