I cannot use this game because it will not save. When I contacted the company that makes the game, they said they would send me out a new one. They have never sent me out a new one. I have contacted them several times and have given them plenty of time to send me a new copy, 6 months enough time. I will never buy from the makers of this game again. Horrible customer service. I give this game no stars.
progressively boring but still a decent game

I greatly enjoyed the jak trilogy but this game kinda diverts from its originality. The racing parts in the first 3 games are fun if they are only required for missions or as a side quest. Jak X is all about racing and it gets progressively boring each time you take on a racing challenge (ie. same setting, basically almost the same racers, same weapons). With the exception of the level of difficulty and different racing vehicles, this game still has a good storyline. If you like a game that is all racing, I suggest this game.
Fun Kart Racer

This review was written by James Shea, my son.
A continuation and spin-off of the Jak and Daxter series, "Jak X: Combat Racing" is similar in method to Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing - a car-based version of a platformer game.
There is, however, a plot to the game, unlike some other spin-off games. Jak and his friends from Jak 2 and 3 are gathered to read the will for Krew, the now-deceased crime lord from Jak 2. From the grave (represented by a holographic message), Krew poisons all present with a "special vintage" of wine that serves as his funeral toast, and then says the antidote will be given to them by one of his associates if they win the city championship. After this, there are many twists as the various racers go through the championship mode.
The gameplay is based on the driving in Jak 3. Many of the controls should be familiar to players of that game. Like most spin-off driving games, there are weapons to be collected such as mines, missiles, and machine guns, and driving-based bonuses like turbo boosts and power sliding. The cars handle decently, and control is for the most part acceptable.
There are many upgrades for the cars, as well; these change the handling and physical appearance of the cars. For the most part the cars themselves have a rough, Mad Max style appearance, with a pretty good variety of car types. There are different colors and accessories available.
The graphics are about as good as the later Jak games, and there are cutscenes to illustrate the game's storyline. The audio is, again, the same as the Jak games. There's a fairly nice consistency; despite its racer status, it still feels like part of the total series.
Overall, this could've been a lot worse. It wasn't exceptional, by any means, but for a "kart racer" spinoff, this could've been a lot less well done. The fact that it was tied into the real story was also a nice bonus. But, mainly, it's so generically done that there isn't any reason to recommend or not recommend it.
Rating: 7/10.

Do not buy this game! It has a saving glitch that may make your memory card completely unusable. I bought this game, was effected by the saving glitch, which I didn't know about, & ruined a $30 memory card. Google "Jak X: Combat Racing save problem". It can also corrupt all other data on your card. This game should not be sold & be recalled.
Heck of a lot of fun! So much to do tho it's almost annoying!

Any of us who own video games know that there are some that never get played, and others that sometimes get played, and some that get played alot. This is one of the games that gets played in our house alot, by the entire family!
Most of the single player games don't get played much in our house. Most everyone enjoys playing games where they can play each other (we all have an extreme tendency to get bored with single player games). We bought Jack X first because you can have 2 players, second because it ws racing, and third because you can shoot at each other while racing which sounded like a hoot. Sure enough, it is a blast, and we all enjoy it!
The only thing I DO NOT like about the game is that there are so many things you can do(such as in multi-player mode there are like 10 or 12 different games you can play) and I have a hard time remembering which is which. The downside isn't that there are so many choices, but that you have to always go back to the book to figure out which is which because no where in the game, that we have found, does it give you a brief description of what each one is. Therefore, until you memorize this game, you DEFINITELY need the book!!! Thank goodness we bought ours new so it came with a book!!! Without the book, you'd have no clue as to what you were supposed to do on some of the various games. They really should have included a brief description for each as you scroll through them.. it would have made life SOOOOO much simpler!!!!
Other than that one downfall, this game is great. This is one of the very FEW games that EVERYONE in our house enjoys, from the youngest daughter up to and even including my wife.
Where did this come from?

I like this game, but this game is mainly for those of you that like racing games as well as rpgs.
After Jak and Daxter, Jak 2, and Jak 3, I have no idea where this game came from. A racing game thrown into an rpg series? Unlike me, most rpg/Jak players (at least everyone that I know) don't like racing games all that much so Jak X seemed a little strange to me. The story doesn't suit the type of game very well (racing with a cutscene thrown in here and there?), but overall it is a good game.
One thing I like is the weapons. I prefer combat racing over regular racing, so guns and weapons make this game more enjoyable. There is also a large range of games aside from circuit races. Games such as sport hunt, artifact race (like in Jak 3), deathrace, deathmatch, and rush hour can be played as well.
The online/multiplayer is fun, but when you play multiplayer, the stats of the cars go down to what they were when you first got them. All that upgrading is useless for online play. Not the best online game, but still fun.
All in all, Jak X is a good game, but not my favorite or what I would expect from the Jak series.

i was really disapointed with this game becuase you cant do much ivolving a storyline and it isnt as fun as most jak games. it is not that fun if your into complex fighting games like the jak series.it is confusing and hard to figure out or play. you have to pick up your weapons as you go and they dont even fire when you press the shoot butten. instead they fire at random times and always miss the target. the weapons come in little paks that look just like the health paks, boost pakes and paks that dont even do anything and waste your time. it is almost impossible to find out were to go and what to do. and when youy find a logical place to go it wont let you and you have to risk blowing up or falling behind trying to find the right path.the game has some good parts to it like when you blow the crap out of a competetor or get blown up since the crashes are very fu to watch and look cool and realistic. i really didnt like this game all that much and was disapointed in the new game in this awsome series. i dont recomend this game and wont ever buy it. if you want a cool racing game were you can smash opponents, i suggest midnight club, burnout or mario kart ds.

The game is great. It picked up nicely from Jak3. The graphics is great, the story is great, the voice overs are great. 5/5, HOWEVER, it doesn't really have great gamplay value. It's much more enjoyable to play online because it'll end up feeling like a new game each time you join a lobby. Playing online can be addicting.

I am NOT a racing fan. But i am a HUGE Jak fan, and this game is very fun and has a lot of bonuses and surprises. This will not make sense if you haven't beaten all the other Jak games, for both character, romance, and driving practice reasons. People who were missing eco from Jak 1, it's back!!!! Green Eco for health; blue eco for turbo juice; yellow eco to shoot various grenades, guns, and missiles; red eco to drop mines, shooting stations, and have missiles coming for you blocked; finally when you destroy a car it will give you dark eco. Collect enough and your weapons will be more powerful.Even though it seems like Razer and UR-86 are the key villains(Razer is voiced by the same guy who voiced Erol) the real enemy is Mezo AND someone else. Be sure to know what to buy in the secrets shop, as some are simple accesories but others allow you to play as Daxter in co-op mode. Oh, and even though its obvious, racing points only continue the game when Jak gets them. Otherwise it doesn't matter.
