Who cares about the venues and the characters? Do you guys really get that much into the game? Whatever happened to just rocking out on 30 new songs, which by the way is how many songs the previous Guitar Hero games have(sure you can "buy" extra songs but who wants to play those crappy songs). I feel like everyone else is just hating to hate. The game is meant for the music not the stupid venues or characters or guitars you can buy. Have some fun, play the songs, and quit your bitching.
Amazing songs Amazing game!!

I'm not sure what the previous reviewers were talking about! I just played this last night and the game is as good, if not better than GH2! The songs bring me back to the good ol days of the 80's and their classic hits!! I can't wait to get home and play this again! Def must have for any GH Fan!!!!!!!!
Great but really a 4.5 out of 5

Being a child of the 80s, I am very happy with this game, as it probably has more songs I really like in it than either of the first two despite having fewer songs. It will definitely be played a lot, as much if not more than the first two installments.
That being said, the game loses 1/2 a star due to what was left out. Since they're charging full price, they could at least have included 40 songs. Bon Jovi, Journey, Van Halen, Metallica, Pat Benatar, and many others could have easily been included but weren't. Also, I'm fine with no extra songs (the ones you buy at "the store"), but all of the characters should have been included at least. The sound seems off on a couple of songs, and how did this game get through the editing process and get the name of one of the songs wrong? -- Sorry Activision and Harmonix, but Poison's song is "Nothin' But a Good Time" not "Ain't Nothing But a Good Time." Call me picky, but that's just sloppy.
Again, the game is a blast and worth buying, but with what was left out, Activision should have charged a little less for it.
A new addition to the series

This game is not a disappointment like most reviewers would have you believe. Honestly, does anyone care what characters you play with or the guitar? Maybe a child would consider these things interesting, but as far as serious guitar hero players are concerned, it doesn't matter. The song selection could have been somewhat better, but it wasn't horrible. The covers, on the other hand, were horrible. If you are a medium/hard player, then this game should be fairly easy for you (except maybe the last set of songs, especially the final encore!). If you play this game on expert, there are certain songs that are a joke, but a definite challenge is presented in some songs. I haven't beat this game on expert yet as I have the other two, but i'm sure it will happen in the near future. Worth 50 bucks? Maybe not. If you are a serious guitar hero fan and don't care about different venues and such, then it is worth it to have new songs to be challenged on. These games are about gameplay and the challenge which this game is perfectly fine on.

I loved it, being a child of the 80's this set has my favorite songs of all of them. Yes, I squeled with delight when I saw Skid Row & Poison (maybe admitting this doesnt look good). Anyway like the game states, it's an 'encore' edition. I wasnt expecting a whole lot of new characters, themes etc., so there is no dissapointment on my end.
Loved a few of the new sets, the rainbow look made me laugh.
Worth the $50.00??? Heck ya!
Nothin but a good time!

I am blown away by all the people that claim to have grown up in the 80s and haven't heard of 90% of these songs. It's just amazing to me. There were only three songs that I failed to recognize; Turning Japanese, Because it's Midnite, and Los Angeles. Every other song was a screaming hit!! For the people that don't know 18 and Life, Metal Health, I Wanna Rock, No One Like You, Seventeen, Round and Round, Nothing But a Good Time, The Warrior, Holy Diver, Hold On Loosely, Shakin, Radar Love, Lonely is the Night, and Play With Me, please go lock yourself in a closet and never come out.
I will agree about not having any unlockable content, but is that stuff really that big of a deal? The unlockable songs are usually crap you never play anyway.
Is $49.99 a fair price? To some it may be, to some it may not. I have paid $49.99 for other games in the past, give it one glance and I'm stuck with it because it wasn't any good. This game WILL guarantee enjoyment time after time, whether you wish to complain about the extra bonus songs and guitar skins that no one is looking at anyway.
My advice, get the game (which you will anyway) and rock out to some of the greatest 80s tunes available.
I gave this game 5 stars for music selection and overall enjoyment. Just remember, it's an encore (follow up game providing your GH collection with more music content). Guitar Hero 3 will provide us all with a bunch of new features! I can't wait!
Great Game! I can't wait for the next one.

As with the first Guitar Hero's this game is a winner.
The fact that it is filled with 80's tunes makes it all the better.
This Game Rocks

I really enjoyed jamming to the 80s. When you pick a fast song and are doing good, your hands catch on fire! This is really fun. I own all of the Guitar Hero PS2 games, and this is one of my favorites!
This game is a ton of fun!

While it's true that this version of Guitar Hero only has 30 songs compared to the 60+ songs on GH1 and GH2, it's still a lot of fun. And I think it's worth every penny. I vaguely remember Poison, Ratt, Twisted Sister, and some of the other bands from the 80s and 90s(was more of an AC/DC fan), but man, they are a lot of fun to play.
