Ok here are several thumbs up for the game. First of all, the game on Playstation is much easier to navigate (i.e. controls) in comparison to the PC version. I found that using the regular PS2 controls made things a heck of a lot easier for me to move around and go places. Second of all, the game IS played on PS2 in comparison to the PC version, that means you do not have to take up a lot of space on harddrive, which would happen with all the expansion packs and info you get with EQ PC version (at least in my opinion, after playing both). Third, while there is a need to form a group, the PS2 game world is less crowded than the PC version. Thus you aren't stepping on anyone's toes when going out and trying to find XP points.
Draw backs: ok first of all you do need a group, and finding one can be a problem but if you look up on the internet you can find many guilds for EQ (along with going to the main Sony EQOA boards) and you can post a need to find ones suitable for your tastes. second of all, yes it might, and I say might, cost a lot of money in that youre buying internet hookups, keyboards, et al. for your PS2.
However...you can find an easier way to get the equipment for the game. You can look for ads in the paper, but you can also go to places like Ebay and purchase the products (like I did) relatively cheep...you dont have to spend hundreds of dollars, my whole set up cost maybe 60 dollars over all (w/o the sign up fee of course).
Another thought...yes there is mostly combat to this game, but if you play most games like XIII, BloodRayne, .hack you realize that the games ARE mostly combat. Yes there are storylines, guilds, and environments going on in the background, but really ... its mostly attack and defend ...
All in all this is a much better version than the PC one IMO and I think that if you enjoy fantasy worlds and epics, give it a try.
I love Everquest!

I was a beta3 tester, playing as Soullessone. This was the first online game I played with PS2. I loved this game and can't wait until it comes out. The gameplay was endless and it was great fun to talk and play with other players online. For example, you can form groups with other characters and go hunting with them. I hope I get to keep my beta character.
Not Bad, But Expensive.

EverQuest can be summed up as entertaining online gameplay for a heafty price. While the game it self is cheap you must own the network adapter, a memory card and a keyboard. In addition to those you will need online play cards that cost 10 dollars per month. That totals up to be about 100 dollars depending on the memory card and keyboard you buy. Is it really worth it? In some ways yes. It offers an extremely large constantly growing world with all kinds of people you can interact with. If you get into this game, the price will be worth it, if not, then I guess you lose.
Great! Game

I am new to the Everquest community, having never played the PC version, but I have to say that this is the best game I have ever played. So, the graphics aren't really eye popping, well, the PC version I know has zone load times, the PS2 version does not, that's why the graphics are more straight edged and not as eye popping, I like the idea of no zone load times. The game is very in depth and expansive, on any given day you can go traveling, hunting, selling or just wander around the towns. The characters are customizable with armor, weapons, spells or abilities, and attributes like strength, intelligence, dexterity, agility, stamina, charisma, wisdom, and more. This is a massive multiplayer online adventure complete with your goblins, orcs, gnolls, griffons, wolves and thousands more. Let's not forget the thousands of new people you meet through the game chat feature. EQOA is a game that requires your time, however, it won't dissappoint. Sony has exhausted alot of resources in the development of this extraordinary game, with features like a special targeting system, guild formation, profanity filters, harassment reporting (which I might add is very strict, to include suspensions), and also currently six servers capable of 3-5 thousand players at a time, and much more. The game requires the network adapter and a ISP which you should already have, and a monthly subscription fee. I recommend you check with your ISP first to determine if your ISP is compatible with the network adapter. In closing, EQOA will be one of the only games you play on your PS2, but once you start you won't be dissappointed.

This game is very fun to play in the early levels, I'd say up until around 30 or so. I played EQoA from week 1 until late May and had a few characters one of which was level 47. The problem with this game is the way the quests are set up and the reptitiveness of the gameplay. Until crafting was added (I quit before then) the only thing to really do was to kill things. You kill and kill and kill only to kill some more. And for the most part the only thing that changed was the avatar of the mob. The Quests in the high end game are what put me over the edge. Basically all quests are kill something/someone to get something. But usually there are only one something/someone on each server. So if there are 100 other people on your server trying to do the same quest you all have to stand in line and wait. The Devs were even nice enough to make a few quests serial, so you had to finish one to get the next. But the first quest mob would have 200 other people trying to kill it. So IMO this game was worth the money because of the fun I had in the early levels. But the game setup (single mob quests and way too much player quest compeition) take the fun out of the game at the high levels. I'd recommend playing this game, and as soon as it gets boring or stressful (too much stress for a vid game), quit.
Not for the weak minded

I have had E.O.A. scince the begginig.this game can draw u in to it for hours or untill u pass out.I dont recoomend this game to anyone that dosent enjoy a challenge or enjoys solo missions.even those this game was a remake for the the playstation 2 it still has some problems with loading and attacking but all is fixed if u can scrounge up enough money to get frontiers the expansion.this game isnt just going around killing u need to think carefully create a charecter of the race and class u want and find teamates at ur level.and if u wanna get to to a good lvl fast all u need to do is go powerlvling, thats whene u get a lvl 30 guy to go attack a powerfull monster bring it within an inch of its life and thene u atak it get alot of experience and repeate... So basically go get it and skip on finalfantasy 11 .. IT COSTS 15 DOLLERS A MONTH AND AN EXTRA DOLLER FOR EACH CHARECTER U MAKE but everquest is only 10 and if u dont wanna bother ur parents u can go to ur local gamestop and buy these thing called game card that give u a month instead of using mommy and daddys credit card..... and ummm if u startt playing look for me im Kakorie ...and no mi names not from d.b.z. its from zelda u know where link starts out. c ya online fellow gamers

OK I have been Beta Testing this as a Elf Wizard named Atticus. Its a GREAT game. I will be one of the first to buy it when ti comes out. Its story line is incredible. It will take you some time to get started but once you do it is well worth it. You travel around the world of Tunaria and do little missions for your group of people. You can start Guilds and Groups and all that. I currently own a guild called The Elves of Tunaria. You will spend hours upon hours playing this game. Even if you dont get any missions done you can still play this forever. Leveling up does take some time so its best to join a group. I sugest this to any online gaming fanatic. I never liked EverQuest for PC but this one is a must for anyone. I also sugest you get a keyboard of some sort because that will make it LOADS better. It also doesnt matter if you have a slow or fast connection because you can still play with little or no lag in the server. Well Thats all Thanks for reading.

This is the best playstation 2 game i have ever played in my life, It has such creativity, Finnaly you can play everquest in your room by yourself not where other people are nagging you to wanting to get onto the computer, No more 10 more minutes! Just play on and play on. This game has taken everquest to an entire different level, and i think that it has been brought up to 3 stars to 100 stars, this game has changed the way i play everquest, And finnaly you have something to do when the servers are down, Just play single player offline! The game is magnificant, It is the best creation that has ever been brought to the playstation 2

Well, I would like to start by saying this game did peek my interest. As a previous Beta 1 tester for EQ and EQOA I found this game quite delightful. The graphics were very well done and the mechanics of the game were very smooth and fluidlike. I was very surprised after first playing this game. One of the things that all gamers are sure to enjoy about this game is how incredibly easy it is to get setup and get involved in the game. This and the fun nature of the current quests kept me coming back for more. This game is worth a look, but I hope Verant/Sony does not charge the rumored [$] a month charge for this game. If so, I might consider just sticking with EQ only and not bother investing in time and money into EQOA. Yes, EQ is [$$] a month now, but this price increase is rather recent, so a [$] tag for this PS2 game that is not even close to the size of the original EQ would (in my opinion) be a mistake at this point in time. They at least need to get a userbase before charging [$] a month.
Well I hope this review helps you out some. Remember, this game is NO Everquest (PC Version), but it quite impressive on it's own. It's an excellent diversion from the exp grind of EQ too :)

Truly addictive gameplay,
First of all let me say this. I hope everybody that reviewed this game back in Janurary were beta testers. I don't see how anyone can give an accurate review of a game before it even comes out.
This game rocks! While every game has it's negatives, EQAO is a great online breakthrough for the PS2. It hooks you and keeps your attention to constantly lvl up. 4, 6 even 6 hours will pass like nothing. The worlds are sprawling and you can run and find new things for ever. I wish there were more music choices and more music more often, but it's not that big of a deal. The best is if a friend of yours has the game and you can play together meeting new people online.
I highly recomend this game if you like online team play. If you prefer single player games alone, then this is NOT the game for you.
