Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes.........

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes isn't, essentially, a simplified version of Naruto Ultimate Ninja 2 as reviewers over the internet have been reporting. Sure, it has levels from that game and, in someways, is similar to it but there is enough things different in it to make it its' own game. First and foremost, it has team-based battles which is a welcome changeup from what is normal to the Ultimate Ninja games. Depending on what combinations of characters you use, special team-based skills can be had. There's new animations for your characters' special techniques & whatnot. You can battle your friends wirelessly anytime or anywhere you like.

There's a downside to the game, though. The load times for the game are a smidgen long(that is, if you're the anxious type that wants to get right in there & fight- they last ten to fifteen seconds long. I've seen longer with other games, like Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition & Mortal Kombat Unchained. To me, it is tolerable.). There's no story to speak of(unlike the Japanese game that was released last year in Japan, which was loaded with RPG-esque material). The gameplay, although easier to grasp, pretty much relies on one button. Depending on which way you push on the directional pad when pushing the button results in tweaking or modifying your move of attack.

Overall, CyberConnect2 delivers a satisfying Naruto fighting experience on the PSP. In some ways, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes is a more blisteringly intense game than its' PS2 bretheren. Not only that, it looks absolutely awesome on the PSP.

With the rising success of the Naruto franchise in the United States, it was only a matter of time before the games got thier day of light. Hits like Clash of Ninja and Ultimate Ninja for the Gamecube and PS2 mega boosted in sales to Naruto fans all around the world. Now its time for Naruto to fight its way to becoming Hokage on the PSP. BELIEVE IT!

Naruto Ulimate Ninja Heroes devloped by CyberConnect2 and published by Namco Bandai for the PSP, is more of a port to Ultimate Ninja 2, released this summer for the PS2. Fans familiar with the game should be able to jump right into this one, as nothing much has changed...well, control wise. The mini games you've learned to love, are no where to be found in this game. No more pressing triangle for different levels of specials, and no more mini games during them. But its still a great way to finishing an opponent, no matter how much its changed. All the voice overs you'd expect have made it in as well.

Theres not really a story mode to be found in this game, so fans expecting one, will be disappointed. In its place, there is Heroes mode. This is basically...nothing that has to do with anything. The game just gives one level to choose from, usually ending with who its focusing on like, "Attack From the Sand" ends with a fight from Garra. After each successful win, a movie is unlocked, and the next level, increasing in difficulty, is unlocked as well.

At the main menu you'd find the usual. Heroes Mode, VS Computer, options, all that. Fans familiar with the game will be happy to find the Promotion Test mode, here, you take on various task and get promoted among the various ranks, that the world of Naruto goes by. Scrolls are needed to advance, which is usually able to be retrieved just by fighting.

Another mode to make it to the PSP game, Wireless Mode. Lemme get this out of the way now. THERE IS NO INFRASTRUCTURE MODE! Meaning, no online battle, just you, and someone with the same game near you can play. Theres also Game Sharing, your friend doesn't have the game? No problem, send a demo to him and you can fight each other head to head.

Naruto's house consist of unlockable items so you can view later. Pretty self-explanatory, nothing much here.

Parameter Power-Up. Here, you can power up all your favorite characters by using a points system added into the game, to become the ULTIMATE NINJA you want them to be. Points are awarded for fighting. Use the points to power up. Thats it really.

So with 20 playable characters, 16 playable arenas, Naruto Ultimate Ninja should be enough to satisfy Naruto fans who want to become one step closer in become the best ninja around. Sadly, no Online play, no real story mode, refines to the ultimate moves, and some missing characters and specials, may come as a shocker to Naruto fans. But this is still a good game for the PSP. Basic fighter, should be checked out especially for Naruto fans.

this is the release of Narutimate Hero 3 (previously released only in japan and has been out for a long while now) this is not a port of Naruto Hero 2. be thankful it was released for the psp in the usa. now you dont have to mod out your ps2 so you can play the best naruto game to date. honestky this game is more my style than the new xbox360 game coming out soon.

This game was a gift to a 12 year old. He tells me he really enjoys the game. It's challenging an a lot of fun. The only damper is that he cannot save his position in the game since he doesn't have a memory card for his player. We'll see about picking up a memory card later.

I just got mine today! It's a good fighting game for anyone who love Naruto. Some new feature is 3 men-team fighting. A mission type mode.
It got about 20 characters to choose. I recommended it!

Don't think of Ultimate Ninja Heroes as the PSP version of Ultimate Niinja 2. It's basically it's own game. There are missions you can do and rise up in the rank to become the leader of your village: THE HOKAGE! One of the really great features of this game, and it's one of the 1st games that i've seen it in, is the game sharing feature. That means that you and you're friend can play the game together and one of you don't even have to have a copy of the game. Me and my friend played together and the connection is really good. The load time is a little long in multiplayer mode but it's not impossible to live with. I love being able to change the difficulty of the game if your opponents that you battle are too easy for you. You can set it to easy, normal, or intense and believe me it can get hard. It took me 5-10 tries to beat on of the characters on Heroes mode. There are a few downsides to the game as in any game. For one, there are only 20 characters. I mean it's not bad for a handheld game but it would have been nicer if there were more characters. Number 2, the game is kind of short after you beat Heroes mode and Promotion Mode the game is basically over. Its not short for me being that I haven't beaten it yet but if you are really good at fighting games you'll beat it pretty quick. Other than that, its a really great and fun game. A must buy for any Naruto fan.

I've played a bunch of naruto games and this is, by really far, the best one. If you like the show it's a must, it has the 4 main leaf village teams, plus kakahi, guy, garaa, jiraiya, tsunade, orochimaru, itachi, and kisame. It's a challenging game to master, but really fun to play on the easier modes. I have been playing it for like a month and it's still not boring.

When I first bought Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes, I couldn't keep my hands off of it. I played it everywhere, at school, at home, at friends' houses, everywhere. It was that good. However, after a few weeks or so of vigorous playing, I felt myself drifting away. The game was losing its appeal. As a whole it has absolutely no storyline, but is purely arcade fighting. While mastering the game takes a while, finishing the game from easy to insane, can be accomplished relatively quickly. As a whole, the game suffers from the lack of versatility of each character. While each character possesses different strengths, weaknesses, and jutsu, their abilities are all channeled through the same O O O Direction O combos. Based on button input, all of the characters are the same. While playing each character provides a different experience, as a whole, each character is handled with the same repetitive button-mash style.

Graphics: 9, things looked crisp for the PSP
Sound: 6, music and sound effects were good, but the voice-work was terrible
Gameplay: 8, it was very addicting for a long time
Lasting Appeal: 7, definitely a fun game, but I rarely pick it up these days
Overall: 7.5, good game, but it just doesn't stack up with complex fighters such as Tekken

The first PSP game for Naruto fans and it's simply the best. Great graphics and fighting techniques. Choose from 20 of your favorite characters and their unique fighting skills. Sequels could only be better and worth seeing for this console. During the fighting sequences you can select and pick up from an arsenal of weapons. The gameplay is simple and easy to maneuver. You have the ability to power up your characters so that you can create the ultimate ninja hero. With Wi-Fi cabalities you can battle your friends and foes in the Naruto universe. Not only can you rise up in 7 different ninja ranks but you can battle through 8 interactive scenes throughout the game. While you select and customize your favorite character you can go through single player mode or fight in multiplayer mode. There you can work through team-based fighting and unlock secret teams. Even though you have 6 intense battle versus modes this game is a must have. If you're a Naruto fan, you might want to add this to your collection. This game might prove your skills and lead you on the path to your own unique ninja way. Buy this game today if you want a unique experience with great gameplay and unique style.

If only more people were interested in it...

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes is a purchase that is almost certainly worth it if you appreciate non-nuanced fighting games or the Naruto series in general. There is almost no depth to the fighting and at higher difficulties it becomes and infinite battle of using the kawarimi(I refuse to use the American 'substitution technique' even if I may be spelling it incorrectly) move over and over again or resulting to cheap tactics that might in any other game be called 'cheesing'. However, in Ultimate Ninja Heroes this is the norm and it quickly becomes more important to find who can string together unbeatable techniques in the safest manner possible than to actually be involved in the exchange of blows and timed counterattacks. If you remember though, I started this review off by saying that the game is worth purchasing, and I meant it. As ridiculous as the fighting system is, the CPUs take merciless advantage of it and quickly become challenging even for hardcore gamers. At the same time the Vs. CPU mode is extremely enjoyable and can be set to be at any difficulty, (although even the highest difficulty in that mode is significantly easier than CPUs in the hard story mode, let alone the insane story mode). The game also allows for an RPG inspired leveling sytem for you character's stats, which does tend to make them ridiculously overpowered if the slightest bit of though is put into it. This does not take away from the fun of the game though as you godlike characters are not usable in the story mode (called heroes mode for some reason). What makes it truly worthy of it's price tag however, is it's use of the PSP's game sharing functionality, allowing you to play a Vs. match against another PSP user regardless of whether they own the game or not (this feature also denies you use of your hard earned godlike characters so as not to completely unbalance the game). So being a fan of the series or enjoying the genre of games that Ultimate Ninja Heroes falls into will more than make up for its slights. There is one final gripe though in that the game has been significantly altered since its Japanese release...which wouldn't be such a problem if not for the fact that nobody in America seems in the least excited about this game. FAQ's are non-existent for the American version and there is little chance of finding another person within walking distance who is remotely interested in playing the game. This is perhaps the most significant reason why the game-sharing functionality is so important, in that if it required two people to own the game to play a Vs. match, the only way you would ever get to play one would be if you bought two copies of the game and would lend one to whomever you wished to play against (this may mean you will utterly defeat your friends whenever you play them unless they do a lot of game sharing with you).
