Not what I would expect

I have played Mankind for a year now.

The game is set in a universe of well over a thousand planets (most likely much more). There are two problems with this ame.

One, there is no tech support Two, the servers are often down

When I say no tech support, I mean there is NONE. You can try to e-mail them, but the only response you get is in garbled English, and I have yet to get a problm solved by them without a "reinstall the game and try again" message.

What you do get is a game that is more addictive than you can imagine. You must speak with other players before you buy. You can look around for forums to do so.

ManKind, the 2nd World

I really enjoyed this game, and the doubters of this game from what I have gather, could not figure it out, and those who enjoyed has it figured, and, yes it is true, it will take time to master.

My advice to everyone is to spend the money to buy game so that you can have helpful booklet, to help coach you threw, I got the version from online, which made it very difficult game to learn, and even now that I have been playing for 4 weeks I would still like to have the booklet, (that I am about to purchase game to get)

*Bottom Line* If you enjoyed WarCraft, and all the different versions of Command & Conquer, then this is the game for you, Building, Battles, Research, Resources, and when your ready to settle down from game if you can (very addictive) it keeps playing, real time, always running, when you sleep the game is still playing, nothing to save because it never stops, and if you are able to join a Guild, or Pack, I tell you it is endless, Get It Now.

I only wish I had got it when it started.

Thanks, and I am out.

Mankind - Always down for updates

Mankind IS a pretty good game, when it is up and running. This unfortunately is not often enough. The company who runs the game, called Vibes, seems to be full of poor programmers and has a generally lousy technical support staff. The game involves a lot of clicking of the mouse and is constantly being patched which causes the servers to be up and down for weeks at a time. For all my negativve comments here though, I will admit I am addicted. Not sure if I will stay this way, as they have just released a new version of the game which has TOTALLY changed the entire game. The new version has been out a week, unfortunately, the servers have been down so I cannot say if it is any good. What I can say is that they reduced my credits from 2 Billion to 20 million (took me a year to earn 2 Billion) and now my cities are dying because I have 10 and the new limit is 5 and I can't get on long enough to destroy the spare ones.

The Draw and the Drawback

The Draw:

It is a mix of Sim City, Command and Conquer, and Civilization (sort of) all online and in 3D! It has it all, Resource managment, wars, alliances, trading, Research and Development, the works. In my opinion this game could have very well swept the market in the RTS Department.

The Drawback:

Enter Vibes...

Here is a company that almost goes out of it's way to show you how much they don't care. Well, I guess that might be an assumption on my part, but it's either that or they are the most ignorant bunch of developers to ever enter the online market!

When I have problems not getting into the game, (which is almost always) I send email to the tech support department giving a detailed account of the error messages I had recieved along with the steps it took to get to that point.

3 days later (on average) I get a "try not running any other program at the same time" email. I send in an email stating I wasn't... I get no response!

Now, the problem with this is... they know very well that EVERYONE ELSE has the same problem and they claim no responsability. It's all me or my connection. :/

I have paid for a years subscription... The year is almost up... and out of the near 12 months I paid for, I was able to play for about 5 of them. Mind you, I am a game junkie and if I were able to get on and play, I would!

Summary:

I have to say that I loved this game... When it worked... Which was almost never!

Don't get it. You will regret it. There is nothing more frustrating than haveing a game that you love, but aren't able to play. Trust me!

I dont think this game needs more than one word to describe...but which? useless? boring? disappointing? Anyway, it works not, requires far too many clicks and is constantly downgraded by the company (Vibes). Features listed on the box have never appeared ingame and never will... The company is notorious for its arrogance and inefficiency... I have strongly advised my friends to look and wait for other games or for Mankind 2 to be released ...if ever. ...

mankind

I've played this game for just over a year an a half. The other reviews are right for the most part. Yes there is an awful lot of mouse clicking in this game, but this is to be expected with a game as complex as this. Is it boring, yes & no, it's more monotinous than boring. Mankind is as fun or dull as you make it!. The main theme here is construction, to research you have to build a lab(s), to get minerals you have to build mine(s),..etc. But what the others have not said is that as a player in MK, you get to meet many fun & interesting people from all over the world! For instance, i have met players from Norway, portigul, Italy, spain, germany...and you also can get to know these players as well. This is not just a game, it's almost an RPG in setup. I would hope that customers browsing through will try MK, if not for the graphics, which are very good, but to meet other people they would not have met otherwise

First ever persistent universe

This game is the first ever really MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game), in UO or EQ you've got seperate servers. Here there is one Universe with 100 000 players. Furthermore the world is persistent, you can build hundreds of ships, stations. Definitly there is no other games like that and it's the first one and the most technicaly advanced.

Unfortunately NOT that good

It is unfortunate that this title does not live up to its expectations. While initially the gameplay is rather SIMCITY'ish, it quickly dulls as you realize that the MULTITUDE of clicks necessary to accomplish any task will leave you with carpal tunnel syndrome. Coupled with the poor communications, and the fact there is little or no multiplayer interaction, UNLESS you accidentally stumble upon somone. Places this game at the bottom of the heap. MAYBE the creators will start to listen to their players and change the gameplay, ONLY THEN, will this game RESURRECT itself.

Wait a little while

Mankind seems to have a pretty good game at it's core. The problem is that the good part of the game is having trouble escaping it's troubles. I've been playing for a while (> 1 year), and while I sort of enjoy it, it is a constant struggle. I'd say give it 3-4 months; It should be a little better by then

Up in the air

A great game idea. Unfortunatly poorly executed, slow support, no real manual.

If Vibes make an effort, it is salvageable.

Not recommended for the novice player.

Once they take the bugs out of the new version, a nice game. Once they actually write a manual, a great game.
