True, the MMORPG scene is very very crowded. So, why Horizons?
I can't do this game justice in the allowed 1000 words, but here are some of the (publicly-available) highlights:
- EVERYTHING in the game can be crafted. Start with the necessary weapons, armor, tools. Add structures, communities, castles, machines, bridges, portals, hedges, statues, etc. etc.
- CHARACTER GROWTH - Not locked into any "job". Change schools to advance different skills. MANY different schools, including "prestige" schools with prerequisites for membership. No level caps! Tons of skills.
- MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the world - Help reclaim lands from the enemy. Free subjugated races (so they add to the nine playable races available at launch). Build houses & communities. Build "empire structures" and "artifacts" that help your community or everyone.
- HIGHLY DETAILED CRAFTING SYSTEM - Wow! Obtain formulas, acquire the proper skills, harvest over 100 different types of resources, (Wood, sap, flax, essence, carrots, iron, silver, wheat...) Obtain the proper tools, Use the proper machinery, make the item. Enhance the item. Now sell it, consign it, build with it, trade it, etc.
- CHALLENGING REAL-TIME COMBAT - Not just "click and wait until the random-number generator decides on a victor". Learn special combat skills and use them at the proper time in combat.
- STUNNING VISUALS - Real weather. Layered textures. Fluid cloth motion. Spellcasters can create jaw-dropping weather affects seen by all players. Player-dragons can take flight to reach floating cities. Huge surface world with areas in the sky and below ground. Hundreds of animations per player race.
- AMAZING SOUND - Rich cinematic score. Impressive sound effects. Combat, race, and town-specific scores.
Dragons at last!

I've watched how EQ developed, even bought it at one point though never played it, only almost. Why? Because it lacked the key elements I've long wanted in an MMORPG. With Horizons, you can finally choose a race based on appearance rather than abilities or classes you can select. That's right, no class restriction-based character creation. Top that with being able to go from a mason to a blacksmith to a warrior to a wizard to a healer to a scout and anything inbetween or anything else that suits your fancy. You can do that by joining different schools rather than your character being stuck as a particular class from the start. Don't like fighting? Kick back in town as a craftsman, smith, enchanter, builder. Want nothing more than to beat the ever lovin' ... out of everything evil? Grab a sword and leap out into the wilderness to seek your objects of aggression therapy.
They also have a general count for the number of combinations of the various parts that just swords can be made in. Let me explain first though by saying you have various parts to every sword. Blade, hilt, designs on them, tassels on the hilt, effects on the blade, sockets on the blade for extra goodies you can change when needed, among some other things. Now, keep in mind that there is say 15 blade styles, 5 hilts, 5 tassels, 20 socket items, etc. The base number of variations is over 3 million. That doesn't even account for what they are certain to add later as the game progresses. Think of that...over 3 million different swords. SWORDS! That doesn't even touch ANYTHING else from other weapons to all kinds of armor to buildings to all the other gear you may want to have. Needless to say, this will surpass anything I've heard of before, both what's already out and what is still as-of-yet unreleased.
Now, how bout them Dragons, hmm? !!!^_^!!! One MAJOR plus to me, that it is! They haven't shared entirely that much yet, but the detail on the Dragon PCs is amazing enough. They will also be a somewhat alien character in the style you play with, considering just the body shape difference from a standard humanoid character. They will have breath weapons, neat plus of course. Even bigger, they will be able to fly once you advance enough. No separate mode of transport, just a natural ability to fly. I won't even go into the fact that you'll be able to build that stereotypical horde with items for greater power as a Dragon. Oh, and when you make a Dragon, you can customize the colors in very fine detail. You could almost say you can customize your colors down to each scale, but even the most meticulous would find that a bit excessive. It even shows you what your Dragon will look like in later stages of maturity and advancement (when you get bigger, to say it simply) so you won't make a really great looking hatchling that looks, well, stupid as an ancient.
I am *SO* getting this game!
This game is a must have

Am beta testing this game and it simply rocks.
It has better graphics than EQ, SWG, EQ2.
It has more advanced tradeskills than EQ, SWG, EQ2.
It is both solo casual gamer friendly as well as having group and community goals and challenges.
If you don't like PVP and griefers, this game is for you since there is none.
So much to do, so many things to own including houses and property and the ability to build towns.
Don't miss out on playing this game from first day of launch.
New ideas - great Dev team - super game!

There are some very good new ideas going into this game, as well as some beautiful graphics and some of the best sound in an mmorpg ever.
I'd highly recommend giving it a try!

I was a beta tester for this MMORPG for several months. As opposed to the 'gamers' who prefer to keep their extravagant praise or flames anonymous, (Exception, Kore Breach...), I am proud to identify myself as Gila Gobergin, Sslik crafter/adventurer. I also posted as 'Gobergin' on the Tazoon.com Beta forums, if you would like to check those out for more background.
This is not the game for the 'uber l33t' hack-n-slash AFK Macroers. If you don't even know what I just said, there is hope. If you really liked Ultima Online until the hackers and PK'ers ruined it, this is going to appeal to you. I know- I beta tested the original UO as well. There is no PvP and the intention is to foster a greater sense of interdependence and community. I firmly believe that a more mature mindset- not chronological age, just a willingness to actually work on a game reather than expecting to macro yourself through everything- will find this a really attractive game. The thing that appeals most to me was being able to develop all the skills I needed to completely support my character as both an adventurer and a craftsman. It tickled my fancy to develop a character that basically was a classic MilitiaMan- Fully competent businessman and crafter who was able to whack the encroaching undead as well. I can only offer my personal opinion, but I had never heard of this game before until I joined the beta- but it cured me of a nasty Diablo II LOD addiction.
As has been stated, there are problems with this environment, and it did come out of beta earlier than I would like. For the first month or so, expect a certain amount of lag, glitches and odd happenings. However, this is in no way a major disaster on par with Anarchy Online or Star Wars Galaxies initial releases.
Oh yes, and on the graphics..... most of those who complained actually never bothered to modify their graphics settings. I was very happy with the graphics I saw and had only a low-midrange gaming video card. In Beta, the lag got bad at times, but that was mostly due to unoptimized code which was cleaned up by the end of beta party.
I played this game for months in beta (All the way to a very enjoyable close of Beta combat sequence) and saw steady, continuous improvment all that time. I never was bored, and always found a way to deal with any glitches that came up. I have pre-ordered and plan to be there as soon as my CD comes in the mail.
this game puts atari back on top!!!!!!!!!

This game is great it has crazy graphics, awesome game play, a bunch of different races to choose from, tons of different classes to choose from scholor, to a warrior. If you are a dragon you will be able to fly, if you are a dwarf you have dwarven toughness. Every race has a special ability. You can work as a team to kill golems, zombies, skeletons and a whole bunch more. You can build your own towns. You can make your own weapons, armor, food to use or sell. When you make things you get experience when you make things. Alls I have to say is this game is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me when I say buy it its a really good game.
Must Buy

I've played three different characters with combinations of skills, and am over 50 with each character now.
Dragons are still nerfed to some degree, but overall, after adulthood, they're decent. My cat that's a ranger has been put aside due to some of the nerfs they did to archery... My Paladin however is rocking things that are much higher than he is, the problem with this is that there isn't a lot that is higher now.
The only serious problems I have are finding crafters to make me that new sword or piece of armor! People that can make tier 4 stuff won't make tier 3 (it's not worth my time, or find a lower level crafter to make it so he can make some money... What an attitude, and seriously prevalent in HZ! You don't want my silver? Hell, I would pay 10s for certain spells right now! How is that not worth your time?) So, if you're in the middle somewhere, it may be really hard to get certain items unless you decide to become a crafter to support your adventure class, ie, spell crafter for mage, armorer / blacksmith for warrior type, etc.
Well, one other is that there aren't any higher level quests (above lvl 60's anyway) Hopefully they will fix that SOON!
Where will Horizons be in three months? Probably a lot more filled in! They're adding things every week! Newer spawns, adventures, events, quests, etc.
This game is a lot of fun! But you really do have to work on your characters!!!
This is good stuff...

...don't let sour comments from some powerplayers (or munchkins - RPG-term) fool you, this game is great stuff.
A MORPG can never be Baldur's Gate. It cannot have a story that evolves around you the player. A MORPG is about immersing oneself in the world presented; and the world of Horizons is splendid indeed.
I see a lot of people complaining about the graphics, and this annoys me. Some visual flare has been sacrificed, true, but instead you have HUGE landscapes, and LONG view distances. I prefer that to walking around in a bumb mapped haze. It looks GREAT, believe me.
As for gameplay, well, you can play a dragon. Enough said. I've tried a lot of other titles like this (Galaxies, AO, DAoC, ++), and they are all basically the same, limited by the type of gameplay a MORPG can offer. Horizons is somewhat different. Horizons offer something more.
The music is second to none.
A lot of the issues that plagued Horizons has been resolved. It is relatively stable, and you can run it on high setting with any machine above average. Try the free trial...
Excellent

This game has great potential. The races, the strong fantasy theme; the zone less world, and the unbounded ability to explore mountain ranges, vast plains, seashores and so on. It is a large world. A very detailed crafting system, many combat classes allow the player to dabble in many different areas. I've been in beta for several months, and I still find many new things to do, quests to explore still.
