Avoid Vivendi Universal games

This is the second game we've bought that Vivendi Universal has taken over from the original creators and they've ruined this one, too. First, they brought down Spyro, and now they're after Crash Team Racing. The cars aren't easily controlled, the graphics got blurry going around some of the corners making it hard to tell where you were on the course, and worst of all - as soon as the first place racer crosses the finish line, the race is over. Whatever place you're in when they cross, that's where you end up. It was so much better when everyone was allowed to finish. I paid full price for this game so I'll muddle through it, but I'm never buying one of their games again.
Don't Go Near this game!

No matter how cool this game looks like, don't ever buy it. When I first looked at it, I first thought it would be like the classic, fun Crash Team Racing, little did I know I would be ripped off. The gameplay is boring, the controls are unresponsive, and there are not as many tracks. The sound is BAD. The characters repeat the same taunts over and over again.(especialy Coco)To sum it up,(you'd get bored to death if I told you everything I hate.)if you are a huge Crash fan, and you love kart racing, get Crash Team Racing(PS). If you're still a Crash fan, but you don't really like kart racing, get Crash Tag Team Racing(PS2). And if you don't like Crash, but like kart racing, get Mario Kart Double Dash!!(GC)Like I said, don't go near this game!
not for me....

I bought this game the day it came out and put it on and after going through all of the boards I have to say I am disappointed.
I love CTR and I thought this would be an updated (graphic wise) of the game. Some of the weird weapons are just weird. The green protective shield - you can't shoot it at anyone like before. I hate when the wheels turn and cling to the ground - it feels like you're not even moving. You shouldn't have to power slide through the whole game in order to get some speed. I think there is too much detail in order to keep your attention to the actual race. I loved the snow boards on CTR and the 1 snow board on this game I don't like at all. Too many dips and and the snow coming down is annoying. I never thought they would make another one and when I found out they were I was counting down the days till I could get my hands on it. It's ashame Naughty Dog didn't make this one. What were they thinking!
Great gameplay but lack of length

It's got great gameplay, it's easy to control and it isn't as babyish as MArio Kart Double Dash but it losses out on points because it's so short and there is a lack of character {all the bosses should be unlockable}.
I personally prefered the playstation 'Crash Team Racing'.
Gameplay : 4/5
Graphics : 4/5
Decency {how cool or sad the plot and characters are} : 3/10
Game length: 1.5/5
Overall: Decent. Compared to CTR: Get CTR

I really didn't care for this game at all. I rented it from Blockbuster and ultimately only played it once. The Multiplayer setup isn't the best in the world, the plot isn't nearly as solid as that of the game's predecessor, Crash Team Racing(CTR), and the gameplay is just bad.
I hated the control factor. The new developer tried to improve on the gameplay, but it only screwed it up. It probably would have been better to just rehash the old game's gameplay with the updated graphics. The controls felt extremely unnatural, and it just wasn't as smooth as the first game. Although it is graphically better than the first game, the first game clearly outstrips this game for playability, fun, and gameplay.
Another thing: The camera angles. Not good. They didn't provide a good view of what's ahead of you. You get two "view point" choices. One close behind your cart and one a little farther back. The one close to your cart provides a viewing area that's too narrow, and your actual cart and driver block a lot of the view. The one farther away gave you a good and wide view, but it was angled down too much, so you couldn't see very far ahead. All in all, I thought the camera angles provided way too many blindspots for me to enjoy the game.
And like I said before, the controls were bad. It felt very unnatural when turning or power-sliding. While the gravity floors were a neat element allowing you to go upside down and in all manner of directions, it still didn't make up for the sub-par controls.
To sum it all up, you should just ignore this game and buy the original CTR. It's a much better game. A LOT more fun. The graphics in CTR are good enough to let you enjoy the game, they aren't over the top, but like always there are things more important that good graphics.
And Crash Nitro Cart sacrificed a lot of gameplay for the graphics.
An Improvement on CTR?

Like many of the other reviewers, I found Nitro Kart very similar to the original CTR. The "improvements" are hit and miss. Sure the graphics are much improved, but what would you expect going from from PS to PS2? Meanwhile the game controls seem less responsive and the sound quality is muddy and the sounds themselves much less a part of the game than with CTR. The running commentary from the other racers in CTR was half the fun. Unless your goal is to collect all the Crash series, don't bother purchasing both CTR and Nitro Kart
CTR and CNK

As a big fan of the PS1 version Crash Team Racing (CTR),I recently purchased this item to bring back past kart racing fun. This game has pretty cool new weapons, but they don't seem to have the same punch as CTR's weapons.Another thing I noticed is that multiplayer mode also falls short.I found that it would lag and the speed of the karts would be slower than in single player mode.Considering this is a racing game,I think speed would definitely play a major role in game experience. On the positive side I enjoyed how the race tracks in CNK let you go upside down, and how they have some of the same characters. In conclusion, unless youre a huge fan of Crash I think you should save your money and buy another game.I would recommend Burnout 3, its a must.
CTR fans may like it, but it's half a game!

I purchased this game because one of my favorite Playstation games of all time was the original Crash Team Racing. I beat that game 100 percent and wished there was more to the game but it took me a long time to complete it all the way. This game was 30 percent done by the second day I had it and I'm not one of these people that sit in front of the TV and play a game constantly, I don't have that kind of time and just play when I can. The game is easily half the length of the original CTR and that is screwed up! Keep in mind that the original game was for the original PSX and was on the CD format of course, keep in mind also that this sequel is for the PS2 which is on the DVD format and therefore, should be at least the same length and have the same if not more content than its predecessor! I felt seriously gypped and plan on beating this in no time which means I'm not getting my moneys worth. Don't get me wrong the game is fun, and the graphics are on par with what a PS2 game should be, the title is just not as good as the original Naughty Dog game. In my personal opinion Crash went to crap when Naughty Dog quit making the games.
Not what a Crash Team Racing fan expected

I have all the Bandicoot series and love them all , both on PS1 and PS2. This game just came out today and I've spent about an hour with it. I was looking forward to this release since I heard about it a couple of months ago.
First of all, Crash Team Racing is the predecessor and was made for the PS1, and is one of my favorite all time games, just a lot of fun. I expected CNK to take it one step further with the PS2 and have an awesome game, however, sadly, I am truly disappointed.
All the elements of CTR that made it great are missing from the CNK, excellent music, fun effects ( confetti everywhere at the end of the race ) and quasi-realistic dynamics of the vehicles. Even though this is a fantasy type racing game, I expected the dynamics of the vehicles to be at least true to the rules of physics ( like they were in CTR). I just don't feel like I'm driving these things and having much affect on the outcome of the races. For example, if you lift your thumb off the gas pedal to hit the power-up button just for a half second, your cart actually slows instead of coasts.. This is hard to explain if your not a CTR fan.
Even if I based my review independent of CTR, I would still give it only 2 stars, the music is monotonous, the tracks are a bit too busy to actually 'get into the race' with, the voice overs are either the same as CTR's or they are just obnoxious, and the driving dynamics, like i said, don't really 'work'.
On the plus side, the scenery is nice. But overall, this is the worst game from the bandicoot series yet. Disappointing.
