A solid WW II FPS

I bought this game after seeing all the hype of it's successor COD2. I have periods that come and go where I want to play a good FPS that is usually based on WW2.

I was, and am, still a big fan of Hidden and Dangerous2 which was not only an excellent single player game, but had a fun multiplayer. Alas, in the recent year or so the numbers have dwindeled except for the early hours since the game was very popular in Europe.

So I bought this game with high hopes to be the replacement for H&D2. Well, I have to say that it has really met my hopes and expectations. The action is very intense, and the sounds of the various weapons are very accurate(except the .45 pistol, IMHO)

It's good to see a game where the MG 42 both sounds and fires like it really did.

You really get a feeling that you are not the star of the show, but just another grunt in the thick of the war. There are random shellings that could possibly kill you even though you have defeated the enemy that was around you. The game does a great job at making you feel like you are there, and the actions of your fellow soldiers doesn't feel artificial. Some will charge in and shoot the enemy, possibly getting mowed down. Others will take up a defensive position, while others try to guard your flanks. (or rears, lol)

The multiplayer is the best I've experienced in a WW2 shooter thus far. The servers are packed with tons of people that you can join in with for deathmatch, team deathmatch, and a bunch of other styles of play.

Graphically, the game really shines. The only gripe I have is that you can't really damage your surroundings. I want to be able to shoot out lights, blow down doors, and take a chunk out of a building with a panzerfaust. Other than this, there are no complaints.

Even though it's successor is now on the scene, please don't think this is a second rate game. It is a great game, and it is a great deal of fun for the money. The current price is sweet!

Possibly the Greatest War Games Ever Made!

If you've played it, then you know. If you haven't, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Think of the HBO series Band of Brothers. Or the movies Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates. Single player and multi-player modes are equally excellent.

Great game

This game beats Medal of Honor hands down. Much better squad play, you don't have your guys just standing in the middle of a road or field begging to get killed. You participate with the rest of your squad and don't have to do EVERYTHING and keep them alive.

I thoroughly recommend this game to all who are interested in this type of game play. I will admit I'm getting into Call of Duty way after it came out but better late than never. Plus it's cheaper this way.

Great, enthralling and tons of fun!

Call of Duty is a great WWII shooter plus historically accurate. The most important thing for me was that is you can replay this game so many times before it becomes boring. Im still playing the campaign, and im still having fun with it. You get more then what you pay for. With amazing battlefields, pretty good graphics and good in battle action, call of duty could be on its way to the top of all WWII shooters. The online play is good although its hard to play with your friends since its almost impossible to tell were your friends are so you must communicate over the phone to make sure your in the same room. All together this is a great game, and i will be playing it for a long time to come. It is certanly more realistic the MOH and its more fun. This game is so addicting it has me on the edge of my seat for COD 2!

Great Game!!

I'm probably much older than most gamers that review here. If any of you remember the Combat TV series then you'll be able to guess my age range. I really liked this game although I must admit I am not an everyday gamer. I read other reviews about this game and thought I'd give it a try.

Graphics, great. Sound, great. Detail to history, great. Not much bad to say about this game. It took me about three weeks of on and off play to complete the enitre campaign at the easy level. Of course I had to replay many levels several times since I like to run and gun a lot. This game is not made for that. A lot of strategy is envolved making you wait for your buddies to catch up and help kill the bad guys.

I noticed that there was a hand or foot sticking through walls at times after a kill. This could be due to the graphics card on the Mac G4 laptop that I was playing on. I can't wait to try this out on my new G5 dual core to see if game play is any better. I can't imagine it could get much better.

I probably will buy Call of Duty 2 to get more battle scenerios. I will also go back and attempt the more difficult levels of play to see how I stack up. I wish I had the time to play online. I can't imagine how that would be but I'm sure it would be fun.

EXTREMELY Great Game

I own both CoD and CoD2, and I can say that they are both top-notch games. I think that some of the best multi-player maps are included with this game, and I think it's a must for any FPS gamer.

But if you appreciate graphics a LOT, then you would be better off buying CoD2

A Great game for FPS and WWII buffs

This is a great product.....still playing online after a few years...lots of modded maps and servers.
Made the mistake of leaving Medal of Honor to soon....will continue to play Call of Duty United Offensive for at least a few years to come.
Call of Duty 2 does not allow modders as much flexibility.
Lookin' forward to killin' ya online!! - dogbreath
