Fun is NOT Busted!!!

The original arcade version of this game is in my gameroom - and I still play it. I was hoping that the two might be similar... and they're NOT. This version might be better... granted it's 20 years COOLER and NEWER. Let's start with the fact that while there is no SUPER gratuitious violence... the language is a CLEAR "R" rating earner. The sound track is good -- but not fantastic... some good songs, but they get old after the 43RD TIME... The game play is quite good -- an open world to explore and hidden drug stashes to find while you complete a variety of missions in the GTA mold -- get the camera and take pictures of the drug gang... save the ambassador from the assassins... currency and drugs are found by busting drug dealers and muggers in your city. You can even pick up a bit of extra cash for health boxes by selling some of the contraband you recover. In a pinch in a gunfight??? A little dab of crack will go a LONG way in that situiation, although it won't help your badge rating. So bust some more perps to get it back up on the way to your meet with the guy selling the rocket launcher.

The game is not that difficult; I'm 6 hours into game play, moving steadily, it is absorbing enough to keep me interested. The dialogue is not as cheesy as in some games, thankfully, but I think a wider variety of "canned" responses from the men/women/pushers on the street would give it a much nicer sound.

My biggest problem with the game is the uncooperative camera. While you do control the view, from time to time your perspective swings into a wall or building and you can't see what you are doing -- this is especially annoying when you are trying to snap your cuffs on a perp in very limited "cuffing" window.

The key here is that this game SELLS FOR $19.00!!!!!! What were they thinking??? While this is probably NOT the Game Of The Year, it is FAR superior to MANY far more expensive games. If you are thinking of trying ANY of the GTA series, but don't know if you will like the format -- get this game. If you are looking for a few hours or non-pharmaceutical recreation, get this game. If you are under 14 -- ASK YOUR PARENTS -- then get this game!!!

AWESOME GAME.

I came here to read what others wrote about NARC for PS2 before buying it and there were no reviews. So i took a chance and got it. It was selling for $19.99 and you cant go wrong for that price.

Anyway, i loved the video arcade game back in the day and people told me they had this for nintendo or something, i dont remember it for any game console but i was hoping it was like the arcade version with the same graphics and stuff. It wasnt in my opinion but i was still REALLY happy with this game.

I love games like Manhunt and Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto so i figured id give this one a try. The game itself is really fun, it kinda has that GTA feeling to it, there isnt as much to do as much as GTA and thats ok because i actually liked this game alot more. the problem i had with GTA is all the little side missions you had to do, i like this game because it is straight forward. I also love the "drug" asspect of the game, the way you can sell it for some extra cash and use it for a quick pick me up. You can sell to undercover cops, so be careful.

There is actually alot to do in this game, you can be a "bad" guy and use drugs, sell drugs, and arrest anyone and everyone for no good reason or a "good" guy and play by the rules, or you can do alittle of both.

The graphics are good, not excellent but in the vain of GTA.
I've passed about 6 missions and sometimes the game is kinda vague about what you really have to do to pass the mission, but thats ok....you want the game to wipe your ass too? sometimes you have to use your melon and figure out what to do on your own.

I only got this game 2 days ago and have played it for a total of 3 hours so i havent gotten really far but far enough to know that this game kicks ass....GET IT!!!!!!!!!

This game was a lot of fun for all the wrong, distorted reasons. I was totally blown away by the drug use in this game. If GTA included this subject matter in their games, those people who object to this type of video game entertainment would go ballistic.

They've got guts for putting out stuff like this. It's sick people like me who will continue to buy them and enjoy them, especially for such a cheap price.

It's a lot of fun at first, but quickly loses steam

When I first rented this game, I was totally blown away by the drug use in this game. I had a lot of fun running around the city on weed, acid, ecstasy and speed busting criminals and drug dealers and selling their drugs to other people on the street. I even got busted by other undercover narc agents for selling drugs. I recommend renting it just to be able to that, cuz it was a lot of fun. But the problem with this game is that it fails to have an interesting storyline and interesting and fun missions to drive the rest of the game. You can only trip out on acid and run around for so long, and after about 2 days of doing a lot of that, it starts to get old. Add that with a story I really wasn't all that in to and missions that weren't rewarding or fun enough, I felt the motivation to beat it depleting quickly. I recommend it as a rental, because it is fun and worth checking out, but the lasting play value is very minimal.

If you compare it to a Rockstar Game........

If you compare this game to a title released by Rockstar Games like "Grand Theft Auto Vice-City" or "San Andreas" or "Midnight Club" you will definitly be disapointed. If I put this game in my PS2 following playing "Vice City" or "San Andreas" it seems like I am going 10 years back in video playing time. The graphics just aren't that great. The movement of the characters is not the greatest and the missions and storylines are well average at best. I bought this game because Bill Bellamy is on the soundtrack and the games concept sounded really interesting but I think Rock Star has set the standard so high for these kind of games I found it hard to really get into this one.

Just great

After reading a review of this game on IGN (which gave it a 6.5/10) I felt a bit worried; I had preordered the game a month before. But then I started to think about how IGN gave DRIV3R a 5.5 and I absolutely love that game to bits. So I bought it.

Good thing, too.

This game is amazing. It's more disturbing and disgusting than any GTA game or rip-off, and in my honest opinion I don't think this game is a GTA rip-off like MANY others think. The only reason this game and many others are compared to GTA is because of its open-ended gameplay (or lack of) that GTA "introduced". NARC on the other hand, if it had to be compared to another game, I'd say "State of Emergency". That's a genuinely fun game, and so is this one, that is if you can handle the R-rated material. The squeamish should take caution; if you don't like needles, stay away from this game. If you don't approve of any drugs at all, you might despise this game. But I am against drugs yet I love this game. It's straight-forward, cartoony, vulgar at times, but FUN. For 20 bucks, you can't go wrong, because unlike some games out there that focus more on sheer production value, this game focuses on straight-up gameplay (and that's why many think this game looks like a PS1 game.)

Get it. It's awesome.

How do people really like this game?

I will admit I have played quite a bit of this game. It can be a little fun except it is really a crappy game. The characters models and animations are really bad for a Playstation 1 game and this is PS2. Some of the missions are ridiculous (for example, the side mission where you have to take out snipers with a grenade launcher). They're detail in civilians is low since all the town's drug dealers all look exactly (I mean EXACTLY) alike. Also, you can bust them for just walking the streets and get a higher badge rating. I'm a Crim major in college and that is soooo the way to get sued if you are a real cop.

And, what pisses me off is the Asian level. It is impossible to fight people in Asia because they throw you like a rag doll when you try to arrest them, even the females. It's as if every Asian knows martial arts. Now, I can't get my badge level up. The previous level was a big huge gun fight and my badge level went down. So, now I need to get it up and I can't because I have to beat everything out of the dealers to arrest them.

This game is kind of fun, I'll say that, but it's frustrating how crappy it is. They seriously needed to spend more time on it. The only reason I'm going to keep trying to beat it is to unlock the classic arcade Narc game.

Terrible

One of the worst games I've ever played. Impossible to figure out what to do, hard to understand instructions, and poor design. Buy the original version of NARC on the Midway Classics Collection and you'll probably have more fun.

In this game, you play as a undercover drug cop. Will you be a good cop or bad cop? That is up to you.

The comparisons to this game and GTA are fair. The graphics are somewhat similar, and you have the option to play missions or free roaming sandbox play. However, unlike GTA, this game doesn't have any vehicles that you can ride in. Also, NARC seems to take place only at night (there is no change in day time or weather conditions).

What seperates this game from GTA (other then playing as the good guy) is the drug aspect. Just about every popular street drug is in this game, and if you choose to be a bad cop you can take them (and see the effects). Also, the fighting engine in this game is much better then GTA. You can grapple, throw, hancuff, tackle, ect (and there is a super arrest move meter). The aim for the guns is hard to get used to, but it isn't horrible.

If you want to see the effects of drugs, play this game and stay clear of the real ones.
