Legend of Kay rocks!

Legend of Kay is a nice martial arts adventures. It reminds me of the Zelda games from Nintendo. On the Playstation 2 you wont find any better games of this genre.

The graphics are not the best of the PS2 but they look so sweet. Everything is designed very carefully.

The soundtrack is orchestral and sounds asian. The atmosphere is great and only the voice acting is bad.

The animations are really cool and the gameplay is awesome.

This game is also good for kids.

Good game, not enough advertising!

INTRO.
First of all, I regret that this game did not have a lot of publicity. 2 reviews! That's all it has currently. It's really too bad, because this game has spunk and personality. It revoloves around a world of animals: the cats, frogs, rabbits, pandas and the 'bad' animals...the rats and gorillas. You play as Kay, a young cat who hungers for adventure and wants to liberate his people from the rats and gorillas.

GAMEPLAY
This game is at least decent in the area of graphics. Most things and places are quite detailed and the people (while nothing special) at least move around and look ok. Kay moves nicely and fights well. There are no loading times in this game, either. The music is also quite decent, but sometimes it will make you want to mute the volume. The voiceovers are quite nicely done, everyone sounds like their supposed to, as far as things go. A warning: Kay may severly annoy you. It seems he has limited voice capabilities and can only sound sassy, annoyed or angry. He perfectly fits the 'hero' type character, but he may give you a headache. The fighting system is good, and Kay's system of combos and weapon switches do it justice. However, I dislike the way that if an enemy has armor, Kay has to hit it several times to get rid of the armor before it can die. It hinders you in battle if you constantly have to be knocking off helmets and whacking away at gauntlets.

PROS & CONS
Pros:
1. Nice fighting system
2. Good graphics
3. Decent voiceovers
4. No loading times
5. Music is easy to tolerate

Cons:
1. Kay is annoying after a while of listening to his backtalk.
2. Enemies with armor are hard to kill.
3. If you don't find good weapons, you'll die later on in the game. I had to restart a game because I never found the two other swords and kept losing to enemies.

OVERALL
Give it a try! It is really a good game at heart, and deserves more of a chance than it actually got.

Very nice game!

Legend of Kay is a really sweet game. As a cat (and cats are awesome)you play as a sort of ninja. There also rabbits, frogs and pandas, and a fox which are all "good guys." As enemies you face Rats (with and without armour, some throwing bombs), Gorillas (with and without armour, they have swords, hammer-like weapons, and a double sword), Crocodiles (with/without armour, they use blades which can also be thrown as a boomerang), Turtles (they use sais), Bears (with/without armour), bugs, hornets, bats, spiders, man-eating plants, fish, stone guards, crabs, seagulls.

There are 13 places in the game where you have to fight a boss.
Boarax, a boar (you fight him twice)
Armoured Bear (more of a mini boss)
Tor Chi, the Dragon (you fight him three times, he is more of a mini boss)
Jia-Gu the Giant Turtle
Qian Bei the Ancestor (a stone tiger)
The Dreaded Chei Ni (a lochness type sea creature)
Tak, the King of Rats
Shun, the Empereror of the Gorillas
Mutant Shun
Mutant Gorilla

You have three weapons; a samurai sword, claws (that remind me of wolverine's from X-men), and a huge hammer. The claws are fastest, but weakest. The hammer is the strongest, but slowest. The sword is somewhere in the middle, and is my favorite weapon. The claws are also cool because you can use them while swimming. The sword can be used for a really strong magic attack, and the hammer can be used to break holes in the floor to access secret passages.

At the biggining in the game (the first level) Kay's master, a fox, teachers most of Kay's moves which once learned, can be used with all three weapons. There are one or two moves that Kay can do that the master does not teach. There is also a move where you can roll around unsuspecting enemies, but there is never an oportunity in the gmae to actually sneak up on enemie, so that move is not really used.

Kay can hold a maximum of 5 items. These can be: Bomb (can blow holes in walls aswell as hurt enemies), Flash Bomb (temporarily stuns enemies), Health Potion (fills up Kay's health meter), Magic Potion (fills up kay's magic meter, you need 5 magic points for a magic attack), Beserk Potion (temporarily strengthens Kay's attacks), Bottle of Hornets (releases hornets which attack enemies), and Demon Potions (lets you see demon gates, which you can go through and collect goodies).

Kay can also wear armour. There are 3 types: Green, Red, and Black. They take 5, 10, or 15 damage points respectively. The Black armour makes Kay look like a really cool ninja.

In the game there are merchants from which you can buy all the itmes listed above aswell as armour. They also sell health and Magic Containers which give you one overall magic or health point. Sometimes, the merchants sell weapon upgrades. For each of the three weapons there are two up grades. The sword upgrades are found in the game, but they are really easy to find, so that shouldn't be a problem. The claw upgrades can bothe be purchased, although one can be found in the game as well. That one is also very easy to find. One of the hammer upgrades is found in the game, but you need it to get through the level, so you basically get that one automatically. The other hammer upgrade can be purchased. This one makes the hammer look like a double bladed axe.

There are also mini games (optional) and races in the game. There are two types of races. There are holey hoops, where you ride a bour and have to steer him though a variety of hoops on a set course in a certain amount of time. the other is a normal race where you ride a boar, wolf, dragon or boat and have to pass numerous checkpoints on a set track in a certain amount of time. It gets tricky because spiders will atack you during races later on, and in the boat race there are mines in the water. Also, in the dragon race there is a 3D aspect as you can also go up and down. You can also breath fire to destroy bombs blocking the checkpoints.

Tha graphics are decent. Not the best ever made but pretty nice. The music in the game is fantastic. It is the BEST. All the characters sound pretto good except Kay. When I bought the game I thought kay would sound like a mature teenager/young adult. With a deeper voice. This is not the case. he sounds like a whiney 10 year old kid. his voice can really get annoying sometimes. The game is also pretty easy. The last boss can be a little challenging, but all the others are pretty easy.

All in all I highly recommend this game. It is really cool.

My child really enjoys the graphics and interaction available with this game. It is both challenging and entertaining and appropriate for school aged children and above.
