Very cool first person shooter. My favorite feature of this game is the fact you can use the weapons sights to aim with... no floating reticule!!! The action is fairly realistic with the enemy AI being consistent if not diabolically clever. I can gush 12 pages about the things I like about this game, so instead I will cover what I found to be shortcomings for the sake of brevity. Like all games of this nature I have played, the game has "trigger points" to generate enemies.... so being clever and knowing there is an ambush around the next corner or through a doorway and bouncing a grenade through to clear the way only costs you a grenade... you have to allow the trap to be sprung. Second, the game is objective driven... it will keep generating enemies no matter how many you kill until you complete certain objectives over the course of each mission... so keep moving!!! Third of course is the sometime ridiculous nature of the mission... you have a whole squad yet you are the only one capable of doing anything and your buddies have no fear of a hail of bullets it seems and none of them will lend a hand sticking bombs on that tank over there.... Granted some of these complaints are typical of any game so they aren't uttered as a shout but a whisper. A very cool addition for any war buff or FPS fan... I look forward to future releases that perhaps let us play some other scenarios (like Polish slums or French underground), or perhaps even the other side!!

This game is, Very FUn. The original call of Duty is required to run Call of Duty, United Offensive. There is one game mode in the Multiplayer of Call of Duty United Offensive called base assault, which is really fun. Also, in the single player you are virtually unstopable and you kill thousands of Nazis. Its also nice that you ALMOST always fight in a squad. Exept for a few missions. Good Game.

This is a great product.....still playing online after a few years...lots of modded maps and servers.
Made the mistake of leaving Medal of Honor to soon....will continue to play Call of Duty United Offensive for at least a few years to come.
Call of Duty 2 does not allow modders as much flexibility.
Lookin' forward to killin' ya online!! - dogbreath

This game is quite enjoyable. I have finished the first game CD and it was great fun! The second CD was quite challenging at the start being at the fronline action. The game music supplied in a separate CD I have installed in my 6 CD changer in th ecar and the music is very interesting! The game plays very well on an Athlon 2800 chip unsing nVidia 64 MB video card.
awsome game

when it comes to world war 2 games, the 2 games that come to mind are battlefield 1942 and call of duty. im gonna say it flat out, buy call of duty. it has a very fun singleplayer story spanning many levels, many diverse weapons(unlike battlefields 10 guns), and great multiplayer. it also has some cool mods out for it.
EXTREMELY Great Game

I own both CoD and CoD2, and I can say that they are both top-notch games. I think that some of the best multi-player maps are included with this game, and I think it's a must for any FPS gamer.
But if you appreciate graphics a LOT, then you would be better off buying CoD2
COD is a great game

I recently (May 2006) bought Call of Duty + United Offensive Deluxe set for $30.00. I have played Battlefield 1942 + Road to Rome and Special Weapons for over a year. I recently also acquired Vietnam Redux and have enjoyed that - (although the constant repetitive lines such as: "Draw back, we're taking hits!" gets a bit annoying after awhile). I only play offline and I don't want foul language or extreme gore. And although I really like BF, my 4 biggest complaints with BF would be: the lack of destructible surroundings; the long time to spawn once killed; the lack of armored vehicles, tanks or planes on many occasions, and your incompetent AI comrades which often get in your way.
So after watching a trailer on the COD game I decided to buy it. I was greatly surprised by the action, the intensity and the visual/audio quality of this game. I really like the variety of missions it offers including ship sabotage, blowing up dams, storming and holding various buildings, rescuing captured officers, taking out flak guns, etc. The Russian soldiers arriving in Stalingrad by boat and the attempt to take Red Square is amazing! You really get a sense of the fear and chaos of men arriving in the middle of a war. I love the background noise and voices of the soldiers and the real-like interaction of the soldiers - both friends and enemies. When I throw a grenade I can hear the Germans shouting out "grenade!!!" My AI buddies shout a warning to me if a Kraut should throw one our way - which they often do! This type of interaction never happens in BF. In general the AI comrades and enemies act intelligently.
There is an introduction training-boot camp lesson to help you learn about body movements and weapon types and controls. There are 37 intense single player missions! With 3 different levels of difficulty. The healing packs are ok, but I wish that self-healing could also take place when one is at rest. Some of the surroundings are destructible and at time doors or gates that are closed will open (or get blow open) with a blaze of gun fire! It also has a nice balance between your participation and that of your AI comrades.
My biggest complaint with COD is the difficulty most of the times in discerning my comrades from the enemy. The clothing is often too similar. At times I have killed one of my own buddies and at other times not shot, thinking it was my buddy, only to be killed by a kraut! If you aim your weapon directly at a person some light indicator will show him as an ally - yet often you don't have time to go through this process. Perhaps this confusion is meant to exist since friendly-fire is a real part of war. It really bites though when you only have one or two buddies left in a tight situation and you inadvertently waste one or both! Also I would have liked to see the Kraut ship we planted explosives on blow up as we were making our escape and the dam do likewise. Access to tanks and other armored vehicles would also be a big plus.
I have accomplished the American and British missions and I am half way through the Russian mission - I can't wait to play United Offensive and I will be buying COD 2. I'll also have fun replaying these missions over again on different levels. I am also looking forward to the release of the Company of Heroes I've seen that it will have surroundings that are totally destructible! Will it have a good number of single player missions? Access to armored vehicles? Smart AI buddies and enemies? Teen rating? Time will tell.
I definitely would encourage anyone who enjoys a variety of intense, action-packed infantry battles to get COD.

This game beats Medal of Honor hands down. Much better squad play, you don't have your guys just standing in the middle of a road or field begging to get killed. You participate with the rest of your squad and don't have to do EVERYTHING and keep them alive.
I thoroughly recommend this game to all who are interested in this type of game play. I will admit I'm getting into Call of Duty way after it came out but better late than never. Plus it's cheaper this way.

A high powered PC with a superior graphics card with at least 256K onboard is essential for seamless gameplay and superior graphics. The story is somewhat laborious when the player's role is in the Russian Army even with it's humerous dialogue. When American, the story line follows familiar historical events. All in all, Call of Duty offers good graphics and rich content worthy of it's reduced price.
