My daughter installed it on the brand new Dell we bought, complete with high- end graphics card, mega memory and Windows Vista. Purchased the computer specifically for this and other programs like it that my 4 year old Dell is not equipped to handle. It installed fine and she loved it. The next day she tried to play it and could not find it anywhere on the computer - the short cut was gone, it wasn't on the program list, and wasn't available on the control panel - uninstall screen. We had not done anything on the computer between the time she stopped playing and the time she tried to open it up again. We put the disk in to re-install it, clicked on the Install button, and the screen came up saying it would uninstall all components. We clicked next, it said everything was uninstalled and displayed the Finish button. That was it. We tried this perhaps a dozen times, with the same result. It will not install. It seems to have uninstalled itself when exiting out or shutting down, and will not reinstall. My daughter is very disappointed; she was really looking forward to playing it. It was really cool for the hour that she got to use it. Unable to get any help from Microsoft because the help screen requires the product ID, which can only be gotten from the About screen in the program, which of course you can only access if you can install the program. Will be returning the defective product.

We have tried this game on 2 computers (one a fairly new Dell Laptop) and can get it to download but not open to play. We did get it to play once for about 1 hour, then after that were unable to. We have tried to call Microsoft and not been able to get much help. I read other comments that were similiar so know I am not alone. Anyone out there who was able to fix these problems on yours? If so please email me as my daughter really was looking forward to playing this and is so sad she has been unable too...thanks

Zoo Tycoon 1 is the best game ever. This game is expensive, requires a fancy graphics card (Though i seem to be the only one in the world without one) and a lot of memory. I could not get it to open.I haven't got a clue as to how fun this game is. Do not buy this game unless you are rich enough to buy a graphics card that costs that much.
Will not open!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY

First off let me say that I am a big fan of the original Zoo Tycoon (and expansion packs) and huge animal lover. I figured that this second version of Zoo Tycoon would be wonderful since it is still a ZT game, and it lets you interact with the animals from the guest or zoo keepers view. Well, the graphics are good, however I would have to stop there with listing it's good points. Those of you that played the original games will understand how fun, though sometimes tedious, it was to place a zebra in an exhibit and make sure you have just the right amount of savannah grass, dirt, water, trees, bushes... In this version, one of the first challenges was to place a pair of zebras in a pen. I did that however the pen was grass, and they were happy! Apparently they are not as effected by their surroundings as in the first. The shops and stalls are really just food, beverage and restroom stalls. I don't have any of the "educational" buildings like the aviary, or reptile house and I've been playing for a while. I don't know if the animals ever make noise, but when I am in zookeeper mode and in the pen with the animals they do not make any noises. I recommend seriously considering the purchase of this game and not just a spur of the moment buy like I did. If you want realistic animals, and needs, and sounds stick with the original.

I recently got this game bought for me as a gift. I have played and loved Zoo Tycoon the first edition and in many ways was a little hesitant about how much it could improve but I would like to say I was over all impressed. I have played now for several hours and I have had no problems that others have mentioned. They have improved the graphics a lot and I love being able to create water falls and new terrains. The old ways of having to have enough money for the right land is no longer there. And also you don't have to complete all the beginner levels to go up. Each section has a beginner, normal and hard. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because for me I fine the mouse to sensitive in the game and also end up with paths in places I didn't want. It took me a while to place things and also being able to create hills that my animals didn't get stuck on and then complain about. But over all I would say if you liked the first you will love this as it has got better. And if you like other tycoon type games this is a good one to try especially now at this price.
overall, a good game

I thoroughly enjoyed the first incarnation, and am truly sinking my teeth into this one as well; really well-done game.
In particular, I'm thrilled that I don't have to search for the one hunk of 'trampled' terrain that makes sensitive animals unhappy, or play 'guess the magic incarnation' for terrain. This is much more fun, and although the critters are more 'cartoony' overall the game is much more solid.
I'm not thrilled that they're taking a page from the sims and releasing bits and parts that should have been incorporated into the game from the beginning. There's making a profit on your product, and then there's nickle and dime-ing your fan base.
Overall I'm pleased, but it would have been nice to not have to shell out $20 for upgrades to a $40 game, when...really.. they should have been in the release to begin with.
Oh - and the reviewer that tagged this 'defective by design' ? Yeah - it's not their fault you're not bright enough to work a computer. Spewing venom all over your review (and highlighting your ignorance) isn't the way to go about this. It's not them... it's you.
My 9-year old daughter loves it!

I keep hearing my 6-year old asking who's pregnant again when the kids are playing this game. Keeps them entertained for hours.
