Reviewed on a 1GHz, PIII with ATI Rage Pro 128, 256M RAM.
This is a joke, right? We're not seriously expected to pay for this program which would have been considered unimpressive five years ago. The graphics are mundane, the character movement is crude and awkward, it doesn't play full-screen (it's always in a window). The cut scenes are played by 3rd rate amateur hacks with video/audio synchronization like a dubbed martial-arts movie. The third person view constantly blocks the objects your looking for and you can't change the view to be more overhead.
The graphics are so crude the program should run smoothly on a 333MHz box but its really sluggish on my 1GHz. What's it doing with all the cpu time? Looking for extraterrestrial intelligence? If Tolkein were alive this dross wouldn't bear the name of the Lord of the Rings!
I expect more from Vivendi - much more!

Wether or not you like this game depends on: How well you know the story of The Lord of the Rings, how resourceful you are, and if you like killing things.
I was really impressed when I first started, the graphics are the best I've ever seen in a computer game, and it was fun and challenging sneaking around black riders and distracting them with rocks. I didn't like killing wolves, though, because wolves are my favorite animals, but that's just me. They're actually wargs, you can tell by their rat-like tails.
But then I got to Bree. I was Aragorn(Strider), heading out to find materials to make decoys of the hobbits. And this guy came up to me, and literally started attacking me!!! I don't know about you, but I don't remember any HUMAN attacking the characters in the books or the movie.
I didn't feel comfortable going around slaughtering people, even if it was just a game. So I left that part to my brother.
So, this game was fun (so far), aside from some principals I didn't agree with. Just a warning to all you parents: The battle sequences are extremely violent and gory. There are sound effects (people grunting as they stuff swords and axes into each other, splurting noises as blood goes flying, and moans when someone crumples to the ground), and also, - and this is just me - I was dissappointed with how the characters looked and talked. For such a maturely designed game, the people sure sounded like little kids.
A Good Play

Some of the people that wrote a review about this game don't have a clue what they're talking about. First of all one reviewer complained about the camera angles; he said that he often got killed because they were sooo bad. The camera angles are in fact not bad, simply because you (the player) control the camera. You can make it face any way you want. But, at times you will have to rotate the camera to see what you're fighting, and the most that will happen is that you'll take a few hits. You will certainly not be killed! I do have to agree that the game has some bad qualities such as: Long movies; A Boss at the end that has nothing to do with the book/movie what so ever; It was a little short, I think it should've taken me longer than 8 hours to beat it; and finally i think you should've been able to play as Legolas also (his character has become VERY famous since the movie). But, all in all Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, is a good game and i would recommend it to action lovers.

This is the worst game i have ever played. I would rather play pong or space invaders on atari. Even after downloading the patch the sound still dosen't work right and it still freezes on the mines of moria. I think the challenge is not playing the game but figureing out how to make it work. I am an experianced gamer so i have a very good comp and have never had problems with any other game.
Great game for TRUE Tolkien fans!

I love RPGs and this is a great one! All the people complaining about camera angles have nothing to complain about because the gamer controls the camera angles. In addition, anyone who is mad about the story or the voices not being the same as the movie shouldn't have bought the game thinking it was going to be the same. The package said nothing about being "based on the movie." Overall I was very impressed with the graphics, especially the Shire which was beautiful. I also had no problems installing or playing the game on XP. So, those of us who knew Tolkien before Peter Jackson, buy this game! It lets you walk through the Fellowhship as Tolkien wrote it (WITH Tom Bompadil!). Then for those people who only want blood, gore, and big scary monsters; go rent the DVD.

I would have to say that this is probably the best game i've ever played. however, i am a HUGE fan of lotr, so i ignored some things with this game. if you are a lotr fan, then get this game. i finished the game w/in 4 days of buying, i spent probably a grand total of probably 10 hours on it, so the game is not that long. it is challenging at times though, especially in the shire getting past the ringwraiths (that took me about 3 hours.) graphically its awesome. you want remember the soundtrack. don't expect to see characters resembling the movie characters. my biggest complaints were: when there are a lot of people on the screen and there is a lot of action going on it would skip. also, while fighting the zombie creature in the wright barrow house and the ringwraith at the end of the game, they both disappered causing me to restart. be sure you save your game after you do things. i would get real far in the game and then die, causing me to start way back at the beginning, cause i would forget to save. i highly recommend this game, but i think i might go buy EA's 'The Two Towers' when its released.
Believe me, it is really bad

This game is really bad... i finished it in about 40 minutes! It is completly linear, you cant go out of a guided path, and u dont even need to fight... u can pass the whole game (except some "bosses") RUNING! Trust me it is so boring u will be angry about the LOTR name being used in such a bad game!
I think Vivendi Universal should trust no1 but Blizzard to develope their games!
Who knows?

Unless you are a beta tester for this game, you should be careful in your review of it. While I agree that the Lord of the Rings is a fantastic movie, don't let your gaming judgement be clouded. Look to Computer Gaming World or PC Gamer for honest, up-front, and biased reviews. These people are professional gamers who test games like this all the time. Having said all this, I have no doubt that this will be a great game, but be careful and look to others who have actually played this game.

I bought this game with high expectations, for a game that claims to be the "official" game based on J. R. R. Tolkein's The Fellowship of the Ring. To start with, this game is relatively short compared to the GBA version;however, this game can be beaten in one day, without cheat codes!(it doesn't have them)With a annoying plot twist at towards the end, this game ceases to appeal to non-movie tolkein fans. The gameplay is pretty simple, providing you can take the annoying archers and Frodo's lack of fighting advantage. Only buy this game if your willing to take anything related to Tolkein or want to see a original design other than Peter Jackson's vision of Middle-Earth.
Very Disapointing

This is the worst game i have ever played. It has major probloms installing on XP. It took me an hour before i could even play. The controls are insane. You will often get stuck in the corner of a room. In the begining you must complete pointless quests to get useless items. I looked for a lost kid for half and hour and what is my reward. A mushroom!! I tried to explore the shire but whenever you take a few steps off the path there is an invisible wall. fighting is cheasy. you go through confusing mazes and hit spiders with sticks. no mater what haptens to your allies the will never die. All they seem to do is get lost. while in moria you can barely even see what your fighting. The voices are cheesy. The balrog is barely taller than gandalf and is easy to kill. The boss of the game is a ringwrath on a bird. While on the ground it does not even try to huryt you when it is in the air shoot it three times and the game is over. anyone who bought this game should return it like me.
