Good game, but not much different to snake-eater

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

As I think mentioned in other reviews, this game is virtually identical to snake eater except there is a different camera option and a few other minor differences. There is also an on-line play (but I didn't test it), snake vs monkey (fun), the old MGS games and a few other items.

Unless you are very crazy about the MGS line, I suggest you get EITHER this or MGS3: Snake Eater. If you have a choice, this one is more robust.

Well This Is an awesome game!!!! And theres some good reviews about it here. But Mine is for the Limited Edition. Its more like a WTF? This Is Freaking impossible to find. Whats the deal! Pre-orders at EB never came cause they Lost or deleted the SKU for it. Why will a SKU number be deleted i dont know. And then they say that no body pre-order it ( I went to 5 EBGames & they all said the same thing) But I was lucky and at the last one I cheked they had only one and I was a pain in the ass until they sold it to me. Funny thing is nobody had pre-orderd the copy. So if somebody can explain the hole deal with this please be my guest. Anyways its worth getting cause the Theater Disc is Awesome but I have seen it sell on EBAY from $90 to $130 and thats a lot but hey its your choice.

ONE OF THE TOP 10 GAMES on the PS2(my opinion)

i love this series, and subsistence fixes the one problem the series previously had, the camera angle.
the blend between fiction and history in this game is unreal. the few friends of mine who didn't like the previous mgs games got hooked on this one. the extras are really nice too.

Mindless Fun. Incoherent story.

This game is fun if you're looking for something in the stealth genre without any learning curve or depth.

Western audiences that didn't grow up watching Japanese cartoons will find the cut scenes excruciating. They're painfully long and full of redundant exposition. Japanese films tend to emphasize imagery and symbolism, and their audiences will give a pass to plots and character motivations that play fast and loose with logic if they have the former. This game echoes those priorities, which means you have to listen to a lot of exposition to tie the story together, which wouldn't make any sense without some pretty convoluted explanations explanation. (It is still kind of unfeasible, but at least you know what the designers were thinking).

The game play is actually kind of fun. I was at first disappointed because I was expecting something a lot more realistic and cerebral. This game is neither, and if you're like me, I probably wouldn't recommend it to you. But I think it does succeed in being the kind of game it set out to be. At least the actual game play does, even if the story is an unmitigated mess.

SUBSISTENCE!!!!!!!

I have to say, MGS3S is one of the best games in da world. if some of u peeps dont know dis is an updated version of da original MGS3 Snake Eater.......wit a bunch of exclusive content added to dis game. Da story goes back way before Solid SNake and begins wit his biological father Naked Snake @k@ Big Boss. Naked Snake has to go on a mission to save a scientist named Sokolav n also destroy a massive nuclear weapon (Metal Gear) code named Shagohad. Dis Game is a stealth game but to be honest dis game isn't really focused on da stealth mo of the action involved wit slight stealthiness. But all of u will find out later wen u actually play da game. Now da things added to dis version of da game are.
-THIRD PERSON CAMERA- da camera view has always been a problem in da Mgs series but now da camera has been revamped n better stay dis way.
-ONLINE MODE- DA WHOLE Reason why u will be playin subsistence.....da online play is extremely addicting n really fun to play.It includes Deathmatch (team also), rescue n capture missions n other stuff like dat. o yea ITS FREE!!!!
-SECRET THEATER- 20 hilarious cutscenes dat were remade stright from da game.
-SNAKE VS MONKEY- if any of u liked Snake vs Monkey well woopdidoo dey added 2 mo levels.
-ORIGINAL METAL GEAR GAMES- Yes Metal Gear n Metal Gear 2 from da MSX have been put into dis game n fans will be excited about dis new feature.
- NEW CAMOFLAUGES- Yea dey added new Camos n face paints. isn't dat special.
all I have to say is dat dis is definetly a game everybody should play n if u don't have it get it cuz u won't get dissapointed!!!

Boring, not much action, crawling through grass is dumb

The graphics are okay, but sub-par compared to other FPS shooters on the PS2.

This game is over rated. Crawling through grass and avoiding enemies is boring and hard. Whenever the enemy sees you, which happens MANY times, you have to restart from your last save; I had to save the game every 5 minutes.
I just wanted to shoot the enemy instead of hiding, but I guess the point of this game is to NOT use your guns...which is stupid.

Save 30 bucks and buy God of War 1 or 2.

Best stealth game alive

this is the best stealth game so far it beats all the other ones big time. the online is really fun the but the only bad thing online is those glitchers but u they will probably get kicked out of the game inless the comment says glitchers aloud. this mgs is the same as snake eater but it has mgs1 and mgs2 the original one. plus they got new levels of snake Vs. monkey and u can unlock the duel mode witch is were u face boss the original way or a special way were u have low ammo or something. plus they got demo theater mode on disk one its all the videos u saw while playing and on disk to its funny ones. on this game u get cent to the jungle to rescue sokolov but then sokolov gets taken and u have to go rescue him and destroy this massive tank. there is 8 bosses including the tank u have to destroy. u have to out smart ur enemys by laning down traps or knocking on the wall so they come to u then u grap then crack there neck or slit there throut what ever u wanna do the the enemy. but u have to fight all the cobras the people with special abilitis escape out of jail dress to look like a scientis fighter or maintence u got eat what ever u check u got to heal the wounds u get like burns cuts broken bones and u got to watch out for traps planted on the ground and when u beat the game if u do it with out being seen or something u get items for the next game u play but u have to put load game then puch the one u beat then u will play a new game with same comaflauge face paint and the new weapons u get. so go get it and have alot of FUN

A Must-Have For any MGS Series Fan

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 3

This latest installment of the Metal Gear series is an amazing leap with its addition of multiplayer and is a must-have for any serious fan of the series.

MGS: Subsistence comes in two disks:

Disc 1, labeled Subsistence, contains the full game of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, with a few additions to gameplay, including Eurpoean Extreme mode (where being sighted results in game over) and a new Third Person camera option to allow the player full rotation of the camera.

Disc 2, labeled Persistence, contains most of the new features of the game, including Online Mode, the main reason to get this game if you have the PS2 Network Adaptor (or the slim PS2). Also on this disk is Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, original games released only in Japan in 1987 and 1990 (respectively) on the MSX console. There is also an enhanced form of the Snake vs. Monkey mode found on the original, with more missions and (very funny) cutscenes.

Online Play is an amazing leap in the series, with any person familiar with the MGS control scheme able to jump right in to the battle. All the gametypes are easy to understand, including:

Sneaking Mode: Snake vs. Others, Snake must capture a microchip.

Capture Mode: 2 Teams fight for a frog and holding it for 20 seconds at their base.

Protect Mode: 1 Team protects a duck, while the other team tries to steal it and bring it back to their base.

Team Deathmatch: 2 Teams in an all-out brawl.

Deathmatch: Pure death.

Also in online play, the Third Person camera comes especially in handy to see the field around you. As soldiers, you get your choice of a variety of weaponry, and can find stronger ones in the field. Familiar items (such as the girlie book) come into play to stop other players in their tracks. Players also can use their radio, in the form of a headset, if available, or in a set of premade radio commands sufficent enough to communicate important messages to your teammates quickly just by pressing select and two directional buttons.

In the midst of battle, you will find teams based on familiar in-game factions, such as Ocelot's group (with a randomly chosen Ocelot on the team), and Colonel Raidenovich with accompanying soldiers.

I highly recommend this game to any fan of the Metal Gear Solid series and can be treated as a complete replacement of the original, and with a cost of only $30, the game couldn't be any better.
