diablo in FPS

This game is absolutely great.

First of all, the graphics are amazing. Everything looks realistic, and detailed. As are the sounds.

Second, the game play is nothing to be compared to. You don't feel uncomfortable with your mouse and keyboard. Movements are smooth, you don't have to spend half your bullets trying to hit your target. You have a good number of Weapons, bad guys, and levels. The game includes way too many levels, and hours of gaming, in many different countries and places.

Third, it's as realistic as it could be. You hit them in the leg, they start jumping around. you hit them in the head, they fall, you hit them BETWEEN their legs ==> Believe me, ouch :)
And even that depends on the weapon. If you're using a Shotgun, you'll see them falling apart, even their heads can blow up. In the train level, if you hit the Helicopter Pilot with your sniper, you'll see blood all over inside the heli.

The game doesn't contain much secrets if that's what you are expecting. It's more like Blow'em up style. You don't get lost in the scenarios, and that's what makes it fun. And if you don't like that, you can always try the easy way, using a sniper.

So much fun, you can play it a lot of time. I didn't notice any bug while playing.
Watch out for the Violence and Game's Requirements.

Buy the game, it's really worth it.

Only Play If You Have Strong Stomach

Only play this game if you have a strong stomach. This game is very bloody. When you walk into a room of people and start to shot then you will see a large red screen, there will be legs going one way heads another and all of the guts and bones and arms and fountains of blood will be sprouting up ever were. This game is definetly not for kids. I am fourteen and I really enjoy this game, this is the kind of game that you can play when you have a bad day at work and want to take it out. I have done this a time or two and trust me it works. Because it is played on a Quake 3 engine it has awesome graphics. And it is very fun. The weapons are very realistic and sound just like the real thing.

I have a computer in my room and thats is the only reason that I am aloud to have the game. My Mom does not want my siblings to see that. I have played alot of shooter games and this is right up there in the top five. The first being Half-Life.

Not to be played with small children in the room. Or if they are in the house. The sound of the blood gurgling in the dead people mouth. It gives me the hibbi jibbis.

All and all a great game.

The first daringly realistic first-person shooter

I wanted Soldier of Fortune long before it was released, but unfortunately I did not have a computer that could handle the game at the time. Once I upgraded to a PC that was ready to rock and roll, I rushed out to buy Soldier of Fortune Platinum edition. Killing virtual people with all manner of destructive instruments is fun, but the ability to shoot people in specific areas of the body and have them react in realistic ways to such hits was a dream come true for this gamer. Those people who go into conniptions over "violence in video games" just don't get it; they seem to think violence didn't exist in the world before video games were invented. Worst of all, they want to control our minds, allow us to see and think about things that they in all their infinite wisdom consider "safe." Our fragile little minds will just melt if we see a little blood on our screens, according to these censorious do-goodies. The purchase of Soldier of Fortune is not just the purchase of a great first-person shooter; it is an assertion of your right to make your own decisions about things in life.

Shoot a guy in the foot, and watch him dance around on one-leg; take out a leg, and watch him squirm on the floor; deliver a slug in the gut and listen to your victim moan in pain and even beg for mercy; if you're really serious about this thing, go for the head shot and watch it explode like a watermelon. That's the main attraction of SOF. I can perfectly understand why some parents would not want to let their youngsters see such gratuitous yet oh so cool violence, and there is a parental control lock that will take the realism out of the game.

Soldier of Fortune is much more than an excuse to revel in gratuitous violence. The game play is excellent, rivaling that of the Quake series and Half-Life. The fact that you must complete specific missions makes it much more cerebral than many a first-person shooter, yet the game is not so difficult that you find yourself getting hopelessly stuck every five minutes. Sure, there could be more variety among enemy actions, and strategy sometimes equates to little more than just blasting away willy-nilly at the bad guys, but Soldier of Fortune really has everything I want in a first-person shooter. The addition of "friendlies" adds a further little challenge to the game; as much fun as it is to blow away innocent, unarmed civilians, too many collateral damage deaths can make your mission a failure. Your weapons and equipment are the types of things a real soldier of fortune would carry, not some crazy science fiction gizmos. Your missions, while fictitious, are taken out of the pages of current world history, giving you the chance to take out vicious terrorists who represent a clear and present danger to basically the whole world. This is as close to becoming a hero as I will ever get (even though being a soldier of fortune is as much about making money as it is about taking out the world's bad guys).

The Platinum Edition includes all of the extra multiplayer features of the Gold Edition along with five brand new multiplayer maps, a video preview of SOF2, and the complete online version of the official Strategy Guide from Brady Games. The game has a little age on it now, but it's still a heck of a lot of fun to play. I would only ask that you make your own decision to play this very realistic game or, if you are a parent, you make the decision as to whether or not your child or teenager should take on these violent missions; don't let "them" tell you what you and yours can handle.

This game has some of the best graphics that I have seen in a long time. I had played Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition for a long time before this and this is better by far. The only problem I have is the lack of the skirmish or offline multiplayer because of my dial up connection. I only have the Gold edition, but I have heard that there isn't much of a change between the two. One of the best things about this is the controls. Being able to lean around things helps, and even better is being able to zoom in and out wiht the sniper rifle. The gun models are also far superior. I have a 1ghz athlon with a 64meg GeForce 2 and 128megs ram and there is almost no loading time between missions.

Trust me this is what a bullet does to you

My friends older brother owns this game and he lets me play it every now and then. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being an extreme fps player, the graphics were outstanding and the reality of it is also astonishing. For insatance if you shoot someon in the arm with a .50 Desert Eagle they will clutch their arm in pain and there will be a hole in their arm, of course tere are exit wounds. Also if you shoot anyuone with a shotgun something is guarenteed to blow up or blow off with much blood after each shot. The problems are that grenades never work since people are to fast. Not done with the gore. If you shoot someone in the mans weakpoint (which is the troat area between your chest) with a sniper rifle they will fly back with a hole inthem and roll their eyes up as doing so. If you thought that half-life is the goriest think again this goes all out. A must play unless you are squemish. Also what the hell is this guy ulike it looks on the cover which is a well organized delta force personal its more like angry mitia men/ex swat comandos and the funkiest swat Fbi team sent by Ozzy Osborne or something. My final words for this review are buy it.

If you're tired

Gamers, are you tired of games which cost $50, take up 4 gigs on your hard drive and slow down to a slide show even on top end systems? Are you tired of games which take an hour of wandering around and talking to other charactes before the shooting starts? Do you want to have some FUN... bloody, loud, explosive shooter fun, like the kind we had the late 90s with Quake and Doom? Are you tired of stealth and puzzle solving? Well look no further! This game, released in 2000, is a blast, literally. This game is simple, violent and fun. You are John Mullins, a freelance soldier who is given the dirty job of finding 4 nukes stolen from a Siberian base by terrorists. OK that's pretty standard stuff. But SOF delivers action and atmosphere in spades. Right away, you are thrown into a gang war in the NYC subway. I live in NY and the trains aren't so realistic, but this is a game, so what. It's the action which counts. SOF distinguishes itself by the extreme level of violence... shot enemies react depending on where they've been hit. Pop him in the foot, and he'll dance around in paid; hit the head and it explodes like a watermelon. The gameplay is not too cerebral... find the enemies (they're not hard to find) and kill them. You'll have from time to time help from other characters, but most of the time you're on your own. So get you kill on with SOF Platinum... you won't regret it!!!

When Soldier of Fortune (SOF) first appeared, I gave it a complete miss - and it had nothing to do with BC putting a near ban on it. It seemed to me that SOF was a one trick pony: Raven's GHOUL system allowed players to blow off specific limbs of the bad guys. After slaughtering wave after wave of bad guys and reaching a lame climax of the Platinum Edition of SOF, my suspicions were correct. The only thing going for SOF is its flat-out shock value, which grows tiresome and even annoyingIt's content also took on a decidedly darker tone as of September 11, 2001. The setup is that terrorists have grabbed some nuclear weapons and it's up to you, as John Mullins (based on the real life soldier of fortune), to stop them. Missions take you all over the place from Tokyo to Iraq to New York's subways. (It was unsettling to be marching through the New York levels mowing down bad guys and realizing that in real life worse events were unfolding.) But whichever level you're currently in the over-riding goal remains the same: "Neutralize" the terrorist threat. This doesn't prove to be much of a problem as the enemy AI is below the intelligence of slugs. Sure they'll pop out from around corner and fire a few shots - but these actions are scripted and not programmed into the AI. Most enemies will run at you, sometimes shooting, sometimes not. If they are shooting they won't often hit you no matter the difficulty level. If an enemy is standing still they won't aim, instead they'll spray bullets side to side making it very easy to get within about three feet before unloading your shot gun. Yes, you will get hit sometimes but there is so much extra body armor and health packs lying around that recovering is no problem. Enemies don't vary much. There are the occasional rocket launcher toting guys or tanks or helicopters but nothing to change your tactics. However, there are many points where bad guys will suddenly appear behind you to get in a few cheap shots. (Which has nothing to do with the sound meter which can trigger surprise attacks if it hits its limit.) They attack in numbers or with force (usually just as you come around a tight corner) rather than with any kind of accuracy or strategy.

Level design doesn't do much to help the overall score of the game. It's linear to the extreme. You'll always know exactly where to go. Some levels require you to push buttons and turn levers - it doesn't get more complicated than that. Most levels can be done in one try.

The story is clichéd - direct from a bad comic book. The in-game cutscenes are pretty hokey as they rely often on shots of Mullins slowly jumping out of the way of an explosion. And even though you have a sidekick, Hawk, you never get to interact with him during missions. He goes off on his own, showing up here and there (at least until he's killed). There's never the chance to coordinate attacks or at least buddy up for a while. Half-Life did it with the security guards, why can't I do it here?

The graphics are all right but they are starting to show their age with the Quake 2 engine. The animation moves at a great rate on current machines and is very good. However, on the outdoor area there is an extremely annoying fog that took me back to the classic Goldeneye for the N64. Raven GHOUL engine does a good job capturing those oh so magic moments of blowing off the head of a guy from close range, or disarming a bad guy by taking off his arm with a heavy machine gun. Which is to say nothing about the kind of havoc you can create with the flamethrower. Thrown into the mix are some really good tunes that add to the tension but I could have done without the constant wailing when a bad guy gets a leg blown off.

Something that I liked about SOF was the fact I couldn't pick-up every weapon I came across. Picking up the rocket launcher requires you to dump some of your weapons because it's so big. Before each mission begins you get the chance to outfit yourself with your choice of equipment and weapons. It's a bit more "realistic" that way.

There's also a lack of quicksave and quickload. At the start of each section you get five saves to use at your discretion. Only once did I use more than three saves on a level. Mainly, I used saves after surprise encounters with tanks.

Multiplayer is included but I found it hard to find a good multiplayer game.

thanx for readin it and i hope it`s a help to you,

Gimmicky, but still worth it

The word-of-mouth factor for this game was off the charts when it was released due to the supposedly incredible level of violence displayed throughout the game. Is it violent? Yeah, but that sort of gimmickry really only works on the teenagers and Washington DC lobbyists. The excessive gore gets old quicker than you'll anticipate, but thankfully you'll still be left with an above-average first-person-shooter.

The developers called it GHOUL, translated it means the baddies react to wherever they get shot, sometimes hopping on one foot, sometimes covering their nether-regions, or simply revealing some blown-out intestines. It's interesting about the first dozen times, but afterwards it's just more same-old same-old. This GHOUL system isn't defined enough to really provide a wealth of anatomically correct reactions, only about 7 or 8.

The gameplay itself is based on the now-classic Quake II engine, and while not providing the depth of Rainbow Six, or the intricate plot of Half-Life, it still manages to give the single-player gamer a compelling ride. The story is fairly thin, almost non-existant, and the gameplay is linear to the point where any deep thought is rarely called for. Just kill everyone you see, except the occasional civilian, who you most certainly will kill anyway because the targeting cursor is so small that distinguishing green from red is practically impossible in the heat of battle.

The "Platinum Edition" is nothing more than the Gold Edition with 5 extra multiplayer levels, a preview of SOF2, and the Brady Games strategy guide which is provided on disc, not in book form. So in short, it is worth it and stands on its own as a derivative, straightforward, yet fun FPS. Just don't count on the carnage providing any long-term satisfaction.
