I am not sure if you all want to buy this or not. I know that I enjoy King's Quest and that you probably do too. But before you buy this from Vivendi consider this: Vivendi has canceled a fan project KQIX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining. I am not sure if you have heard about it but PLEASE look at this page before buying this product. www.kqix.com I know that I love the King's Quest series but I do not know if you want to buy this because of what they have done. PLEASE visit this page: www.kqix.com for more information. I don't know what kind of scheme they have but there is definitely something wrong with them releasing this and closing the project down. MILLIONS of fans are devestated and there was a production crew of over 40 people, a 1,000+ page script and they (Phoenix Freeware Online) has been working on this for 4 years. Once again, PLEASE look at this page: www.kqix.com before looking at this project, you may change your mind.
Thank you.
PLease help the KQIX project.

I am very saddened that the members of the former FAN-GAME King's Quest IX, are taking out their frustrations on this forum instead of dealing with the company itself. Vivendi protected its copyright as it has the full right to do, by cancelling a fan created game. Once again, the FAN-GAME KQIX has nothing to do with the above complilation.
I, for one, am thrilled to see that Vivendi has decided to re-release the old Sierra Classics for XP. I can't wait!
It's a shame, though

One would think that Vivendi would applaud the production of KQIX, a game that doubtless would ensnare even more KQ fans, generating a whole new population of gamers who never had the chance to play KQI-VIII (or at least the first few). Instead they shut down the production within a few months of completion of a game that was poses no threat nor competition to their company whatsoever. For shame, Vivendi. Kudos to KQIX producers, however, for being gracious about it and still advocating support of Vivendi. I would be tempted to buy these games if I had any idea about the specs -- are these updated versions? Why are there no mac versions available? What KQ's does the compilation comprise? I'm pleased to see that the KQ and SQ series are not going to fade into oblivion, but wish that Vivendi had exhibited great deal more grace in their revival.

So yeah, I was a little disappointed that KQIX is no more...but why stop buying the games? We're probably better off supporting Vivendi to show them how big the fan base for Kings Quest really is. Maybe then We'll get an official KQIX and everyone can be happy...
Has anyone heard what this compilation has in it?
Return of a classic series

The KQ series continues to represent the best of gaming on many levels. Modern game companies have, for whatever reason, turned away from this particular genre in favor of hack-and-slash action games. There is much here for avid gamers of all ages, however. In spite of what continues to dominate the current video game market, a large fan base still prefers these sorts of games, as evidenced by their loyal following. Older versions of single episodes of KQ sell for outrageous sums on internet marketplaces, and are not always compatible with modern machines. It's wonderful to see the return of this series in a format compatible with newer computers, so that a new generation of gamers may discover and enjoy these classics. If you enjoy games with believable heroes, inventive and challenging puzzles, captivating story-lines, unexpected plot twists, complex character interaction, beautiful music, high re-playability, and tremendous historic value in the gaming world, that are visually pleasing, then this is one compilation you won't want to pass up.

"I am very saddened that the members of the former FAN-GAME King's Quest IX, are taking out their frustrations on this forum instead of dealing with the company itself." I just want to point out that the Unofficial KQIX TEAM is NOT taking their frustrations out on Vivendi. Many of the fans are upset that the game has been shut down, and quite a few of them are threatening to boycott Vivendi. I, myself, am a fan and, while I'm upset, I understand that VU was protecting themselves as a company. Will I buy the compilation? I don't know. I'm a graduate student with limited funds...plus, I don't want to buy it unless I know KQV and VI will work without DosBox (I STILL haven't figured out how to get it to work...)

For those of you that enjoy adventure games and haven't yet played all of the King's Quest games, you should. The King's Quest games are really quite excellent. And as far as adventure games go, this is the series that started it all.
As for KQIX, I was also dissapointed to hear that it was forced to shutdown. However, I did discover a group that is trying to save it. You can find them at: savekqix [dot] org

I was just wondering if anyone has purchased this yet. Does it include KQ1-8?, or is it just an updated rerelease of KQ1-6?
