A lot better than the first

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

This game is definetly not for the people who play Resident Evil 4; it's just for the people who are Raccoon City fans.

File 2 is better than the first in some ways. You get to choose your partners; that doesn't always have a good effect in the game, but it's still cool.
A big thing in this game was the ability to aim and walk; the big problem was I kept forgeting I could do that because I am adapted to the other Resident Evils.
It looks like the load time from room to room is a little less, but it still gets on your nerves.
The costumes are a little better; they at least look cooler.
The elimination and showdown rounds are pretty cool as well.(I can't remember if there were any in file 1.)

The levels [I think] are the best part about file 2. The police station, the zoo, and the hospital were all really fun. The subway and the lab are kind of boring, but improvements from the last boring levels like below freezing and hellfire.
It's also kind of fun to look for the special items and events when you are replaying the levels.

You should probably just rent the game before you buy it, unless you liked file 1.

No Longer Supports Online

As of March 31st 2007, capcom has dropped the servers and online support for this game. It still plays single-player but if your looking for a online multi-player experience then your out of luck.

Even Better Than the First

The controls are a lot easier, and the ad-libs are improved. The game has a "Training Ground" scenario, which is actually the outbreak scenario from the first game, abbreviated, so that you can learn the controls.
The first real scenario is "Wild Things," which takes place in a zoo. It's a lot of fun, except it's very annoying to have the elephant chase you around. But the mutant tigers and heyenas are pretty cool. The second scenario, "Underbelly," takes place in a subway. It has tick-like monsters that grow when fired upon, which is very interesting. The third scenario is my favorite, called, "Flashback." It takes place in an abandoned hospital in the middle of a forest. It's very ominous, and a masked man chases you with a hammer! It involves plant monsters, and has awesome zombies with flowers growing out of their heads!
The fourth scenario, "Desperate Times," takes place in the police department of Resident Evil 2 and 3 fame. It's cool to see an upgraded, PS2 version of the station. There are intriguing puzzles that don't interfere with the continuity of the other games, and actually help to enhance it. The annoying thing is that rooms are pumped full of gas at random that will harm you, and you must use special canisters to counteract the affects of the gas. The fifth and final scenario, "End of the Road," moves from a secret lab, to the sewers, to the streets of Raccoon City, from the "Outbreak" scenario in the first game. It's great to see the Tyrant protecting you for a change, and it also features the return of the hunters.
As with the first game, the virus meter is very annoying, and largely dictates the pace of the game, since you need to acquire as many health items as possible and use them quickly. But their are even more things to unlock, and more fun to be had.

Virtually Unplayable

First of all, let me say I am an avid RE fan. I have RE0, RE, RE3, RE4 (all for GC). And let me also state this is not a GC vs. PS2 review. This game is just bad, the controls suck, the frequent load times are irritating at best. I have not been able to successfully play this game more than 10 minutes at a time. If you think you might be interested in this game, I would recommend renting it first and see if you like it. Yes some people like things others do not, I do however think if you're an avid RE gamer, you will be disappointed.

this game is really not what i expected..i guess since i was playing re4 so much i sort of expected it to be like that. But none the less i still love resident evil games and i will still purchase the next re5 coming soon.

The new Resident Evil Outbreak is boring. I expected it to be action-packed, boy was I wrong. Every level has like 0-3 zombies. I RENTED THE GAME TO SHOOT ZOMBIES, NOT INFECTED ANIMALS. My advice, try it at a friends house or play a demo first.

Great Game

This is a great Resident Evil game. I have been playing Resident Evil games since 1996. Yes, the storyline is cheesey, but overall it is a great game. I hope Capcom is through makeing stories about Racoon City. I would like more Resident Evil games like Resident Evil 4. "Resident Evil forever!"

LOVED IT

Had so much fun with this game. Never did play it online. The only frustrating thing was that you are infected to begin with and you might get close to the end and die from infection.

What kind of an improvement is this?

I really want to like the Outbreak series, but its just not working out. This is nothing but an expansion pak with no improvements. The levels are fun for the first couple of tries but get old quick. When you beat them you'll be lucky to get 1000 points for unlocking the bonuses, but most of them costs upwards of 5000+ points, so expect to be playing through the first level 500 times on easy just to unlock everything. The difficulty is out of control. Easy is WAAAAY to easy, and "normal" is hardly normal. Normal would be very hard in any other Resident Evil, as ammo is cut nearly 75% and enemies are nearly tripled. Don't even bother with "hard" as its not possible, as you're given a handgun with 7 bullets and maybe a shotgun if you're lucky. You WON'T find any more ammo laying around. On very hard you might as well just say you've got a knife and that's it. If I've beat the first Resident Evil on hard without getting touched then you'd think normal difficulty would be playable, but it barely is. The offline AI characters are dumber than a sack of bricks, as I'm sure you already know. Expect them to be trying to hand you a red herb or a scrub brush while you're being torn apart by zombies, if they even survive more than 5 minutes. Do not expect them to help you. Online is a joke. Most online players seem to think Resident Evil 4 was the first in the series and once they see Outbreak's style, they start to complain and don't take it seriously. An example: I start the first level on hard with three other people online, within the first minute I've heard "help me!" atleast 100 times, and before I can even kick down a door, they're all dead, which makes the level impossible. Not recommended.

The second installment to the Resident Evil Outbreak series

The second installment to the online Resident Evil Outbreak series. Problems in the original game return (slow load times and lack of keyboard or voice support.) Capcom added the ability to walk while shooting at the same time in this edition, but that's basically it. The sad fact about that is, this could have been a stellar game if Capcom would just add in voice or keyboard support, seeing as it's just overly difficult trying to coordinate with fellow players online with only a few canned phrases. However, that's not to say the game isn't good, because it is fun...but only if you're already of a fan of the Resident Evil series and can forgive the game it's flaws (most of which can be found in every Resident Evil game, minus RE4) So if you're a diehard Resident Evil fan, the fact that you can play along with three other people online is something you're sure to find much fun in. But for everyone else, it'd be a rental at best. NnyCW for Capcom City, now give me some ammo!
