Great game with good graphics but brainless!!!!

This game is only mediocore. The game has good graphics, but bad sound effects. It takes no advantages over the GeForce 3 and Radeon 8500 GPU's and it doesn't even use EAX sound mode! The game has brainless gameplay, which makes the game very repetetive after a few weeks. The only thing i found that the game has as a strong point is that I have never had as many enemies run at me at the same time.

for the worst

I hate to write a bad review for anything, but this game takes the cake. I'm basing my review upon my experience with the Half-Life series, so perhaps I'm setting standards too high, but here goes:

Pros: Nice action, beautiful scenery, nice cut-aways

Cons:
(1) Poor Interaction with Vodoo Brand Graphic Accelerators: First thing to do, even before trying to run this game, is download the patch that allows the game to work with a Vodoo Accelerator. If you don't, it won't run. What kind of software gaming company builds a FPS without bothering to adequately test it on a Vodoo Accelerator?

(2) Slow on Even Moderately-Fast CPUs: Okay, I have a 550 MHz Dell PC, but everytime there's more than a few bad guys on the screen, the frame update rate goes down to less than about 1 fps. Very annoying.

(3) Sound Not Working: two problems: first, you have to play with the options just to get the sound to turn on (turn off auto-adjust). Then, the sound of your guns is noticeably delayed, verses the graphics. Very Annoying

(4) Frequent Crashes: Something about the gernade launcher causes the program to crash, if firing more than one gernade at a time. Very Annoying. Don't bother to try to use the gernade launcher, if you don't want to have to reboot often

All in all, the makers of this game, in my humble opinion, should have spent a few more months doing some fine-tuning. I would not buy any more products from Croteam, based on this ... game. (Maybe its my computer, but I doubt it.)

Long loading times

First of all I watched all the demos in this game and I have to say I just couldn't wait to get a new game started. Then when the game started to load it took for at least half an hour to load and when it was finished the game went blank screen. I don't know if its just the disk or my computer but I doubht it was my computer. Just look at the disk when you get to the car and don't be like me and miss all of the action.

One of the best FPS ever

Should be More Serious

Serious Sam: the Second Encounter (SSSE) is a very good game, but it's got one trait I had trouble with: It's not serious!

Oh but the graphics are great! Croteam really deserves credit for a job well done. Sunlight, rain, and special effects are rendered very nicely in this game, and amazingly it ran smoothly even on my Pentium III system.

The weapons are good too. SSSE brings back all the weapons from Serious Sam but also includes a great flame thrower that can set a tree on fire.

But as I mentioned, this game isn't serious, and I found that annoying. Shooters and lame jokes just don't mix. When I travel to an alien planet to battle hordes of scarey monsters, I want to have white knuckles and a feeling of awe. The humor in SSSE just seems misplaced. I guess it's like laughing at a funeral.

Don't let that stop you from buying this game, however. It's well worth the price, and it'll hold its own with any shooter out there.

Amazing...

If you are tired of the dark, indoor enviroments of the Quake type engines and are ready for great outdoor enviroments with plenty of exploration and secrets then this game is for you. Do not let the price fool you. I am running the game in 1024X768 on an Athlon 850mhz/256megs ram/Radeon 8500 DDR/ Win2k Sr-2/ and it plays wonderfully. The only thing I notice is the occasional frame rate drop when entering a new area, but it is minor and probably can be corrected with a few tweaks with the video settings. The graphics are way better than in the first SS

Great Sequel

Let's face it. a lot of games we loved start to suck in their sequels. this isn't the case with SS2, however. great graphics, same fun gameplay, this is a great game. huge, bright environments, and cool sound. without the sound, the game would be much weaker. it picks up when there are a lot of enemies around, and every enemy has their own sound which makes it much easier to catch them before they get you, like the beheaded kamikaze, whose scream is the only way you could see him before he blows up on you. overall great game. with the new unreal games still a few months away, and no other great shooters coming out on the pc for a while, it's a great buy. plus it's really cheap, half as much as most games in its genre. two words, BUY IT!!!

Great Deal for the Money

Serious Sam: 2nd Encounter is how games should be done these days. The game is fun to play, looks great, and is priced to move. You have to wonder if a game this good can be put out for so cheap, why can't others. Buy this game and support the idea of good games for cheap.
