I don't have a PS2, though there are several games pushing me toward buying one. This game was one at the top of my list though so I thought I would try it with emulation. On my system the game is unplayable, an there seem to be some bugs in pcsx2 that render it less playable even on a high-end system.
Tested on a Lenovo Thinkpad, dual-core 1.6Ghz, ATI video chipset, Gig of ram, etc.
Game that keeps on giving.

This game is great! It has plenty of mini-quest,if you don't finish them all you can play the game again and try to do them all.

Anyone who knows me knows my video game library consists of mostly RPG, strategy, life-simulation and any game that allows you to 'play god'. This game is an excellent blend of role-playing, strategy, puzzels, simulation, and classic turn-base fighting. You get to basically customize your character by who he interacts with and how, what he does in his spare time. How Smooth do you want him? How Smart or Confident? Depending on your level in these areas will depict how much interaction you can have with certain NPCs. Even the in-class lectures and questions are fun (probably because I knew all the answers, they aren't that hard). If you find that the latter sounds boring, don't worry, as they are few and far-between; maybe one or two a game-month, save for Final exams. The after-school clubs you join will determine your strength and skills in using certain personas (monsters you summon for battle). You can also combine your collection of personas to create different ones. Depending on who you choose to be friends with, and what skills you increase with your activities, will unlock different 'species' of persona, ranging from classes of angel (Principalities and Judges to name a few) to nasty-looking monsters, so there are plenty of choices to please anyone and their choice battle strategy.
One thing I really enjoy is that you get to choose when and how ofter you want to venture to Tartarus (enemy's 'castle') to fight and increase your level. Except for the mandatory bosses that show up on the Full Moon of each month. The enemies aren't easy either, providing an increasing challenge throughout gameplay that requires both strength and strategy.
The characters aren't that original in my opinion, but have enough depth to make them interesting and create a desire to form better bonds with them. The voice acting is quite good, and there is a great deal of it which always makes me happy. I don't understand, however, why they chose firing a special gun in the characters' head the summoning ability. It is definately unique and different, rather than a simple conjuring sequence of pretty colors like other games. While not graphic or bloody, it may be a bit disturbing to younger players simply due to the visual act.
One complaint - there isn't enough time given in your day to do several activities. After school lets out you can go one place and do one thing, then you go back to the dorm and have a choice of going to one more location, studying or going to bed early. No biggie though, it only contributes to the difficulty of raising your skills.
Overall, its one of the best RPGs I've played to date and I highly recommend it to any RPG fan and gamer.

This is one of the best rpgs available for the ps2. The plot is engaging the characters are memorable and the difficulty is rewarding but not irritating. It is a nice change from fantasy themed rpgs, hopefully the Megaten series will see continued releases stateside.
Great buy

This is actually a lot better than I thought it was going to be. When I heard school simulator with random dungeons, I thought it would get repetitive. But it's been a really enjoyable experience so far. Plus you get a neat picture book. Really solid PS2 title to pick up if you're into RPG's.

The Dark Hour -- a hidden hour between one day and the next, where normal people rest within their coffins, and the disfigured tower Tartarus stands high above the city. You, a new transfer student, awaken to your power -- Persona -- and fight along the members of SEES to drive off the entities known as Shadows, and uncover the secrets behind the Dark Hour.
Played out in a simulation anime RPG style, Persona 3 is packed with a colorful cast, a wide variety of weapons and abilities, randomized dungeon adventuring, and a storyline that keeps you glued to your controller. With as many as 100 hours of gameplay, and even a new game + feature, Persona 3 is a real gem to add to any RPG gamer's library.
One of the best RPG's I've ever played.

I think the character development is very cool, the different type of gameplay sets the game apart from other games, the cutscenes add to the game not subtract from it, and the fighting is just what you've come to expect from Shin Meg games. By the end of the story you just love the characters, and that happens to very few games for me.
Pretty big surprise

I rented this game not knowing if i was really going to get into this game. I ended up really liking it and one of the better games to come out in a while.
I'm not going to give out the plot but i'll gladly tell you what i thought.
Plot/ storyline: Group of teenagers fighting monsters while going to school? Maybe not all that original but it's presented in a nice way.
Music: This is what really made get into the game, nice catchy techno music with vocals. My favorite would be when the moon's reaching out stars. Great vocal techno track and im sure others might like it.
Characters: While the protagonist is the typical you choose what his personality is like blah blah blah, in this day and age i think that just doesn't cut it. The others are pretty unique( Junpei: the lovable goofball, Yukari: Bit of a bratty but caring girl,Mitsuru: She's like the big sister of the team, Akihiko: At first he seems rather gruff but he's a nice man who's fighting to correct his mistakes of his past.
Dungeons: Oh man, now this disappointed me. You fight in only one place practically and the floors get old real fast. It seemed like a chore to come here and level up for the big boss since it was so bland.
Time: This game runs on a time kind of thing, early morning, afternoon, evening etc. I thought it was pretty cool.
Combat: Well....some of the fights can be rather hard, even if you do level up and upgrade your weapons. You also fight with demon like things called well...personas. While thats also pretty cool i had a hard time trying to find a decent one in terms of stats.
Making friends: Yes since your in high school you have the chance to join clubs( the Kendo team, the music club, Student council etc) doing this will also give you the chance to meet with and become freinds with, like real life on some days you can hang out with them after school or(if you make some female friends) you might even get into a relationship with one of them. If was simple and was fun and some of the friends you get to know have some problems, this of course builds character development. Some of these people you kind of feel sorry for and hope for the best. While some needs some good life advice.
Game time: I believe i only have 4 full moons to go until i complete the game. It still seemed short to me though and your only limited to the city, the one dungeon and thats about it.
Overall: Still a great game to keep you busy with for a few weeks( months if your a busy person who doesn't have time to sit down and play this all day) greatly reccomended.
