Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth is the most awesome and addictive PC game of all time. This game has a lot of the same charactaristics of the WarCraft games, but this game delivers more than 20 of those put together. You can be the humans/army of the dead/Ents and destroy the ONE RING "TO RULE THEM ALL," or you can be the orcs/trolls/Balrogs (the thing Gandalf faught in the cave of the 1st film). Speaking of the film, the game portrays much of its dimensions. Although Gandalf doesnt die off and come back, and Bormir doesn't either. But this game still kicks ass. It makes those video game awards turn to dust, if it were up to me, the Battle for Middle Earth would take every trophy. Its really fun to trample the orcs with your horse units, and really fun to have the Ents throw rocks at the orcs. They fly up into the air, then die. This game has all that you could wish for...except a full hardrive. This game takes up 4 GIG!!!! So i would recomend looking at how much you have left before you buy it. Anyway, this game kicks any games' ass!!! SO BUY IT NOW!!!
This Is The Sickest Lord of the Rings Game Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im a huge lotr fan and boy, was I going to like lotr more when I bought this game... This is the sickest most intense RTS game available...It may be a power hog but it is definitely worth uninstalling other games to make sure it works good. Now for the things I like about The Battle for Middle Earth....
>The graphics are phenomenal...almost as good as or better than ps2
>The character's voices are the same or similar to the real thing
>The amount of warriors you can get surpasses War of The Ring
>The heroes abilities and strengths are exceptional
>You can use the siege equipment like it was used in the movie
>You can place archers for the Free Peoples all over your camp walls
>When you use wargs and horses you can run over your enemies
>You can use creatures like Eagles,Balrogs,The Army of The Dead,
and Ents
>I could go on for hours...
Overall if you dont get this game, your missing out.
LOTR fan or not this game is good for anyone. I appreciate your reading this review.
Thanks

I was expecting a solid real time startegy game like Rome Total War or even the dated Praetorians but was very dissapointed to find out that The Battle for Middle Earth (TBFME) is a lot like the Warcraft series, basically a mouse click-fest where the only elements that matter in the low sacle fights are how many units you created and how fast you can click the mouse or shortcuts during battle. Terrain, unit positions within each other, prescence of commanders, flank or rear attacks, surprise, morale, or anything else from more realistic battles have no effect.
For these reasons, the game (TBFME), ends up being a flashy patchwork of sounclips and cinematics from Peter Jackson's superb movies and nothing more than a failed attempt at recreating the epic battles from Tolkien's masterpiece novels.
best game ever.

I thought this game would be no good but when you play it takes you in a new world with monsters and heroes that will fight to the end with you.You must have it in your house for it is the best game ever. But beware you need a dvd connected to your computer or else it will not work but apart from that it is the best.
One of the best RTS games ever created.

I've been playing RTS games for years. Warcraft 1, 2, 3, Starcraft, Settlers, etc..
This game ranks in the top 3 "best RTS ever made".
Make sure you've got a good graphics card because my Radeon 9700 Pro & P4 2.53Ghz barely handled the games at 1024x768!
Great Game a 4.5

This game has nice grahpics, even set at the lowest settings, and I have had no problems with video or sound. It plays just like a warcraft game...get resources, build buildings, make troops, attack, and defend. You have different troop types and heros to do battle with straight from the movies. The voiceovers by the actors who played Sauramon, and Gandalf add a very nice touch to the game. The only dissapointment I had was that I was hoping for a bit more control on a strategic level vs. all tactical and how many times do you have to kill Aragorn? The powers of the Evenstar for good and Sauron's powers in addition to troops are fantastic...just wait till you can summon a Balrog or the Ghost Army! If you liked warcraft....get it. If you liked Lord of the Rings....get it. If you liked both...you'll be in heaven, must get it.
Living up to the hype!

Gaming fans of Tolkien's epic novels can now put themselves right onto the battle field!
I had read several reviews about the game before purchasing it and was concerned about the skeptic prophecies of too much hype. However, once I put the game into the drive I never looked back. The very minor flaws in the game are overshadowed by the fantastic gameplay, great sound track, sound affects, action, and voice-overs!
This game is extremely enjoyable and well worth the money I spent on it. Congratulations to EA for once again living up to the hype.

With any real time strategy game the most enjoyable and challenging part of the game is when you take on other players. This is the reason why I purchased the game, to match wits against people from all over. You can always outwit a computer AI, however when a live person is on the other side, things become much less predictable.
The game can be played over a network, or over the internet. The internet setup is very simple and easy to use. Almost all games are played through a quick start. With the quick start you can choose to play 1v1 or 2v2. You can also choose what speed of connection the other player needs to have and what race to play (Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, Isegard, or Random). I have found that a 1v1 game usually takes less than 2 min to find someone that matches up to your level. For the 2v2 games it always seems to take forever, and usually I give up and jump on a 1v1 game.
Game play comes very fast, on a randomly generated map. The maps are always random, picked out of a selection of (guess 20-30) different maps. Play can be very different changing the way that you play the game. One example is there are a couple of maps with Towers. Get a group of archers quickly up all of the towers and you control the game.
Play in the game comes down to the person who controls the outside farms and outposts controls the game. In the online game you cannot play defense and win. The outcome of the game is determined in the first 10 minutes. The rest of the game comes down to cleanup. He who expands out the quickest, and controls the outside world wins.
A question that comes up often is: What is the best race to play? There is no one best race, each one has its strengths and weaknesses. It is important to know what race you are fighting, what their most common strategy is and plan your army accordingly. For example if you are playing against Rohan, its important to get out pikemen or trolls quickly to take on their horsemen.
Heros are also a critical part of the online game. They are worth the cost and can make your armies much stronger than just having your normal troops out there. Do not forget to get and utilize the hero's in the game to change the outcome in your favor.
The ranking system is fairly simple and all games are reported automatically. Your rank is of course dependent on your win/loss ratio and what rank of oponent you have beaten. When you do a quick start the game does try to pair people who have similar rankings. The biggest dissapointment however is the rampant cheating. About 25% of the games that I am winning, the oponent will disconnect, which for some stupid reason makes it so that the game is not counted in the ranking system. This occurence is much more frequent when playing higher ranked oponents. Untill they make the change that all games get counted and the person who disconnects gets a loss, be prepared to be disapointed after a great win to not have it count in the end.
Overall, the online play is a lot of fun and varied. There is little chat between players because you have little time to do anything else but play. Most players are courteous and I have seen very little trash talking or other language that seems to ruin other games.
Overrated perhaps

As everyone figures, a strategy game is typically faster pacing and jawdropping fighting scenes. I figured this would be like most other strategy games I played, Earth series, Kohan, Starcraft, etc. But when I first played this, I was disappointed. I thought either my video card sucked or the game settings were set to slow, but to my surprise...this IS how the game is?!?! I was dumbfounded that this is how the game is, very slowly action and tedious clicking to do work. Don't get me wrong, this game has some good concepts, playing either race of good or bad with each of their specialties. I just can't get over the fact that I have to watch a "slo-mo" version of startegy. I mean where's the fun in hearing war cries and summoning creatures but watching "underwater fighting." I swear thats the only thing that disappointed me was that the game is slo-mo. Well that's just my review. Good game, good concepts, BAAADDD action.

This is the best computer game I have ever played.
Pros:graphics are good, you get lots of heroes on good story,on skirmish you can build huge army's,you can get lots of awesome powers.
Bads:people are slow,Mordor has no castle,it takes a while to load sometimes,it's hard to get points like to summon the Barlog or Army of the dead.Over all it's a awesome game and its worth every penny.Hope this helped you.
