Like DMC, but good

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

Got the game this morning. The graphics are great, and the story line has an interesting slant. I have only been playing a couple of hours, but I can't wait to get back to it. The only negatives are sometimes it is tough to see what's around you because of the camera angle, but it's not that often, and it's easy to learn to live with it.

This Game Rocks!!!

Ever Since I first played Devil May Cry I was hooked on the beautiful gothic setting & excellent gameplay and this game is very similar to DMC, the graphics are astounding, the gameplay flows smoothly and the storyline is very interesting, and the music just plain rocks!

The fact of being able to summon legions to fight with you is what sets this game apart, as you aquire new crests you get to add new legions each with their unique abilities.

At times you feel like you're in Starship Troopers, overwhelmed by hordes of monsters, and that's when your legions come into play.

This is definitely one of the best games to come out in awhile, especially after the big dissapointing Tomb Raider joke of a game...
I agree with the other reviewer, this game deserves 10 stars!

Ridiculously addictive!!!

This game blew my socks off. Literally. In fact I'm peeling one off the screen as I write this. When I first tried the Thanatos legion's power up and everything went into slow motion as creatures started exploding around me, my jaw hit the floor and I couldn't stop saying "holy sh*t!!!". I'll admit I was a little dissapointed when I first played it- the foreground graphics were sharp and the character models had lots of detail, but the backgrounds were fuzzy and looked unpolished, and seemed to consist of different shades of grey or brown. What really drew me in and kept me coming back though was the incredible action this game has to offer.

First of all, the number of enemies you'll be facing onscreen is just ridiculous, and I guess to keep the framerate up the developers had to sacrifice some detail in the backgrounds, which is a fair trade-off in my opinion. The monster designs are by far some of the best I've ever seen and the animations are incredibly realistic. Playing as Sieg you'll almost feel as if you're watching a CGI movie at times, the animations are that good. I was really impressed with the music, there are some very good tunes in the game and they really get you going. The cutscenes are also worth a mention- very well done even if the story seems a little thin.

One of Chaos Legion's coolest features is the ability to summon legions of demonic entities to fight alongside you. There's something really cool about wading into the thick of battle with 6 demonic warriors surrounding and protecting you. As you progress through the game and your legions gain experience, you can level them up between stages and gain access to new moves and abilities in addition to making your legions more powerful. I didn't like being pigeon-holed into choosing between only two legions to use per stage, but I guess this lends a measure of strategy to the game.

I've noticed many people slamming this game for its shallow story and gameplay, but you have to take it for what it is: a ridiculously addictive straight-up action game. Yeah, it could have been a lot more, but for what it is I think it's well worth the money. The level designs leave a lot to be desired since they're basically one area after another that you'll have to clear of monsters, and the gameplay does get repetitive after a while, but with some secrets to unlock after you play through on various difficulty levels, and the amount of upgrades available for your legions, I think the replay value is still fairly high.

All in all, this is a great game with plenty of action and plenty of style. If you're looking for deep story and gameplay, don't expect to find it here, but for a fast-paced action game you can jump right into for a pure adrenaline rush, Chaos Legion was made for you. The graphics, while a little on the grainy side, still achieve visual wonders and provide some of the most amazing eye candy I've ever seen, and battles are intense as dark, pounding music and excellent sound effects assault your ears. Even with all its shortcomings, this is an action-arcade slasher I'll be playing for months to come, if only to show off to all of my friends the sheer intensity and drama of the chaos that erupts onscreen!!

Awesome game.

I first heard of this game by playing a demo of it from a playstation magazine. It was awesome and I just had to buy it so when I got my next paycheck, I went out and bought it right away.

At first, the game was pretty hard but eventually I got the hang of it. I beat the game through once on normal mode with Sieg in just under 23 hours. After the first time, I played it through with Arcia on Normal and Hard and then through Hard mode with Sieg. In total I've put about 70 hours into this game in the 2 weeks I've owned it and I'm still playing it.

But trust me, this game isn't for everyone. For me, I love this game and I don't even own Devil May Cry. But my friend majorly hates this game for no aparent reason. I recomend not buying this game, but instead renting it or playing demos at least before you make up your mind. This isn't a game meant to appeal to everyone.

Graphics - 8/10
The character and monster graphics as well as the effects and cinematics are great but the backgrounds are just okay. They are kinda rough and plain so that takes a bit away from the overall graphics.

Gameplay - 8/10
At the start, the game can seem kind of confusing and hard but after you get the controls under wraps, it's a breeze geeting perfect rank on any level.

Sound - 6/10
The music is okay but not that memorable. I can't even remeber a single background song from any level. The sound effects are good though but the ending theme song almost killed me. Whoever even thought of hiring whoever the guy was that sang the song should be shot. Not to mention the singer himself should be shunned from existence.

Replay - 9/10
The game is even funner the second or third time through and playing as Arcia adds even more to the fun. The challenge stays throughout the game so it never loses it's lustre.

Overall, this game is amazing, you should check it out.

How is this like DMC?

Ok the only thing that is similar to DMC is the fact that it was made by capcom. This game is horrible it has terrible graphics that are worse than DMC and the game play is monotonous. The whole game you run forward and get locked into a small space then swamped with enemies and you kill them all easily and move on to the next area. The game was just terrible I can't see how they made the connection with DMC at least DMC had some variety and had different enemies to fight in the game. I don't recommend anyone play this game even with the legions there's very little varriety in this game and not enough for anyone to stay focused long enough to want to play for more than an hour.

Devil May Cry meets Dynasty Warriors!

When going into battle, it's good to have somebody watching your back, but when you've got the ability to summon creatures of darkness to kick butt, you'd be a one man wrecking crew! Such is the premise behind Capcom's latest offering, Chaos Legion. Playing as the knight Seig, you have at your command demonic "Legions" to help wipe out the hordes of enemies that swar onscreen. This game offers some great fun, and controling the Legions is a blast! The enemies, other than the boss characters, are not that varied but it doesn't matter much, since you'll beat a path through them in no time at all. The only flaw in the game comes in the form of the level design. While pretty good, it seems like the levels are merely the backdrop for slicing the hordes to pieces. If the level designs could have incorporated more terrain usage to help with strategy, then this game would've been perfect. As it stands though, Chaos Legion is still a blast to play, and beating it multiple times on progressively harder difficulty levels unlocks secret bonuses! Having fun and letting the Legions do the dirty work, it's all in a day's work for Seig...

pretty darn fun

This game is fun in the overall, thanks to its short learning curve and its relatively simple control setup. However, it takes a level or two to get the storyline down, and the freeform camera is so utterly annoying. Plus, the game can get a bit repetative, due to the fact that the combat isn't set in levels, its set in stages, so you have to follow one path all the time. However, the settings for the stages couple perfectly with the goth setting and storyline, and the combat is fun enough to keep you playing. This game won't appeal to everyone, though, so my advice is rent it first and if you like it, buy it.

Well what can i say it's fun but!! it's no classic.........

Chaos legion definitely is a fun game but!! some how i think that this game lacks substance to give it the kind of appeal like a DMC OR MGS , i feel it has no genuine replay value, the graphics are great but!!! after a while it's just a brawlers haven, if this game had came OUT before DEVIL MAY CRY i may have like it a little more but didn't!!! and i can't say this is classic,,, borrow this but don't buy this it's limited, banal, trite and feeble.
it has it's momment but that all try MSG3 laterzzz folks / gamers

Short But Beautiful

An absolutely beautiful, beautiful game. The graphics are mindblowing, almost to the point of being able to compete with Final Fantasy X and X-2. The backgrounds are incredibly realistic, the characters were rendered wonderfully. For video game fans who are familiar with Final Fantasy, the fighting system is much like that of Kingdom Hearts.. this game is essentially an all-out, beat-em-up game, and while creating a rather confusing storyline at first, it's worth every minute of your time.

The game was rather short, it only took me a few days to beat it. However, being able to unlock the movies and re-watch them later is a good reward for defeating it. It takes a lot of tactiful manuevers and strategy to defeat the bosses, an aspect which I very much enjoyed. It's one of those games that's simple enough to learn, but somewhat difficult to play. I highly recommend this.

It's time to show you the Abyss of the Darkness.

When you first read the introduction line you may think that the game is bad. Well in case you didn't know ''abyss'' means ''a primeval chaos''. In this case that definition fits this game perfectly. "It's time to show you the Abyss of the Darkness," is also one of the memorable quotes from this game, and is a quote I shall soon not forget. Well here I go...

Story 9/10
I don't want to give out many spoilers here so I'll make it short. You are Sieg, a young knight. Your old friend Victor has turned to the darkness, and has the power to create chaos, and disaster to anything thing he wishes. To do this Victor turns all of these creatures lose to come after Sieg, and his allies.

Graphics 10/10
Wow. Capcom has outdone them selves with this one. The graphics are incredible. First of all the backgrounds, they are so detailed, and lush that you actually feel like you are right beside the character that you are playing as. Now we have the character designs. I must admit that these characters are the coolest looking ones ever created for a video game. The enemies are all uniquely designed and look awesome. I think you should be able to visualize that the graphics are nothing to be let down by.

Game Play 9/10
The game play may look similar to people who have played Devil May Cry, and Dynasty Warriors. However while it is like them, it has a cool twist to it. The twist is that you get to summon legions. Legions are summons that you acquire during the course of the game. Some use Swords, bombs, claws, etc. To go along with that Sieg has a sword, and can slice and dice enemies with it, cool? Oh yeah. Also you play as one of Sieg's allies, Arcia. Now let me tell you something very important about Arcia, she has guns, and an awesome fighting style.

Sound 9/10
To go along with everything else in this game you have the cool tunes to go along with your hacking, and slashing. Oh and the sound effects are incredible also. For example, Arcia's guns sound incredibly realistic. The voice acting is very well done.

Replay 8/10
To tell you the truth the game is so fun you will just want to play it again and again for the fun factor. But then Capcom has put in some extra stuff, such as super mode, and playing as different characters in different levels of the game.

Overall 9/10
Chaos Legion is an incredible game, which no one should pass up. With great graphics, sound, game play, and replay value, Chaos Legion is a near flawless game. Pray for a sequel!
