Overall, very good game. Not disappointing but it has several opportunities for enhancements. The level of difficulty is very VERY low when compared to previous medals of honors. Nice interaction with the environment (you can shoot a light bulb and it will break) but is not the same when attacking the enemy (you can not destroy visibly fragile wood boxes behind which Germans are hiding, etc). You definitely have to play this game if you are a medal of honor fanatic but i don't believe it will be your favorite. at least it was not my favorite medal of honor game.

This game is not worth the cost of buying nor the time to play. Disappointment is not a strong enough term to describe this game.

This game was very challenging, and rewarding although after reading the previous reviews i had my doubts. When i actually started playing this game, i found that it has a lot of fun and exciting as well as challenging regarding the amount of strategy involved for the player. I don't agree with some of the other reviews at all. I am a MOH veteran you could say, and have played all of the games, even the PS1 games, that said, this game was very fun. If you like great graphics, strategy and being in the middle of the WWII theater, get this game. This game does differ from MOH European Assault, in that you don't have the option to resore health for your fellow soldiers, but it doesn't matter to me, it definitely kept my interest.
A decent game

I love the Medal of Honor series, and generally the games are great. I have to admit, it seems like EA games is getting tired of its prodigy. The game has some fun game play, and has some nice added features. I've always wanted to know why a soldier in combat wouldn't run a lot more. Finally it's in this game. You can run! Also, you can peer around objects to shoot or throw grenades. Finally you don't have to expose your characters body to take a shot. The music is rehashed from earlier games and there is no story. I played right through this game on normal difficulty without any problems. The "Sniper" level at the end was the hardest level. On two levels you parachute into combat, and that's kind of cool, but your landing area is quite confined.
You will have to be focused.

This game which likely will be the last MOH for PS2 tests your endurance. Unlike the predecessors there are very long missions with much fighting to get to a checkpoint. As with most games although it auto-saves, if you can not complete a mission(turn of the console), you will start from the beginning of the mission. The action is as good as the others. No need for hand to hand combat as you have plenty of room. Limited weapons option however. Worthy of the MOH legacy.
Tons o' fun while it lasts!

Having owned MOH: European Assault, and deciding it was a mixed bag, I was a bit reluctant to buy this game. Having read the reviews on this site as well as other internet reviews, I finally decided it would be worth it for a casual gameplayer like me.
It was definitely worth the buy. This game gives you a much bigger adrenaline rush than European Assault, with much more close-combat infantry fighting along with one very fun sniper level near the end which is probably the most challenging level of the game. While I thought that Euro Assault was too a bit too free-roaming and didn't have enough checkpoints, this new game not only has a perfectly-linear objective setup (just like Frontline), but also has user-friendly save points at the end of every major skirmish. On Euro Assault I became incredibly frustrated with that blasted "Medkit" and "Revive" system (as well as the boneheaded squadron members that you had to control); but on this game, EA made the wise decision to cut the crap and make a simpler game with bursts of energy that will give you a massive adrenaline rush.
There are a few shortcomings--for example, the game can be beaten in only about three-and-a-half hours on the easiest level, and there only about a dozen short missions in the entire game. The guns are all the same as in the previous game (except they look better, which is always a plus), so don't expect any innovations in fighting techniques.
Don't get me wrong, though. This is a much better game than the horribly-flawed European Assault, and the speed and joyful simplicity of the gameplay makes this one of the most entertaining games I've played in a while. I just wish it was longer.
Underrated MOH Game

I own and have recently played all four Medal of Honor games for the PS2, including this one. Unlike most reviewers here, or online reviews in general, I believe Vanguard is tied for first place in the series. I would give it an equal rating to European Assault and rank it ahead of Frontline and Rising Sun, in that order.
With Vanguard, as with European Assault, you can raise your weapon and aim through your sights, which makes a big difference for accuracy. You also have the ability to sprint for short periods of time, which helps quite a bit in the later levels. The game isn't terribly long, with only four separate levels, but each level is fairly lengthy. The graphics aren't very polished on the first level, but after that they improve quite a bit. There are a couple of opening scenes in the last two levels that feature some of the best graphics in the whole series. You jump out of a plane and can look all around you and see parachutes and planes everywhere. These graphics are definitely a step up from the first two games in the series.
I wonder if some of the negative reviewers bothered to play past the first level, which is admittedly pretty poor. If you base your impression of Vanguard on the first level, it would probably only be worth one or two stars, but if you persevere, I believe you'll have a satisfying MOH experience. While much less polished looking than Call of Duty: Big Red One or Call of Duty 3 for the PS2, Vanguard is still one of the better WWII shooters for the PS2. If this exact game had been introduced in 2001 in place of MOH: Frontline it would also have gotten rave reviews.
GOOD GAME IN THE MEDAL OF HONOR SERIES.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS GAME. IT'S ONE OF THE BETTER IN THE SERIES. DID NOT CARE THAT MUCH FOR EUROPEAN ASSAULT. GOOD GRAPHICS, GOOD REPLAY VALUE. I JUST FOUND THE GAME WAS TOO SHORT. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE LEVELS. GOOD GAME OVERALL WITHOUT SEEING BLOOD AND GORE IN OTHER GAMES OF THIS KIND. WWII GAMES I HAVE THE MOST FUN PLAYING.
the game sucks

Okay the first thing i noticed with this game is there is hardly any lighting effect even when i adjusted it. the tank you first encounter looks like its made out of card board from what i could see of it. (due to lighting.) The AI is retarded most of the enemys run into walls. and keep running. the first medal of honor for playstation 1 is better than this peice of garbage. and the american M1 garand your allies have is semi automatic but they work it like a bolt action rifle. thats what the Germans use. And thats if your lucky to even get them to shoot back at the enemy. The last thing i noticed was the phisycs are broken. I shot this german and he floats into the air and disapeers WTF! and my friend who also played this game experianced the same thing. and this was a brand new game i didn't rent it. i bought it from walmart. and after that i sold it to gamestop for 20$. If you still want to play this pitiful excuse for a game rent it don't buy it. either way in my oppinion its not even worth your time or money for that matter.
