A good Sci-Fi adventure, and a good deal!

I did a double-take at the price listed for this game, and for what you get its quite worth the value.

Dark Side of the moon is a futuristic game that takes place on the moon of Luna-Crysta, a moon that is the most mineral-rich single source known to man. You are a man who has inheretied his uncle's claim on the moon after his mysterious murder and have decided to fly there to seek your fortune.

What follows is a tale that will show you the truth behind your uncle's murder, the truth about yourself, and a great plot to keep the natives of Luna-Crysta under the thumb of the great mining corporation.

The graphics are really impressive, and as an added bonus you can stop anywhere in the game and look around at things instead of just jumping from point to point and being limited to what's on your screen.

It's an epic storyline that rivals the plot of a lot of sci-fi movies you see with a decient cast of live actors and a well written script.

My only big complaint is that not all of the actors are top notch. In the opening sequence it shoes a man supposedly running for his life and its plainly obvious that he's just jogging in place in front of a blue screen. Also some of the dialogue of the main character (the one your perspective is from) is a bit campy.

Overall though, this is a nice sci-fi mystery game. There's no profanity, no sexual undertones, and although there is a certain level of gore they try to keep it to a minimum. It's worth buying, playing through, and then picking it up again a few weeks later to try it again.

Interesting, but no support!

I enjoyed this game thoroughly -- until I got to a serious bug about a third of the way through, when I suddenly discovered that SouthPeak is no longer supporting this game. No patches, no saved games, and no help whatsoever. Extremely frustrating, since I had played just enough to get really hooked, and then whammo! Cut off.

So if you buy it, be aware that you're on your own if you have a problem.

Not for 'High End' computers

One would think, with such a low price, Dark Side of the Moon would be an excellent find for gamers on a budget. After all, 6 CDs, a great storyline, and a slick 360 degree interface - where could it go wrong?
6 years ago, it couldn't - and was at the top of many a gamer's must play list. Fast forward to the present - is it still as good a game as it was then? Yes and no. Yes, the story is still topnotch, and the game is still fun to play -- if you can get it to work. Therein lies the problem :(. Note the key word is "if". Dark Side of the Moon was designed to work on a low speed pentium (133 mhz at most) and a 4x CD-ROM; both of which are obsolete by today's ever changing standards. That said, Southpeak (publisher of DSOM) has never addressed this issue - nearly any pc that was built after 1995 won't be able to play it, due to an error in the game's programming. The fact is, if you are trying to play DSOM on any system faster than the game's requirements, 9 out of 10 times, the menu, dialog boxes, and save game option will not work correctly. The menu and save options are no big deal... But being unable to see the dialog boxes more or less destroys any chance of playing the game, as they are used to navigate the interactive movie parts, and DSOM is very much an interactive movie.
However -- should you happen to have a dinosaur of a pc (i.e. 486 w/ 16 mb of RAM), DSOM runs great. So... If you have a really old computer and like a well produced and fun to play interactive movie, by all means - buy it (and add an extra star to my review score for the great story). Everyone else - avoid DSOM like the plague (and subtract an extra star from my review score)unless you happen to like spending your hard earned money on a new set of 6 coasters.

You'll be disappointed

Save your money. Don't buy this game. I was not able to get the dialogue conversation to work (heard the conversation but could not answer people because the words wouldn't appear to click on). I couldn't save the game because the tab to click on wouldn't work so I had to shut my computer down (the control, shift, delete wouldn't do it either). I called tech support and they said the game was discontinued by Southpeak and they could not help me. I called Southpeak and they apologized, but they said it's been discontinued for years and there was nothing they could do for me. They claim my computer is too fast for the game to work since the game is so old. Isn't that wonderful!!! So, please don't bother getting this game even though it's so cheap -- that's why it's so cheap.

great game- BEWARE- no support!!!

OK, it's a great idea, and for those people who prefer interacting with characters over jsut shooting them, you'll probably enjoy the game. It's probably best if you're on an older Pentium running Win95 or 98.

Unfortunately, jsut as I got into the game- it hung! I'm running Windows Me which shouldn't be a problem.

Southpeak no longer supports the game, and there don't seem to be any patches available on the web, so I'm so stuck.

If you want to take the risk, you'll probably enjoy the game.

This game is way better than I expected. You play from 6 discs, so if you don't like to change discs, don't get it. The graphics and audio and videos are fantastic. Everything you work with is viewed on one screen. Extremely user friendly. Great scenery and colors. Just started this, but really like it already.

Doesn't work on XP!

Lots of bugs, can't get past the first screen! The notes say if your cd-rom is too fast it can cause problems (no kidding!), but the fix doesn't work.

that's right DSOM won't work on your computer
I tried both the DVD version and the normal one on my PIII, nothing at all.
I even bought an old portable PC just to play this game and Ripper (another faulty game) and it won't work either!!!
I also installed W98 besides XP and it won't work!!
I guess you need a particular combination of processor/graphics to play, in sum don't waste your money like I did!

I would have given this game 4 stars if I didn't have to switch cd's so much and also if the screen was full. You are given a small window so that you can click your inventory on the side and your pda which holds documents you have saved throughout the game. The space could have been utilized better so that the user could have a larger game screen. If you are a sci-fi or science fan, you will like this game. It's very interactive, but be aware some clickable spots are only clickable by items from your inventory. I like the plot, it's very personable, as the player you feel a link to your late uncle. There is also a little bit of fun flirting going on. The pace is pretty mellow, not too much high stress. Difficulty level is low.
