Frustrating and froze my computer

Not only are all the reviews correct, this game froze my very capable computer. I had to shut it down and eventually uninstall this game to avoid future freeze ups...scared me to death. (my computer is new and is for my work). My daughter (9) was also reduced to a fit of tears....I had to force her to get away from the game because of her frustration. I wish I had seen these reviews before Christmas. I am writing a letter to Mattel.

This game starts out great. The graphics are great for a young children's game. But my daughter (6yrs) got stock half way through. There is a mini game you must complete to rescue a princess (you must rescue all 11 to finish the game). You are Twyla the cat, and must run arround a gazebo collecting flowers; however, the game never states how many flowers you must collect, if you touch an obstacle you loose a flower, the only tool you have to manuver over or under is the space bar (which the computer sometimes chooses the wrong motion causing an additional flower to be lost), and it is not easy or totally revealed exactly how to catch the flowers. My daughter tried for about a half hour and ended up crying with 0 flowers. I have tried twice, 30 min each time, and the most flowers I ever accumulated was 6. I lost them eventually and was never sure if I was any closer to finishing. I am not sure if this is the case on other platforms, but on the PC there is definitely a bug. I have tried to contact Activition, game maker, but have received no response. I would save your child the heartache and buy a different game.
Worst Barbie game yet

I purchased this game for my 7-year old. We have every Barbie PC game ever created. Unlike the earlier games created by Vivendi, which had lush backgrounds, life-like characters, bright colors, and a storyline with some imagination, Twelve Dancing Princesses was apparently developed by a hack company called Blue Monkey Studios in order to save Mattel money. The game takes no thought, has no imagination in its renderings, and is just about the worst (and most incredibly boring) PC game I've ever seen (we probably own around 300 different games). If you feel compelled to buy this game, buy it used for a penny somewhere. Anything more is wasted money.
A total waste of money

I bought this game for my 4-year old daughter, who has become very adept at other age appropriate video games, and have seen her reduced to tears and hitting the computer in frustration. As others have pointed out, the Twyla flower catch game is extremely poorly designed, and I haven't been able to overcome this "task" in almost 2 hours of trying myself. I plan to throw this disc away rather than subject my daughter to the feelings of anger, frustration and disappointment that she's found with this game. I can't believe that the makers of Barbie, a former icon who's popularity is rapidly declining, would further damage their reputation and standing by putting out this mess.
don't bother

My daughter received this along with the Barbie Princess and Pauper game for her fifth birthday. The other game she is able to do all by herself and completed the game all by herself. This one I tried playing with her and we both end up angry and frustrated with it. Since I have trouble with it, I can't imagine what the programmers were thinking when they thought this would be a good game for a small child. I would give it zero stars if I could.

Buy this product if:
1) You want to be called upon constantly by your child to help because they get frustrated, disoriented, or just plain can't do it.
2) You want to stop a game and start over because Barbie gets caught in a loop and keeps falling from the sky over and over and over.....
3) You want to have bonding and empathy with your child by feeling the exact same feelings they do (Anger, frustration, exasperation) when you both try the "Kitty Catch" game.
4) You want to play a game once, and leave it in pristine condition - never to play it again.
5) You want to spend hours of your precious time trying to get a cat to catch and retain flowers.
6) You want to attempt to play a game through to completion, but also want to have feelings of defeat. (So close, and yet so far.)
7) You want your child to spend hours just moving a figure (Barbie) around a bunch of different paths using the arrow and space bar keys with no problem solving games or puzzles to do, and virtually no creativity involved on behalf of the child.
8) You want your child to learn new feelings, such as: defeat, exasperation, frustration, and self degradation. (Sprinkled with occasional tears).
9) You miss the temper tamtrum toddler years, and wish to revisit them by having your 6 year old act like that again.
10) You have money to waste.
Don't Buy this Product If:
1) You want your child to be able to complete a game in one sitting with no help from you in a resonable length of time.
2) You want a game that challenges your child's mind.
3) you want a game where your child can explore and expand their creativity.
4) You actually want your child to feel happy and satisfied and proud when they are done playing.
5) You want your child to actully learn something, (other than "the new feelings" described in #8 above that is.)
If you decide not to buy, may I suggust the following Barbie games to buy instead: 1)Princess and the Pauper: On the long side, but has both creative and mind thinking games in it that a 6 yr old can do. 2) Swan Lake: Lots of creativity, and some thinking games. Great game. 3)Barbie Horse Adventures-Mystery Ride: My daughter especially likes being able to choose Barbie's clothes and type of horse. Has some thinking games. Fun game. 4) Rapunzel: A short game more on the creative side than the thinking side. 5) Mermaid Barbie: An easy short game which has musical creativity in it.
Have fun with these instead!
Fun, but one hard task.

I'm six years old. It is pretty fun, except for one part which is Twyla jumping over these flowers. You have to get eight flowers to find a gem. My dad usually gets it. I especially like the little ones which are Lacy, Genessa, and Kathleen. They have a part that none of the others have.
I like to play it over again. Derek, the boy that helps Barbie, doesn't do that much stuff. I especially like when you find the elixir, because you get to open a fun path of crystals.
I love the fountain path best.
Here is the computer I play the game on:
Windows XP, 1.99Ghz processor, 384MB RAM
Twyla the cat and the flowers was my daughter's only complaint

I cannot stress enough that you read Kaptain Kyle's review of this game. After we read his review it took us only 5 to 10 minutes to beat the "Twyla catching flowers" game. (Thank you, Kaptain Kyle!)
My 7 year old daughter ripped through this game in approx. 5 hours total. Granted, she has played all of the other Barbie games so she has some prior experience with the Barbie format, so it might have been easier for her than other kids who haven't had the prior experience. The second day she had the game she played the game from beginning to end 3 times. She absolutely adores it. I suspect she'll play it quite a few more times before tiring of it.
Good game with the exception of the "Twyla/flowers" hurdle.
not the best, but not as bad as all these reviews

my 5 yo daughter really enjoys this game. it is challenging, but certainly do-able. she quickly got the hang of moving genevieve around. I think the graphics are nice - a lot nicer than I expected after reading these reviews. we have about 4 other barbie computer games and this one ranks up there with them, though it is not the best. If you want an "easy" game, get rapunzel. that one isn't going to be as challenging, yet it is fun. we had no problems with the installation onto our computer. it loaded right up.
I don't get the whining, this is a good game.

My daughter has played this game. Yes, it is hard, but she quicly picked up the skill to move the avatar through the game and has done a good job getting through the adventures. At 6 I'd want her to have more of a challenge than what some of the other Barbie games present to children. I myself am an online gamer and did not have a problem with the difficulty level of the game. I think it's more that the folks reviewing are somewhat out of touch with what a first-person type game is like.
