Loved it!

Great story, love-able characters, it's a good (and fast) battle system. It's so much fun training all the characters near the end!
You also have good use of the 108 stars unlike the other Suikoden.

With the invention of the PS2 Konami had the chance to capture a whole new fanbase, they failed to do so.....

Suikoden 1 and 2 are great classics, but before the PS2 they had a small fanbase. With the arrival of the PS2, Konami had the chance to make a great masterpiece that would create a whole new fanbase and capture die hard RPG fans. They failed, they did the exact opposite by killing this series with Suikoden 3 and 4. However, unlike the 4th one and Tactics, this game didn't totally suck. The sight system is a unique idea, and it worked pretty well, with the exception of the pathetic Thomas. His whole story was just a complete waste of time. Luckily, you do not have to play his chapter. I think (though I could be wrong, its been a long time) that in order to unlock Luc's chapter (which is really necessary if you want to experience all this game has to offer) you have to play out Thomas chapters and recruit characters. This could be wrong though, I just can't remember. This game lacked the great war feeling that the first two produced, and which the fifth one did such a great job capturing. Lets face it, Suikoden 1 and 2 made this series stories about WAR. In Suikoden 3, there really is no war in the game, and the war battles are an absolute joke. Its more like a side story, there is an evil faction which is attempting to destroy the world, for their own bizarre reasons. The 3 main characters are played out well, the sight system makes a boring game a little bit more interesting. I really don't see any replay value in this game, once you have all the 108 stars and play Luc's chapter, there is nothing to draw you back to it, even years later. As far as forgettable characters, most of them are. There are a few memorable ones, primarily the three main characters, and Yuber (who is explored a lot more than he was in the first two) but otherwise, I can't really remember many characters in this game. I really didn't like the whole Luc's story, it was nice to see a different Luc, but it shouldn't have been the focus of the game. The fact that Harmonia is explored a little bit (not much, but we do find out some info on this mysterious nation) is nice, but Harmonia really needs to be the focus of a Suikoden game. Well, from this you can expect an average RPG for the PS2, nothing great here. Just because it is called Suikoden, don't expect it to be like number 1, 2 and 5.

this game has a well balance between rpg and adventure, theres not too many puzzles involved but trying to find 108 other characters is a bit of a challange but it pays off giving you new and stronger characters to youre group and after you beat the game you can transfer some of the characters to suikoden 4 being released this year, this game has a trinity system which gives you 3 different characters views while they are after the same person but meet in the end to choose there destiny, this game is long enough with 3 chapters each for the three of them and when you think its done there a few more chapters rising the replay value, this game has excellent graphics, good music which suits each place, good play value and is a very good sequel to the other 2 games, i give it 5 out of 5 cuz it was just that good.

Suikoden 3 is one of the best games I have ever played. With a great story and lots of great characters it is really addicting. It's fairly long with a view point from 3 main characters; one being a mercenary, a knight, and a boy from a village. The battle system is one of the best I have ever seen with up to 6 characters in a battle; you can do strong combo attacks depending on who is in you party. The magic in this game is great it is so in-depth with the magic you can create your characters how you want them using the different elemental runes. With 100+ characters this game can keep you going for a long time. The game has 3 different battle types; normal- You have six people and you face the enemy, Duels- 1 on 1 fight with who ever challenges you, and my favorite Strategy battles- You and your enemy have a certain number of units and you move them across the field....however in these battle you can't control the actions of your people. Well I rate this game a 4 out of 5 but honestly I think anyone of any age could get into
this game it is one of the best I have ever played. The 3 main viewpoints are fun to play and you can also unlock 3 others. One being a little boy named Thomas who becomes the owner of a castle which becomes your main base later in the game. If you unlock all 108 characters before the end of the game you can unlock the viewpoint of the main enemy Luc and his followers. The last viewpoint is of a dog. You can't do much but it's still fun nevertheless. Well that's all I have to say about this great game, anyone who can should really try to play this game.

Good game but the plot is a little slow in the beginning.

Overall, this is a fairly good RPG. The plot is a little slow but picks up in the later chapters. Not quite as good as the previous 2 suikoden games. I dont really recommned this game if you played the previous 2 games since it is a little repetitive but I highly recommned this game if you havnt played the other 2 games.

Definitely different than the typical "Final Fantasy" type RPG, I would say perhaps even better. The non-linear story is great because you can play the game several times, choosing your character's chapters in different sequences. There's no doubt that being able to choose from over 100 characters is beyond fun and adds so much variety. I still had trouble with the battle system, where you choose all of your charc's actions at once. There are virtually no bosses in this game, just optional bosses that you go out of your way to find in order to get money and treasures. The war-battles are surprisingly easy, often last minute reinforcements come in and help you out - so don't get too scared. Money is extremely difficult to come across in this game too, you often end up doing a lot of extra battling to save up for equipment. Also, the world map is very expansive - it can take a long bothersome time to get from one side to the other. There are plenty of side-quests for extra fun too. Another great game from an underrated series and company.

Suikoden III is a very good RPG series and i would highly reccomend it to a RPG fan. It has a great story and there are tons of side quests. You can have up to a choice of 108 people to be in your party of 6 if you search around enough. You take control of four different people these four people all have different timelines which end up connecting with each other towards the end. A very cool way of going about the story. A good 30-50+ hours depending on amount of side quests done and the time you spend leveling up.

Only problems with the game is that the battle system can become slightly tiresome but is nothing that should warrant you not getting the game.

One of the best rpgs ive played in the past few years. Great story, memorable characters and a load of sidequests. Visuals and music are quite good, too. The combat system is nice, but not very deep and a bit too easy i think. Anyway , this Game is sooo cool. Its quite rare and relatively expensive, but its worth every Penny.

best game I've ever played

Suikoden III is simply the best RPG I’ve ever played. You get to follow an interesting story with an enormous number of characters in a flawless gameplay environment. The world is very large, with several detailed cities. The play is only vaguely linear, with a really wide range of activities at any given time, though never so many that I found myself reaching for pen and paper. The enemies generally make sense and come in a wide variety of forms with excellent AI, and the battle system is also excellent. To top it all off, you play as three different characters in overlapping timelines and (mostly) get to choose the order of play! There are 108 major characters in all (plus tons of more minor ones), and a variety of gameplay settings to keep things interesting. You get to pick and choose your party members (from almost the whole lot of 108 if you play long enough), which is especially cool nearer the end of the game. There are a huge number of sub-games, and one of the best is watching your choice of characters perfom plays (usually hilariously badly). The underlying plot is also excellent and helps to drive the play. I hadn't played the previous Suikoden games, but the few times it's helpful, the game seamlessly fills in the background, so I didn't feel I was missing anything at all.

There are very few drawbacks to this game. The main one (these days) is that it’s apparently getting hard to find a copy of the game. Most of the gameplay is challenging without being impossible, but the major battle gameplay (fighting with military units, which happens rarely) is so easy with a minimal level of strategy that it’s really a waste of time. The non-linear nature of the game sometimes lets you face enemies who are far too powerful, but it’s usually pretty obvious when you’ve strayed too far off track. At the end of the story, after fighting a hideously challenging battle, you go back and play as the enemy. I can only speak for myself, but I never want to play as the bad guy in an RPG after investing scores of hours playing as the good guys.

I couldn’t recommend any game more highly, and would love to know what moron decided to stop or limit production of Suikoden III, making it so hard to find. I won't spoil anything, but I recommend playing as Chris first. You'll see.

Many console RPG's get by with just a few characters, six perhaps. Suikoden throws a whopping 108 at you. Not only that, but they are generally all interesting as well. Probably one of the best made games of the year, and possibly one of the finest ever produced.

Too bad you can't get a new copy of this anymore. I'd suggest getting it used.
