It captures the spirit of the Mission: Impossible movies

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

M:I-Operation Surma does a good job of capturing the spirit of the Mission: Impossible movies (hence the title). There's the going under cover and puzzles of M:I-1 and the action and stealth of M:I-2. It also has the spirit and atmosphere of the ever-popular stealth game Splinter Cell. However, even though a lot of people it said Operation Surma was too much like Splinter Cell, I say it has just as much stuff not in Splinter Cell that is in Splinter Cell. For example, in Splinter Cell, the game revolves around stealth. Stealth, stealth, stealth. Action is kept to a minimum with you sneaking up on guards and bopping them in the head. In Operation Surma, there's a lot more of shooting stuff, although it's kept to a level where the game is still very stealthy. But it's a lot more fun doing this sometimes than just hiding in the shadows. When it comes to stealth, this game does very well. Operation Surma has a stealth meter just like Splinter Cell, although it's a lot simpler. And there's another improvement over Splinter Cell: If you're discovered, and there's no time for your pistol, then you can use hand-to-hand combat, which much more well done that in Splinter Cell. In Splinter Cell, the elbow bopping continued while the guards continued to blast away at you. In Operation Surma, Ethan Hunt (the main character whom you control) can punch their lights out and do a couple of Jackie Chan-style kicks and chops. By the way, when you do a prone kill (where Ethan hand-chops the neck of a falling guard to keep on the ground after he's knocked down), hold down X so you'll see Ethan do it in slow-motion, it's really cool. The controls are good (and not at all similar to Splinter Cell except for the controls for firing) and are easy to get used to. The camera, however, may be a little tricky, but by hitting R3 you can straighten it out. The sound is great. The voice-acting is the best. Luther is voiced by Ving Rhames, the guy who played him in the movie, so he sounds very realistic. Other characters sound like their characters from the movies, except for Ethan. That's my only real problem with this game, that Tom Cruise didn't do the voice-overs and didn't have the character modeled after him (though Ethan still looks like him a bit). The background noise like the fireworks and gunfire sound realistic and are good too. This game is a very good game. It's just as good as Splinter Cell and does justice to the Mission: Impossible movies. If you are a fan of Mission: Impossible, like me, or a fan of stealth/action games, then get this game.

Hard core gamers might not like it, but for me, this game had great graphics, greats movie cut scenes, geat voice over work, intelligent dialogue, well paced action and stealth, excellent use of save points and in-mission checkpoints to minimize repeat level play, and just overall great missions and action! This is worth buying and ignore the haters who have given it a negative review.

Not Splinter Cell but still a great game.

The M:I movies have always been some of the coolst movies ever, so it's about time they make a game that stays true it. Sure, it's not Splinter Cell or Metal Gear but it still hoids it own. It's by far the best post Splinter Cell like game. One real cool thing about is most of the action sequences are inspired by the two M:I movies. I love the IMF gadgets. If you liked Splinter Cell, OO7: Everything or nothing, Metal Gear, belive me you will love this.

one of the best games ever

I beat this game pretty early on but it is sooooooooo kewl. The IMF gadgets r the bomb. u get this thing called a wasp and u fly it around and shoot people. Although throughout the game u reallly only have one gun.(Tranquilizer gun) But u do get different guns farther into the game but u dont get to keep'em.(sniper pistol, pistol thingy, automatic thingy) some levels really hard. over priced though big time:(

Combination of Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six 3

Loved this game! It combines the movie elements with some elements of play that are similar to Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and even a little Metal Gear. The missions are varied and for gamers like me who aren't strictly pick up and play type players it's easy enough to get a handle of and soon take off running.
The graphics are great and they have a lot of the actors doing their own characters, short of Tom Cruise but I actually liked the guy doing the voice of Ethan just fine. Lots of weapons and different types of missions.
I also enjoyed the fact that there are so many different things to change the game, stealth, shooter, and puzzle/objectives.
I rented the game first and then actually bought a copy that I have played more than once.

The only problem I really had was two parts of the mission where you need to follow a plane and catch a parachute.

Look forward to a sequel.

Clancy kicker!

This is the game to beat splinter cell. MI has hours of fun with tons of gadgets. The game is not based on any of the films although it has a clssic scene from Mission Impossible 1. This is a stealth action game with many remembered scenes from the movie. The only bad thing is Tom Cruise wasn't willing to lend his voice in the game so Ethan will be a little unreconisible. Apart from that this game will satisfiy all gamers

Easy Mode is Only the Beginning

Mission Impossible was a great TV series, a great movie, and now it has turned into a great game. It's a combination of stealth, puzzles and shooting.

This is definitely a game you can replay many times. The easy mode is REALLY easy and is set up more as a training tool for those who aren't familiar with this type of game. On the other hand, the harder modes can get REALLY nasty and it will take you several times to get through those.

The movements of the character climbing over boxes and sliding along walls are all extremely well done. The graphics in general are quite nice - maybe not up to Splinter Cell quality, but they do draw you in. The plot is great too - it is a plausible situation and you do start to feel connected with the various characters. You care about what happens to them.

The game isn't simple. This isn't a doom-like shooter where you plow straight forward. You actually have to think about the situation you're in, figure out what the best method would be for getting to your objective and then working on it. Don't expect giant glowing arrows in this telling you DO THIS NEXT! I really enjoyed the challenge.

Highly recommended for fans of the Splinter Cell genre, as a way to test both their reflexes and their brainpower!
