I love sniping! In most shooting games, I tend to pick the sniper rifle, or anything to snipe people out.
When I saw this title, I had to get it.
When I started to play the first chapter, I had doubts that it'd be that great.
The sound of the guns, even how they fired looked old and very dull.
The graphics weren't even that sharp and impressive.
It did at times, give me a sniper feeling, but the game ended so quickly.
This just isn't a promising game.
An attractive box and reasonably priced......but that's it.

As my title suggests, a disappointing game!
As a sniper in this game, you spent most of your time as an infantry man, trudging the towns, fields, streets etc; but rather than being a true sniper specialist, you play an infantry soldier who just happens to have a sniper rifle.
The graphics are fairly good and the FPS perspective is well done, but where this game really falls down is in the gameplay. Let me explain...
1.) The play is very linear, you can't stray from the chosen path by more than a yard or two (at which point you'll hit an invisible wall). You have a compass that dictates which way to go next.
2.) Your fellow soldiers simply stand around and watch( not all, but a lot of the time), even when they are in the midst of a firefight, (especially when you're in desperate need of assistance)
3.) The enemy is repeatedly regenerated from one or two areas and you must kill all of them before you move on to the next encounter. (this became drawn out and tedious after a short while)
All in all, a "Call of Duty" wannabe, but poor play makes this effort a game to avoid.

I rather enjoy going it alone. This game allows you to snipe from a distance and then switch to your "2" weapon for close quarters combat. The enemy AI will run from side-side and/or rush you. The game dictates that you must move slowly, play angles, snipe from afar then Thompson those you missed or couldn't get on the initial try. You have to clear rooms, streets etc. The terrain varies as does what you're required to do. Fixed emplacents offer you to "spray lead". The enemy AI isn't bad and the numbers they throw at you is manageable, providing you shoot first/accurate/use cover/play angles/switch weapons. However, I agree, babysitting Scarpello is nearly an "ending breaker". You basically have to fight 2-3 battles when he's involved. On the plus side, the game doesn't tax your wallet or System Requirements.
It seems Groove games likes to throw "the kitchen sink" at you near games end ? Kind of detracts from the flow of the game IMO(... same as in Marine Sharpshooter 2: Jungle Warfare and Marine Heavy Gunner).
A Fair Sniper Game That Has Some Problems.

If you played any of the "Medal of Honor" games, then you have played WW2 Sniper. The only real difference between this heavily scripted game and the other WW2 FPS games is the amount of sniping opportunities available.
The graphics are pretty good, except for the clipping problems. If you dare to walk outside of the scripted areas, you will fall through the ground to your death. I did this several times while exploring certain levels (you cross a bridge only to realize that it spans across infinity, you can walk behind a church and jump right off the map).
I bought the game for sniping and that is what it delivers, so I can't complain too much.
Poorly executed

The game was poor by any reasonable standard. The AI was horrible, and it was full of glitches. In one area the soldier nearby was about 8 ft off the ground and standing in a wall. The gameplay was exceptionally weak. There were times and I got stuck where no matter what I seemed to do the game ended saying I "abandoned my post" (this was following the compas waypoints) or "scarpello was killed". It just seemed poorly executed, as if enough time wasn't spent creating the game and working out the bugs. Save your money, even for $10 it's debatable if it's worth the frustration.
I'm so glad I was able to return this

I was in EBGames, and I was looking at all the games, and I saw this game. I had never heard of it before, and the box made it look really promising. I've always been interested in getting a sniper game, but all the ones that have come out have gotten terrible reviews. Since I hadn't heard of this game, I decided I'd try it out since it was only $20. I got home, installed it, and was really excited as the opening cinematic showed. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the game, those 2 minutes. The cinematic ends, and I start to play, and I was amazed at the graphics. Unfortunately, I was amazed that a 2004 game could have graphics this bad. Let me illustrate: I was walking down this road, and on the side of the road, there is this drainage ditch. There was supposed to be a little, rolling, hill down into the ditch. Instead, it looked like half of an octogon. And this was with the graphics all the way turned up. The weapon sounds are pretty forgettable, and as I can remember, the sound of you running wasn't in sync with the speed you were going at; you'd hear the sound of your footsteps, but they weren't synchronized with your feet touching the ground. Another thing that was really unrealistic was that when you look down your scope/sights, nothing would move, even if you were moving.
Luckily, I was able to return this game for a full refund.
Very bad game, I don't think I'll ever buy a game from Groove Games again.

If you're looking for a "Call to Duty 2" game on the cheap with this game, forget it. You get what you pay for. However, if you are looking for a quick little shooter and accept it's limitations, it's a nice diversion, especially for the price (I got mine at Best Buy for $9.95.)

WWII Sniper was pretty good but the better sniper game is Sniper Elite.
The graphics are more realistic and you will get your money's worth from the length of the game. There are easy modes on both games. No need for cheats. No cheat unlock anyhow for these games. Easy mode was test enough for me. I was over this game by the time it ended. I doubt I will play WW2 sniper again. Good hunting!
