To sum them up, this game[...]....
The graphics are outdated, it has lots of bugs and even worse a great deal of inconvenient features (that could have been so much better or already have been better in previous MoO incarnations). Gameplay is very clumsy and its also visually unattractive. Your influence as player is decidedly limited compared to MoO2. You can usually achieve good enough results by just letting the AI handle everything and just clicking the turn button.
Especially if you liked MoO2 a lot you will be sorely disappointed by MoO3 since they didn not improve but reinvent the wheel, and it ended up with a flat tyre, and I want to warn everybody not to waste their money on this like I did. And if you don't know MoO2, get that one instead, its cheaper and most people like it better...

This game is extrememly fun to play. As being one of the people who helped to test this games marketability I have found that many of the features are very impressive.
For example, the raced of humans in this game has the Lycanthropy technology research which allows certain ground troops to transform into werewolves! yeah! Also, You can dig up fossils and use their DNA to create dinosaurs that will attack any person who invades your planets. Besides the excrutiating wait you all must go thru, I must say that this game is well worth the wait. But until it comes out, dream on my friends, dream on.
Poor addition to a genre with potentional, but few successes

There are many 4X/Space-Stratagey fans out there, and many attempts to make games in this genre. But sadly, few are successes. Some are good, but few know about them, such as Pax Imperia: Entiment Domain (one of my favorites). Some are good, and everyone who knows the genre exists knows the game, such as Master of Orion 2. Some are just colasal flops, and usually for many different reasons.
Do I have experience enough to judge a good 4X game? Well, I have played many of the games, but some disagree with my views on them. Here are the ones I have. My all time favorite, Pax Imperia: Entiment Domain; Master of Orion 2, one of my less favorites; Space Empires 4, in the middle of my list; Conquest: Frontier Wars gets second place; Star Wars: Rebelion, had potental, but didn't quite deliver; Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, also had potential, but didn't quite deliver. And that's all I can think of right now.
Anyway, on to Master of Orion 3. The prequel, MoO2 was many people's favorite, and it was good for when it came out (though I prefered Pax Imperia: Entiment Domain), but I wasn't one of it's biggest fans. Now MoO3 is a different story. I didn't actually buy it mind you. I got the full version 60 minute demo, and it was terrible. Although better visually than most, the menus and selection are very poorly done and getting anything done is nearly impossible. I didn't see the battles, but that makes no difference if the main interface is so bad you can't get anything done. There is little helpful information for running your empire.
All-in-all, this game isn't worth the time of day. If you want a 4X game, I reccomend getting Conquest:Frontier Wars, MoO2, or Space Empires 4. I haven't tried Galactic Empires yet, but it looks cool, so that could be a possibility. But this isn't the game that you are looking for. So hit the back button, and move on. If you don't believe me, just read the other reviews on this game.

Moo 2 was such a well done game, when this initally came out my buddies and I were extremely excited. I expected Moo 2 with my playable races better AI perhaps unique tech tree and overall better graphics. I was sadly disappointed, the graphics was the only thing going for this game the rest was a totally and utter failure.
They completely changed the dynamics of the game and ruined everything about it, MOO 2 is one of my all time favorites though after this title Masters of Orion will never have the same aura. The developer truly ruined one of the best strategy games ever made.
Disappointing

Like most MOO fans I started with the original game and when its sequel was introduced, I quickly snapped it up. As you would expect, the interface had changed, but for the better and after a little bit of experimenting, I was conquering another galaxy (most of the time).
For years I awaited MOO3 and when I bought it, I couldn't wait to load it up and start playing. The new features looked so appealing and there was so much potential. And, again, I was prepared to learn a new interface, but then I started to play MOO3 and that's when it hit me -- whoever designed this game didn't understand how to play MOO! The interface has become terribly cumbersome and many functions that should be intuitive have been made, or so it seems, needlessly complex.
After trying to understand this game for two solid weeks I had to admit defeat and the game remains silent. So much potential, but just too much frustration trying to play it.
If you're trying to decide what to do based on these mixed reviews, understand this: even those giving this game higher marks have warned you there's a steep learning curve. Ultimately, it's just not worth the aggravation. You have been warned . . .

I enjoyed Master of Orion and Master of Orion 2. My dislike of MOO 3 is equalled only by my dislike for prune pudding served on ultra bran wafers and topped with an alphalfa derivative syrup. The interface is extremely poor, the graphics were dated when MOO II was new and the enjoyment level doesn't even register. Bottom line don't buy this game. If you really think you want to try it out do a friend a favor and borrow their copy ... and then keep it. Your friend will thank you.

I picked it up after talking to a friend who absolutely loved it and was spending 4-5 hours a night playing. Couldn't be too bad if he was into that much, I thought. Well it wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good either.
The game itself progresses pretty slowly, especially in the beginning as you have to research everything from scratch or trade it from other races. The pace picks up after you begin colonizing a few systems and actually have some ships. Eventually you'll progress to a point where you'll have so many ships and planets that it takes the computer a while to process a turn - I have an Athlon XP 2000+ and it took almost 2 minutes per turn toward the end of some games. Be prepared to invest 10 hours in a full game, if not longer.
The concept of designing your own ships is excellent and very useful. The downside to it is that everytime you develop a new technology you have to redesign your ships and can't apply a simple upgrade to your existing designs. It would save a lot of time if they would incorporate that feature in a patch or update.
The diplomacy end of the game is pretty well done. The character animations are very well rendered. Often times your survival in the game will depend on your diplomatic relations with certain races.
Espionage can come in handy, but I found it to be highly annoying having to deal with enemy spies. But that's part of the game, covert operations are supposed to be annoying.
I played the game for a few weeks before putting it aside. I haven't had the urge to pull it back out yet and hope that a MoO4 might be better.

Completely unworthy of the Master of Orion title as this game is a slap in the face to the previous two games in this series, which both offer a far suprior playing experience. Forget about managing your planets, the new viceroy does that for you. Think you can control how your fleets in battle? Forget about that too. You just tell your ships who to attack now and they do the rest. And for that matter, the graphics on the space battles are 80s era. With this game, expect to just hit the turn button many times while the game for the most part plays itself. A complete waste of time and money.

I would not recommend this game to anyone. The battle sequence is nothing like MOO2. Just beacuse you change the style of space battle does not make it better. Ship customization is difficult. Don't even talk about troop deployment. The planetary AI is not developed enough, don't supply an AI option that you can't customize or at least point it toward the right direction. This might be a good game for a novice. I love these types of games and I was bored while playing this one!
