For all those who do not yet know, Lords of the Realm III is set to come out at the beginning of Fall, 2003. My only recommendation to you: save your money and buy it on the first day it comes out!!!
The last of a long list of successful Sierra products should not disappoint Lords II fans and promises to introduce novices to a whole different style of PC gaming.
In most RTS games, you just defend yourself until you outproduce your opponent's war machine, which produces a very redundant style of play, that even amazing graphics or innovative scenarios cannot overcome.
However, in Lords of the Realm III, a total different dimension is introduced: you play in a field with 200 other AIs (knights, clergy, independant cities, etc.) and the point is to become the most influent, not the unrealistic "world domination" objective. 200 different players on the same map, wow! Can you even imagine an online multi player game?
In Lords III, instead of fighting against everyone else, you start out as someone's vassal and by completing his orders (conquer other territories, supply food and labor, and so on), you are yourself granted territory, armies, etc. This system allows you to be part of a greater plan and develop yourself in the shadow of a mentor, which is much closer to the truth of the Middle Ages!
Once you are influent enough, you can have your own vassals and direct them towards your enemy. I thought this was a great novelty that will make this new version of Lords incredibly interesting to play!
Another point is the enhanced AI for the merchants! You may be asking yourslef, "why the hell would a merchant be granted an AI?", well if you and other players buy too much from one merchant, he will gain enough power to establish himslef as one of the players, like the city of Venice for example! A merchant that gets rich is greedy and will seek to conquer territory and expand his influence. For this reason, merchants muct be used with great care and only when they are absolutely needed.
Furthermore, it is possible to bribe the merchant into not selling a particular type of good to one of your enemies, in order to weaken his position, but one must still beware of the consequences of enrichning the merchant...
Obviously, this is only a snapshot of the many features that we will al discover next September... Now all we can do is hope the day will come soon...
Overall, I think that this game will be a major revelation and will be a watershed in Strategy games.
I can't wait, can you?
Better than #2

This game is going to be GREAT!!! I only have Lords2 and that one is very addictive and fun. After a while Lords2 gets boring because nothing really changes, but i've been on the Lords3 website and it looks great.
WOW, 5 out of 5 stars! Golly...

How does a game get 5 out of 5 stars even before it's released? Someone, please give me a clue!
I'm a HUGE fan of LOTR2 and am eagerly awaiting this release. However, I'm bitterly disappointed that the turn-based/RTS dual mode of LOTR2 is being abandoned in favor of full RTS. My concern is that the game might degenerate into a tiresome click-fest.
Let's just restrain our enthusiasm until this title is released and all the fixes are available.
Thanks.

This game is a much anticipated sequel to Lords of the Realm II. A great game, but lacking in computer AI and graphics. I personally have been waiting for this game FOREVER. It was originally announced to be released in the last quarter of 2000! Up until recently, it was December 2002, then March 2003, then September 2003, and now its been pushed back to November.
Lords of the Realm II was released in 1996. Eight years between sequels. Assuming they stick with this newest pushed back release date. At this point, the unexplained, unreasonable 3 or 4 years of pre-announcements at this game's release makes me angry enough to forgoe buying this game at all. I give this game a one, due to the shameful behavior of the company regarding the treatment of the game's fans.
Hope springs....

Like others who have written, I'm a big fan of Lords2 and eagerly await the sequel. But I am NOT pleased to see it as RTS. Not only that, but I was a big fan of Master of Orion 2 and eagerly awaited a much delayed sequel. What a dissapointment!!!! So I will reserve judgement and read reviews here and elsewhere before I rush out and buy. I hope for much but am prepared for a big letdown.
i love LOR and LORII !!!!

man the only thing that sucks about this game is the time it took those guys to release the game!!!! this game is a kind of like the Total war series, except, this game is much more deep in the management part of the game...in other words, this isn't a game where you just build an army then pummel the other guy n2 pulp.....superb graphics from what ive seen, and a great buy because of its replayability! as i said before, the only thing that is bad, is the wait i had to endure for the game to be released!
Just a thought

I am really looking forward to this game (Huge fan of the Lord of the Realms II) and I think that with these changes it might even improve a great bit on the first two. But lets not make our judgments on the game when it hasn't come out yet. I was reading other reviews where people had already decided not to buy the game just because it had been delayed(admittedly a very long time) but its a game folks, if it had been released earlier we all would have been very disapointed. Atleast this way although I had to wait for the game, I can feel pretty confidant that Impressions is just trying to make sure they release a good game.
Disappointed but hopeful

I have read several of the reviews on this sight and must agree that it is disappointing when a game is delayed. I enjoyed Lords II but found it lacking in both depth and replayability. I was delighted to here that Lords III had much more depth of play and a more refined story line. It is unfortunate that the game was delayed. I have been waiting for the sequel for years now so, no one is more disappointed than I am. But, we must realize that very sofisticated and detailed games sometimes have setbacks. We can only hope that this setback will produce a better product...with excellent playability and free of bugs. However, I remain sceptical. The studio had better put out an exceptional product...BUG FREE...to justify such a delay. I gave the game Three stars only because I cannot rate a game based on a one minute trailer.

I'm a little disappointed about the fact that Sierra announced the release of LOR III in 2002. The latest review states Spring 2004. I hope the game will be released before summer holidays. If I was to work like that as an independent engineer, I would have been bancrupt by now.
Please release this game, I'm disappointed in the other games that were announced as the successors to LOR II (and I can't get LOR II startet on my new PC with XP Pro!)
Hopeful with concerns.

I usually buy about two video games a year for my PC. I have to say Lords of the Realm II is still my favorite (I bought it in 1997). I only had two problems: one, it was too easy because the computer opponents did not fight very hard; and two, the graphics and storyline were not that interesting. I hope Lords III deals with these issues instead of revamping the entire game, or creating junk like Lords of Magic.
