dance factory is a hit

We purchased this game so our young adult kids could do DDR with their own music. Although they love DDR at arcades, they are conservative adults and do not want to listen to smutty music when they don't have to. We have seen a lot of mixed reviews for this game but don't believe the bad ones. Occaisionally, the patterns the computer makes will not match the music where most people would place it but it is always matched to some part of the music, whether the up beat or down beat, or some other obvious pattern. It is easy to get used to as you get to know how the program likes to work. We bought DDR 4.0 dance pads from Hartsunlimited(another great company) and are having a fabulous time with this game. Buy it and have fun your own way :0)

The reviews I read were mixed: fun to dance to your own music, yet the steps were too basic. I figured since you can program your own steps that second part would be easy enough to remedy.

I get the disc and there are a handful of songs, only one good in my opinion. After checking the book I figure out how to navigate using my own music and waited patiently for the songs to be ripped. Yes, the steps were not the ones I would have chosen for the most beat-astic dances but it was still good. Until I found my problem.

I purchased an entire memory card dedicated to only this game. I was under the impression the songs could be saved to the MC. Nope! For each song you have to put the appropriate CD in every single time... So your best option is to make a mixed CD- noting that game warns might not function well and recommends only original artist albums.

You cannot access a dance list- even the songs that come with the game. It's either the short list of those few songs or whatever CD album is in the console at the time. No scrolling through your options, unless one CD has all of your favorite dance tunes.

Honestly I haven't the time to go through all of my CDs to decide on an ideal dance mix. I figured I'd be able to add the songs I liked as I played the game. This is very frustrating as I want to play DDR to my music, not shuffle around discs and waiting for the same songs to rip and load each and every time. (Even Disc Jockeys don't have to do that much work anymore.)

Great concept, but disappointed in the poor execution.

This game SOUNDS fantanstic, and thats why i bought it. I always thought it would be awesome to turn any song of my choosing into a DDR song, and was very excited when i found a game that could do that. The biggest issue i had was that the up and down arrows are switched. Honestly i didn't even realize it until I played one round on a fairly easy level, failed, and couldn't understand why. If you've ever played standard, heavy, or expert on a real DDR game you find that your brain gets to know where arrows are and it takes less concentration to do the dance steps over time. When you're so used to playing the game one way, and the arrows get switched, it throws you for a loop. It was extremely difficult and frustrating for me to adjust to the flipped arrows, and I still can't play nearly as well on Dance Factory as DDR. It also frustrated me that there was no way of changing this, either by moving the arrows or reassigning the buttons on the dance pad. This game is great for someone who is young or hasn't played DDR before because they can learn with the arrows set in Dance Factory fashion, but it's terrible and frustrating for anyone who is even remotly good at DDR.

I love this game because it helps me stay in shape. It is fun to dance to any song that you want to. It is a great way to lose weight while having fun! Everyone who likes DDR should get this game!

It's a nice game like the original DDRs, but the ability to dance to my own music makes it a little sweeter. Sometimes the computer gets a little off the beat - I might be able to work out a more effective algorithm if I had tons of time, but I don't, so I like this one pretty well. Also, navigation is a little awkward at times. Overall, three stars for originality - and leave two open for when they work the bugs out.
