Square, how could you do this to your loyal fans. Weve enjoyed most of the FF games youve put out... (all, except VIII), weve followed you for years, never doubting, and never being let down. How could they take the normally Wonderful Final Fantasy series, the gaming equivelant to Fantastic Stories, and dumb it down even further then you did In VII (cool story, but still dumbed down) and VIII (alright story... and really dumbed down)?
Lets just admit where the game starts and ends. Its the girls! In the openning cinnema, Yuna hijacks a pop concert, coming out initially in her formally Nun like summoner Robes, then discarding them in a scene not unlike A unedited Sailor moon transformation sequance (IE nudity hinted at, not shown) then magically dons a Short cocktail dress and belts out a J-pop tune that is generic beyond Redemption. All the while Rikku and Paine Deal with guards Matrix Kung fu style, complete with Slow-Mo arial freezes. Im not kidding.
Okay, and the Dress command. UNdress would be more accurate, seeing as how most of the jobs just put in a different skimy or Form fitting, Hugging you like the lover that just spent 20 years in prison, tight spandex. Yes, you do change Classes during battle, and yes, it does a alot to the gameplay... But thats beside the point.
Square is now dealing to the lowest common denominator here. This one is for all the drooling Fanboys that have spent the past six years arguing whether Tifa or Aries is hotter. Since when did rikku learn matrix-like kung fu like that? When in the two years that seperate the first game and the second one, did yuna learn to sing, and shoot handguns like that. She was a Summoner, a holy priestess if you will, now Shes Every Pop Idol/movie star type girls role model. She spends her days Trying to Play stupid pranks on rikku, looking for Tidus (Im not sure what hes gonna think of her new look) and belting out generic pop songs. Story continuity and intellegence seem to have been thrown out the window.
Yes, those that will defend the game, will admit that the Undress System adds gameplay value, that there is still a interesting story under all that skin and blatant Fan service (as if Quistis, Lulu, and Tifa wernt enuough), and that It is still a fun game. thats why I giving the game three stars.
I dont like having my intellegence insulted thank you very much. I dont care if its the best story Square has ever done. In all honesty; the Job system has been done better in the past, and has been used in longer games as well(this game can be finished in 10-15hrs), and square has also done MUCH better stories in the past. The main selling point in this game isnt gameplay, isnt music, isn't story, it's Yuna's hot pants and rikku Providing Jail Bait comic relief (wasnt she 16 in the last game?). and we also have Paine... Adding S&M type appeal to those that like a little Paine along with thier fan service. And Rival Sphere Gatherer Leblanc, Who is in SERIOUS need of a Shirt.
Look Square, in the past, Ive always plopped down the cash for your games without reservation. and Ive rarely been disappointed... COUGH *VIII* COUGH! And Ive forgiven those disappointments under the understanding that in the future, when you wanna show off your graphical skillz, youll put some decent gameplay in there. Fan service is all well and good, done properly it adds plenty of comic relief. Done improperly, as in this game, it just serves to satiate all those drooling fanboys that are still living in thier moms basement, salivating over women that would just as soon as throw a fiagra spell at them as look at them. Maybe when this one gets a english release, Ill rent it just to see if you improved it over the japanese version. But I just hope this is the last time you Stoop to such lows.
FFX-2 is a great idea!!

I just want to say something...Anyone who opposes this idea is not I repeat NOT a Final Fantasy fan...True fans (in my opinion) would like to have a sequal every now and then. I think it will be really cool to finally have a sequal. Cuz to me this game left off for a good sequal. I want to know why Tidus was swimming and seemed to be so happy. And further I would kinda like to know what Spira is like now that Yevon is basically gone and Machina are now widely used. I know who the last boss is and I kinda wanna fight him :). And all the questions that you may have had from the first one may have been answered. And then the jobs are a good thing because they havent been used in a long time so it's nice for something to come out for some fresh air. I heard there was a new leveling sysem but I don't know about that. Prolly like the rest. Gain EXP and gain levels. And of course you learn abilities from the jobs...The jumping and level environment is a good thing. It kinda helps the game to feel more real. Rather than just running everywhere. Well thats about it. Buh-bye :)
unexpectedly dissapointing

This game has left out an important FF tradition that had been with us for a long time, limit breaks. I kinda need those when im fighting a boss and my party is kinda low on hp but i dont get to use them and die because someone for some reason decided to not have limit breaks. Also, Square "Enix" had left out another important FF tradition that has not been said in any other comment i have read so far. Remember that victory music that we loved and always heard after winning almost every single battle of all FF games 1-10? Yes, that is also no longer in FF. And, they decided to hire a different musician for the music of the game and now the music is all popish 80's stile....I didnt like that. The only good song was the intro music and thats it. In FFX, Yuna's guardians always called Tidus pronouns because the user may have not named him Tidus and they never ever mentioned his name, yes that was a good move Square but there is absolutley no reason to do that in FFX-2. We do not get to name him so why not they call him Tidus instead of him, you, you know who and stuff. Also this whole game is mission based stuff and I think it is pointless and should not be mission game it should be a normal role-playing game like all the other FF games. The rest of the game is ok and the battling is fun but would be funner with limmit breaks. Please rent first unless you are an FF nut like me. Thank you for reading, this is all my opinion.

This latest version of FF is, in my opinion, the best one since FFVII. First of all, without a doubt, this is one of the best looking games ever. Just watching the cut scenes is worth the price of the game alone. You'll be dazzled.
The story picks up where FFX left off. It's the first FF sequel! To tell the truth, it's better than the first one for me. Also this is the first FF with a female protagonist. The hero is Yuna, the summoner from FFX. Also reappearing as a main supporting character is Rikku. They are joined by Paine, a woman with a mysterious past who dresses like a heavy metal biker.
There are a few big changes in the game system. Instead of having a large cast of characters with specialized skills, there are only the three characters I mentioned above. In this system, you use dress-spheres to access different skills. If you change a character's dress-sphere, then you change that character's class. Each class has unique skills, and any character can access those skills. However it takes a long time to build up the skills, so you basically choose classes for each character to specialize in. The interesting point of this system is that you have to figure out the best configuration of skills and class combinations to defeat particular enemies. Another point is that there aren't any weapons or armor to collect. Attack and defense depend on the character's level and their class. For example, if you change your character's class during battle, your hit points and defense ability also changes. Another new point is that there are no summoned creatures in this one. Overall I found the changes to be very interesting, and they improved the gameplay.
If you love role playing games, you have to get this one. No questions--just buy it.

I'm not a big gamer, but I'll still tell anyone that Final Fantasy II (IV Japanese) is my alltime favorite game.
Was.
Until X.
I made it through the first three and then lost track of the series for a while. I picked it up again years back with FFVII and didn't even finish the game. I spent so much time breeding the demned chocobos that, by the time I actually managed to get the Knights of the Round... I was so done with that game that I just..
... never finished it.
I made it halfway through FFVIII and quit as well. I was really disappointed with the turn that the games took. I didn't like the look of them, I didn't like the feel of the worlds. I didn't even bond with the characters as I did in the older games.
And I, for one, love a game that's just as much movie... as it is gameplay. I'm a huge fan of the old FF style turn-based fight system (I'm female, shooter games don't generally appeal), the sphere grid, the summon creatures, and the complete lack of modern weaponry. When I picked up the box for FFX in the store and took a look at it, I debated it for a good long while....
When I started reading though, I realized that they'd managed to find a happy medium between magic and modern. Unliked Final Fantasy II(IV), which was completely fantasy, Spira had its past, its simple machines, and still... its magic. They'd strayed away from that wannabe cyberpunk that they'd been shooting toward in VII and VIII and sort just... got back to basics.
I was completely impressed. And the CGI movies never fail to suck me in. There were parts when I felt as if I was watching a movie. And I loved that. Because, for me, there has to be some reason to play the game... and they fed the beautiful CGI images to me at the perfect pace... and it kept me playing toward the next one.
I'm going to buy FFX-2. When it comes out, I'll be one of those who's got it in their video game library. I can't say that I'm not completely skeptical about the clips and trailors that I've seen, but also...
I took a chance on X... and was totally pleased.
I know the characters, I liked them. Rikku and Yuna were my favorites even I wondered what happened to Tidus. Final Fantasy X did exactly what it was supposed to do:
It made me bond with the characters, and like them enough to wonder what happened to them. I hope it's not a disappointment... but, for some reason, I don't think it will be.
I've got high hopes.
Worst FF Game ever!

Ok so FF X-2 is the sequel to FFX which i say is one of the best FF games ever. But this sequel is nothing but a mediocre attempt at making money by using the FFX name. Ok so, the story follows the end of X by having Yuna her cousin Rikku and their mysterious friend Paine taking up jobs as sphere hunters which obviously hunt for video spheres all over Spira. But, the only reason Yuna is in this is to find Tidus again. The story may seem good but it quickly loses that goodness only a few short minutes into the game when u start fighting. The fighting has you waiting most of the fight for your little bar to go up before you attack while your enemies pummel you into the ground which can quickly frusturating especially during fights with dark aeons when they start using their overdrives like 5 times in a row. Now that ain't cool! also in most other FF games you actually start dealing massive damage in the later hours of the game like dealing thousands of hit points of damage but it really doesn't seem right when its going like attack-9, attack-5, critical hit-24! So basically, X-2 is nothing but a rushed sequel to a great game that is doing nothing but feeding off the fame of FFX. The only really good thing about this game is its graphics which are amazing and very realistic but even this is not enough to make this game actually fun. Stay clear of X-2 and buy FFX instead.
Good game but not up to Final Fantasy standards...

After playing Final Fantasy X, and thoroughly enjoying it, i wasnt expecting anything different from this game.
Boy was i wrong...
This 'sequel' is absolutely nothing like the game before. The fmailiar Final fantasy music is completely gone and is replaced with some very cheesy 70's type music.
The sphere level system is gone as are weapons and armor. There are no more swords and shields to collect and find. They are now replaced with accessories like earrings and bracelets.
Also, the strategical battle system of Final Fantasy X, in which you have to change characters in and out of battle, is gone too. The new battle system is super fast and wont require much more than holding down the 'X' button to attack.
And probably the worst part of this game is how tedious it is.
You will travel to the same exact places from Final Fantasy X. The maps are completely the same. Plus to get the most from this game you have to visit each location once a chapter. That means you will go through the same old areas 5 times each!
No originality what so ever.
Though i must admit that i loved the dress sphere system. The classes were mostly cool but there are some severe imbalances in some of them like the Dark Knights Darkness attack and the Alchemists unlimited supply of Mega Potions...
All in all this is a terrific game and i enjoyed it quite a bit. Compared to every other non Final Fantasy game it rocks. But compare it to the old Final Fantasys and it doesnt seem to have the same type of quality.
An RPG to rule them all

Ever since I finished FFX I've been foaming at the mouth waiting for this game to come out. Anyone who would consider themselves as any type of RPG fan knows that FFX is quite possibly the best RPG of all time. The graphics, soundtrack, gameplay and storyline were nothing short of perfect and I know that FFX-2 will follow in those same footsteps. The storyline picks up at the end of FFX during the Eternal Calm, which obviously won't be calm for long. Machina has become a regular tool in spira and all the temples from FFX are now flying ships. This time around the game follows Yuna, Rikku and a newbie Paine. After finding a memory sphere that depicts Tidus struggling in a prison, and screaming something about not using forbidden machina, Yuna is determined to find him. They set off to recover memory spheres from around the world. During there adventure they meet rival groups who are searching for memory spheres as well. One group in particular is made of a huge guy, a small guy, and a...well, let's just say "well developed" women. They have full access to a flying ship right from the get-go and the new job system is extraordinary. Players pick and choose what job do to and when. This decides when, where and how the storyline evolves. As if this weren't enough, the new battle system is incredible. On the fly, players can switch "outfits" and become a different job class. In the field, Yuna has been given some new control options too. She can now run and jump and grab hold of ledges, etc. As for scenery, there are some familiar places and faces, as well as some new ones. I've already seen a re-paired Besaid and it sounds like there's gonna be a Wakka junior walking around soon. All in all, FFX-2 is going to be perfect(I only hope Yuna and Tidus end up together like they should be). So, in closing, I have a feeling that the RPG world is about to be revolutionized, I'm just gonna try to hold on. ...
Don't bother, stick with FFX.

This game is more for the guys. I mean it has all the RPGness and funess of a Final Fantasy game but they have all the females half dressed and skanky looking while all the boys are fully clothed like so many other stupid games. I bought this to find out about Tidus and it's just better if you download the perfect ending instead of wasting your money on this game. No real bishonen to gork over. You get the feeling all companies think girls don't play games or anything and that the fan basis is male only. Well it ain't! We need Bishonen! At least in FFX the girls are clothed, and their is the gorgeous Bishonen Tidus.
A little disappointing...

Final Fantasy X may very well have been my favorite video game. I felt that FFX-2 did it little justice. I think it had a pretty pointless story line and the characters seemed to change rather dramatically. The entirety of the game was basically a bunch of minigames crammed together. Some were entertaining, but I missed the indepth stories and gameplay that Final Fantasy usually contains.
The music, I have to admit, grew on me. It had much more of a jazz feel than any other FF game. I loved it.
The three main characters, Yuna, Rikku, and Paine, were basically the new "Charlie's Angels". This game was alright, but I personally don't recommend it.
