As far as Gundam games go....There is no other

This game promises to blow the previous PS2 releases away. Aside from space duels, tons of suits from the 0079 Era, fluent control, there is the fact that the game is developed by Capcom which gives it an edge over other Bandai games. This was released on Saturn in Japan and the DX version on PS2. The ultimate Gundam fighting game is on its way...

VERY CHALLENGING!

this game is your basic arcade type space shoot-em up game.
it starts off with a familiar premise for whichever side you choose(fed or zeon). it starts off that your side is losing the war and its up to you to turn the tide. most of the battles are pretty easy early on, but after a while it becomes pretty evident why your side is losing.enemy AI is very clever and you will often be attacked from all sides.there is about 100 different missions for each side so that adds some replay value, but most are just your basic search and destroy mission. there are also between 25 and 40 different mobile suits and mobile armors that you can play with. overall if your a gundam fan you will love this game because it follows the plotline of the one year war perfectly, and if your not a gundam fan you will like it if your really into shooter/simulation games. that is why I gave this such a high rating.

Thank you very much, mr. Robato.

Where do I begin on federation vs. zeon? Honestly, what have we grown to expect from Bandai and the gundam games? Over and over again we have been dissapointed, big words, little actions. However, alongside 0079 for the Dreamcast, Federation vs. Zeon IS one of the best attempts by the developers to make a sincerly fun game. Being a fan of the genre, and the series, I was able to look past some of the games many shortcumings, and enjoy an emersive glimpse into the world of Gundam. The story mode gives you the choice of playing for either the Federation, or Zeon. This is my favorite feature of the game, and seeing each side has somewhere around 120 missions each, length is not an issue in this game. BUT (and this is a big but) combat is far too easy, even on the hardest level of the game, it feels like playing duck hunt at times, and with certain weapons (most of them) one hit is enough to kill most enemy mobile suits. Wich is a problem, because you begin to get that dreaded game feeling that maybe its because you have 200 times more health than the enemy that your winning. Another problem this game has is the reppitition in the missions. You don't even need the briefings to complete your task, and there are only a few maps. So you find yourself in this cycle: load level, seen it a million times, blast everything there, end level. Not pretty. The multiplayer mode is fun though, and for just twenty bucks, the game is a great addition to your collection if your a gundam fan. Personally, I had some fun with this game, but eventually, the problems become to much, and it just gets boring. I reccomend this game only to people who are diehard fans of gundam, or those who need a fun game to play with friends, but its deffinetly not for everyone

PROS:
Decent graphics
TONS of mobile suits
fun vs mode
LOTS of missions

CONS:
Annoying music (from the original series)
Repetitive
Too easy
Not enough maps.

The Best Gundam Game Yet!

I played Zeonic Front and loved it, due to the fact it was a strategy game. But this game beats them all, and may well be the best Gundam game to date.

It's action is fast paced, and you actually have to fit to defeat an enemy. Instead of the one hit kills, you actually duke it out a bit to defeat anything, including the surroundings.

It has three modes: campaign, versus, and arcade. I love campaign, as it covers the story of the show Mobile Suit Gundam and allows you to be part of the experience. Once you beat both the Zeon and Federation campaigns, a harder mode opens up for campaign, allowing for great replay.

Versus is fun, although you can only have up to 2 human players in total. It allows you to practice and hone your skills. Probably the most enjoyable and used part of the game. Once you defeat certain enemies in Arcade Mode, they become unlocked for Versus Mode. Not to mention that once you beat campaign, opposite sides of mobile suits can be used for the Zeon and Federation. Basically, you will be able to pilot any mobile suit for either side. A very awesome feature.

Arcade Mode is fun, and allows you to rack up high scores and experience the One Year War in 13 missions. This mode can also be played with a friend! I have to admit though this mode has ticked me off several times, because once in a while your enemy is just a little too powerful... I'm trying to become an ace pilot, and remaining relaxed during fights helps a lot, but sometimes bogus shots and cheap shots can make you mad.

Of course, their are options! You can customize your controls, as well as soudn levels, game difficulty, and how much damage is overall caused (allowing for you to either quickjly kill enemies or take a while on them). I think there are more...

A very excellent game, superb graphics and sound...although soem of those sound tracks can get annoying. But hey, that's what putting some techno music on your stereo is for, giving you a great gaming experience. A game you'll come to love and get addicted to, so now I need to sign off and go turn it on!

Best Game OF THe CENTURY!....

This game is the best. You have more challanges and mobile suits than the last 2 gundam games. In ARCADE MODE,you can pick almost everyone in the whole game.Plus you can pick any mobile mobile suits in the game.Whatmakes it easier is that sometimes with one hit, thier finish.Plus you can do very easy combinations with your sword,If you have one.IN versus mode, you and the computer(or partner)can duel it out for fun or revenge! In campaign mode, this is where the fun starts. You can pick zeon or federation. You either start off with the ground type mobile suit or zaku 1.THe more missions you beat, the more mobile suits you'll get.You pick missions from earth and space,as long as it's availible. There are some points in there where it's hard. But I don't mind.I highly reccomend this 4-D game to everyone.

P.S.-Very cool graphics and weapons

Japanese Version is a very good game!

I played the Japanese version and it's the best Gundam game for the PS2. It has very good graphics and fast game play. It has a lot of different mobile suits from Mobile SUit Gundam and some from 8th MS Team, such as Zaku II, Gundam, and some other secret ones that I don't want to say. (Don't want to spoil the surprise!) Overall, the game is very fun and exciting. It's about time Bandai released it in the U.S.

THe Best one Yet

This Gundam Game is the best one yet because you can play in space. also it has tons of mobile suits and most likely it follows the Gundam saga to the dot. some of the mobile suits are the (For the Federation)Gm, Ball, Gundam, Guntank, Guncannon
(For the Zeon)Zaku 1, Zaku 2, Chars Zaku 2, Dom, Rick Dom, Gelgog, z'gok, gogg, gyan, zock. and their will most likely be some Mobile Armors. but from what i know those will be the mobile suits in the game. i hope you buy this one because you will definetly like it even if you aren't a gundam fan. but if you don't buy it you should at least rent it. then you'll know what i mean.

This game is so cool

This game is so awesome! This is the best gundam game yet. Federation vs. Zeon allows to be a Zeon or Federation gundam fighter. In other games you can only be 1. The game is performed by the actual charecters, and has a lot of machines you can pilot. It has a split screen action so you can play with your friends or with a computer. The graphics are great and the controls are good too. There are even 200 missions to play from. It has even one an award from Japan's famous "Famitsu" magazine. If you are a gundam fan or not, you should definitly buy or rent this game.

Another Gundam game falls flat

Everyone who gives this game five stars is doing consumers a disservice. I cannot say enough bad things about this game. I really cannot. Which is a shame, considering the Gundam franchise probably has the greatest video game potential of any TV/Movie franchise. However, Bandai seems to TRY to consistently drop the ball with any Gundam game they make.

Let us start with game play. Fvs.Z harkens back to the days of Atari, bringing back the concept of weapons fire where you can literally walk out of the way of a bullet. I kid you not, you can literally watch a shot come toward you, walk to the side, and a shot will miss. Actually, I have that wrong, the computer walks to the side and you miss, the computer fires, and you get hit. I have actually seen a stream of bullets arc towards me IN FLIGHT to hit me. I have been fired at, scooted to the right, was shot at again, and scooted to the left and was STILL hit but the FIRST shot. Did I mention lasers are the slowest? Yes, a bullet can outrun light in this game. An understanding of physics you couldn't pass off on an elementary student aside, there are other aspects of this game were poor game design rears its ugly head. I don't mind a game that is skillfully challenging; that is, a game were practice and good tactics are required to get ahead, but I hate games which rely on cheap gimmicks to make levels hard. Fvs.Z is one such game. Enemies will suddenly appear right next to you (falling out of the sky -- I'm not kidding, they fall right out of the sky and land next to you, and the first warning you get is when they fire). The game's targeting feature is pathetic; if there are three enemies attacking you, you usually want to target the one closest, but FvsZ typically targets the enemy farthest from you, and usually one that doesn't have line of sight. So, while someone is behind you, you have to hit 'switch target' three or four times before you can fire at said enemy. Wait! It gets even better, as there is a certain time frame in which you can actually shoot at an enemy and hit. What I mean is that you only get one shot at an enemy mobile suit, it gets damaged, then you can't shoot it again for about five seconds (usually until it moves and fires back at you). Essentially this is a game feature trying to enforce turn-based play in a real time game. To further compound an already horrific game, there is usually a two to three second delay between hitting a button and having your mobile suit respond. Now, this might not be bad, if the computer was held to the same standard.

There is even more! The game ports 200+ missions on the back of the box, but this is somewhat misleading as there are only three basic types of mission: kill enemies until time expires, keep something alive, destroy a certain amount of enemies before they destroy you. There are only about a dozen or so different levels you play in, and many of the levels are almost identical, with only a different bitmap making up the horizon, or 2 buildings on one side instead of the other. Add to this that all the levels are quite small, and 200+ missions starts to be rather small. The 3D space levels ported on the back of the box are also misleading, as "space combat", at least FvsZ style, is the same as ground combat but with a star backdrop (well, you CAN end up upside-down, but moving and fighting are identical to ground combat). Another exciting aspect of FvsZ are the missions where you fight named characters from the original Gundam TV show -- these missions entail you running from said characters (I hit one over ten times and couldn't even see a drop in his health; and you can usually only take one or two hits from a TV show character) until time expires, or waiting for a named character from your side to show up so you can watch them fight. Wow. Exciting. Yep. I love playing levels were I do not do anything but run in a circle waiting for time to run out.

Now, if poor game play and sparse levels were not enough, the mobile suit selection leaves a bit to be desired. The Ez8 Gundam from the television show 8th Mobile Suit Team does not make an appearance in the game, although the other mobile suits from the show do. That right there is the biggest crime. Also, no mobile suits from Gundam 0080 make their appearance, nor can you use ANY mobile armors.

Well, after all of this, if you are still interested in the game, don't buy it, rent it first to try it. The mindless game play rip off (but poorly implemented) of Virtual On can be fun for a little while.... Another good reason not to buy it is to deprive Bandai of the money, so maybe they will figure out a poor game with the Gundam name is not a good game.

Best Gundam Game I've Ever Played!

Great game period! The missions to play are great. Although there is not enough federation mobile suits to play as, but the ones that you get are great.
