Great classic combination

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 1

This disc is loaded chuck full of classic arcade games from the 80's and 90's. Stuff that brought all those over 30 are sure to remember. Also, the cool 80's music that many of us enjoyed is playing on the menu screen (nice touch). Enjoy!

Good Compilation Game!!!

This game has older games on it than midway arcade treasures 1 and 2 and the graphics are not as good but they are still just as fun. This game features some of the greatest classics like Rampage, Joust, Defender 1 and 2, and gauntlet. There are other fun to play games on here like, Sinistar, 720, Ramparts, Smash T.V., and vindicators. Some lame games that were just thrown in for the heck of it are, bubbles, Rootbeer Tapper, Tube It, and Marble Madness. There are interviews on this game that tell you about the game game and that is a good thing to do if your feeling board, just do a little brushing up on your old school gaming facts. I would pay $10 to get this game. If you are looking for other old school games look at my reviews on the following... Midway Arcade Treasures 2 and 3, Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1 and 2, Taito Legends 1, Atari Anthology and Intellivision Lives. Some reviews of mine coming soon are Taito Legends 2, Namco museum (Not sure which one to get yet.), Sega Genesis Collection and/or Sega Classics Collection.

Some games are lost in translation, but still a nice collection

Midway's first Arcade Treasures collection features 24 of Midway's most well known old school games. The most well known games in this collection that you'll find are Spy Hunter, Gauntlet, Defender 1 & 2, Joust 1 & 2, Paperboy, Rampage, Robotron, Smash TV, Sinistar, 720, and Klax; but thanks to the control scheme of the PS2, a number of games get lost in translation. Take Spy Hunter for example. Using both analog sticks, most of the shoulder buttons, and a few of the face buttons, the game is almost unplayable. 720 and Road Blasters nearly suffer the same fate, and other games like Root Beer Tapper, Satan's Hollow, Rampart, and Super Sprint just aren't much fun to play. However, despite all the negatives, there are a few real gems here that are still great to play. The bad control scheme that I mentioned earlier is nearly perfect for Smash TV and Robotron, while Paperboy, Rampage, Marble Madness, Klax, Sinistar, and the Joust and Defender games are still great to this day. There's some bonuses here, including histories of the games and interviews with the developers (the history of Smash TV in particular is good and fun to watch) which are nice to have, and if you remember any of these games fondly this is a nice collection to have, but there are better retro game sets out there as well.

Unknown Two-Player Gems

Most reviewers mention the more popular games, but I found two games that I had never heard of in the 80s that have fantastic gameplay. Rampart is a build-a-castle, blow-up-a-castle game that is very intense fun for two or three players. Klax is a fun puzzle game that can be played alone or with a competitor (side by side, but playing individually). These games alone make this bundle an awesome buy. It is fun to revisit the other classics, but these two keep me coming back for more.

Limited to nostalgia

First, please note that this game DOES NOT include Moon Patrol! I bought it for that game. Hopefully the Amazon site will update the description.

Some of the games are still fun 20 years later, but some are just so dated that it's hard to get into them. The graphics are REALLY lame compared to today! But of course, we buy this for nostalgia value, and that is what you get. As far as I can tell, these are perfect replica's of the 80's games.Great time killers and no more losing fist fulls of quarters!

What looks like gold does not glitter like it.

Good to average material here. Graphics are little light at times to see clearly. Maybe if I had a larger screen television, the graphics would be better compensated. Disc comes with a lot of material or games but I personally only play about half of them.

More obscure games than what I used to enjoy; however, some people may enjoy that because they may not be offered with any other package disc like this one. The price was also reasonably fair for all of these games.

Navigating through this disc was quite different than others I have used; however, with lots of games comes several different steps or levels to pursue.

Great Retro Gaming

Midway Arcade Treasures surely does contain some classic 80s gaming...SMASH TV alone is worth the price (great for parties and even better now that it doesn't eat quarters like a fiend)! You'll have fun exploring some of the other offerings as well - Roadblasters, Sinistar etc. Sadly two of my favorite games of yor: Paperboy and Robotron 2084 have absolutely rotten control-translation. The game menu for the disk is also very clunky and tough to navigate...but if you can overlook the shortcomings, you'll have hours of great retro-gaming fun at your fingertips (for less than you spent at the local bowling alley arcades when you were a squirt). :)

bad paperboy

Paper Boy was always one of my favorite games (and the reason I purchased this disk). I admit that there is still alot of great games on this disk worth playing (like Sinistar, rampage, Joust), but I was really dissapointed because Paper Boys controls were horrible. I really enjoyed the sega version and found the controls good, so I was surprised that the arcade version controls were so bad.

Otherwise all the other games look and work great. If you want to re-live the old Starcade days, purchase this collection.

No Arguments Here!

This game was a great buy. Many arcade hits that were my favorites when I was 8 years old.....and got beaten in mere seconds. Paperboy, Root Beer Tapper, Spy Hunter, Rampage, and they are all perfectly restored, with the same music and graphics. If you're hooked on nostalgia, this is the game to get!! And as for price, with over 20 games, what are you debating on? No more quarters are needed! You'll get more than your money's worth, and it's so nice to see "FREE PLAY" on the screen.
