More information

It's amazing that Amazon doesn't request more information for games and books. Some people are just plain cruel to the game, some are indifferent, some are happy with the game (hoping for improvement) and some are too happy and I do wonder if they have played it. If you are going to give a review please be fair and include some information:
1: What are your machine specs? (Proc type & speed, amount & speed of ram, graphics card type & speed, connection type, and just overall PC info.
2: How long have you played the game (Months, weeks, days, hours) and please be trueful.
3: What prior knowledge are you basing your opinion on? (D&D player, Dragonlance and other D&D type books, or gamer.
3.5: What types (if applicable) of games are you comparing it to?

(Unless the above information is included)Just plan hyping the game giving it a 5 star or slandering it giving it a 1 star rateing will not really be taken seriously because of the fanatics. The reviews that I'll put the most though into otherwise will be the 2.5 to the 4.5. Most games even the most horrible or the best very rarely deserve better or worse.
Also rate the game's originality seperate. Just because there are dozen games out there with F-15, F-16, and F-22 doesn't mean I'm not dieing to see the next big Air Combat Sim to come out.
Anyone that would like to email me with more info would be appreciated.

Reflections of reviewer Kore Breach

I have read the review by Kore Breach & agree that it was a fairly accurate review of this product which does hold the promise of reaching the next level in Multiplayer Online Gameing.
I do wish to caution shoppers that there seem to be some continuing problems in the gameplay. Game loading time on dialup can be long-it is not uncommon for it to take 8-10 minutes just to get into the game. Dropoffs are frequent and customer support is, well, I have yet to receive a response to any of my queries.

This promises to be a very good experience if Artifacts is ever able to provide for reliable play. Once again, it appears that a software producer has rushed a product to the market to let the purchasers de-bug it.

Awesome game - Stunning Graphics

As a long time fan of Dark Age Of Camelot and also having played Ultima Online I think Horizons has to be the best MMORPG that I have played so far. The graphics are absolutely amazing the game play is great and the game has by far the best crafting system Ive seen yet.
Im not really sure what the people who gave this game a bad review were thinking - I was completely impressed and plan renew with a year subscription to the game after my firts 30 days is up.
One suggestion though - make sure you EXCEED the minimum requirements for this game or it is very slow to load - I had to upgrade the video card and add some ram sooner or later anyway now all is good :-)

This is the Best MMORPG yet in my opinion!!!

Being a long time player of Dark Ages Of Camelot, Ultima Online, and Earth and Beyond... Of the massive multiplayer games that I have played, I must say Horizons is the best so far. The graphics are amazing, the crafting system is 10 times better than any other game I have played, the fight system keeps you involved rather than the normal hit fight and hope not to die.

This will be the first MMORPG that I am paying for a 6 month subsciprtion to rather than by the month as it will be the first one that I will play for more than a couple months.

Another great feature is that the game is dynamic in that they are adding content weekly and they also have in game events etc. If you like the Massive Multiplayer games I would definetly recommend this one to anyone!!!.

Don't believe the beta testers

This is a game to buy, it has a lot of potential. I too am in the beta, and what the other reviewers fail to remember is that they are in A BETA. IT IS FOR TESTING BUGS. With every new patch everything is improved. An online game CAN NOT BE PERFECT AT RELEASE. If you want to wait an update or two that's fine, but this game is anything but boring or dull.
This game has amazing potential and it is a new genre in MMOPRG that will apeal to new gamers as well as old ones.

The HZ Lowdown...

I participated in BETA from September to the BETA close on Dec. 4th, and of course there were problems.
Many people that participate in BETA do not grasp the concept that BETA is a "Game in the Making". And some people like to rate a game before it is even shipped... as can be seen.
Well, while the game is not the most original, nor are the races and many of the classes the most awe inspiring, the mechanics of the game are both as "In Depth" or as straight forward "Hack and Slash" as you want it to be. I do recommend to anyone however that is looking for a Hack and Slash game to leave this well enough alone. This little gem is not Asheron's Call 1 or Tribes, yet it is so much more.
No in fact this game (running on a 2.4 Gig Pentium 4, 756 MB RAM, GeForce FX 5600, with Cable Internet Connection) Can be hiked up to a nice Graphical setting, with the tiniest amount of lag, if any at all. The graphics are not as jaw dropping as SWG's landscaping, but it has enough eyecandy to give the Graphical Sweet Tooth in us all some satisfaction.
Sure, there were problems in BETA... That is why they call it BETA.
But if you are looking for a MMORPG that gives you in depth Combat, Character Management and diversity, a 10,000 square kilometer realm to explore which promises to grow, politics, and a bucketload of RP'ing joy, then Artifact Entertainment and Atari has brought to you nothing short of a terriffic game.
So why do I give it only 4 stars? Well actually I give it a 4.5... the other .5 is left out because there could have been (in my opinion) a little more originality in Character races and classes... I mean... how much fun would it have been to be a Chocolate Chip Wielding Oompah-Loompah Vacuum Cleaner Salesman!? ........

Working on being a great game

I've been playing the game for the last month and just past my subscription renewal point without cancelling, but I don't think I'll go that much further with this game. Horizons does many things right, but has a few things wrong with it that really ruin the game experience.

Graphics look good, but not always smooth. A high end system is required to run this game and you'll be tweaking the settings even with the best of systems. As the biggest memory hog game ever created, it will chew through 1 gig of memory real quick and a Radeon 9800 pro 256 becomes "not enough". There's a good side of this though: Even at low settings, it looks great and you will spend time just staring at the landscape and stars. Like EQ, most lag occurs in high populated areas such as towns and cites probley a result of bad net code just as much as graphics.

Horizons has the best sound and music I've heard in a game. They really spent some time and did it right and the music will haunt you once you hear it. It changes as you enter different environments and really enhances your experience. Game designers can learn alot from Horizons when it comes to the music.

The main challenge facing Horizons is it's content. There's barely any at all. The only real content you'll find in horizons is what you create yourself. Quests usually involve collecting 10 things of "this" or kill 30 of "that" and are just plain stupid. Many quests will have you running here or running there being a mad messenger of sorts. While this follows what's been seen in other MMORPG's, Horizons fails in it's attempt as there's no real sense of danger in it. Dying in Horizons gives you a "death penalty ticket". You don't have to get back to your corpse, no loss of XP, you just get a ticket that reduces your effectiveness for eight hours. I have never felt this effect and can't tell the difference. There is no fear of death in Horizons, no real penalty. Go ahead and kill that big golumn, it doesn't matter if you die, you can just try again. There's no real sense of adventure here.

Crafting becomes tedious. The placement of resources in the game at higher tiers is designed to get you running back and forth for hours between gathering and processing of them. While many things are done right with the way Horizons does crafting, it becomes a chore. Spending four hours mining ore and creating things raising your level, then rinse and repeat.

Where's my monsters? While other games had all sorts of monsters everywhere you run, Horizons has hardly any. They usually group in area's and can easily be avoided. Even if they do come at you you can easily outrun them. For fun I aggro'd an entire army of undead and tried to train them into town. In other games this would be a horrible thing, but in Horizons they just head directly back and give up at a certain point - not going after anyone else they pass along the way. Again, there's no sense of danger here.

Unlike others, the game bugs are providing me with an endless source of entertainment. I don't get upset like so many others. It adds a challenge when the game crashes right in the middle of taking on two higher level creatures, or right when my group needs me the most. It adds a real world element to the game and sense of urgency as I scramble to get back in through the web portal they've created. To me, this is a game feature that should be explored further and could really invoke some strong gameplayer emotions. The Devs are scrambling.

I have hopes for this game. There are many things to like about it and it seems a shame that it was rushed out the door so quickly. They can fix it. I think it will be a better game in a couple of months. With the other MMORPG's coming (World of Warcraft/EQ II) it had better be.

Nice MMO that was ahead of its time

I have recently downloaded this game. Must say I rather like it over most of the newer stuff that has been released.

Most noticable is the maturity level of the community. While not overloading like WoW is. Its still a nice size community without all the drama you run accross with so many of the others. Its refreshing without having to listen to hours of pointless banter, and childish "woot" language all the time.

The real thing that stands out is the mix of gameplay. While most of the newer MMO's have moved on to focusing on the killing aspect. This game has your killing, but is mostly PvE.

This game puts lots of the stuff in crafters hands. You don't run accross the problem of the loot being better than your crafted stuff.

I have played this game for 18 months and can highly recommend it to any gamer who is both mature and prefers a PvE game play. I will not go into detail...you can get that from the last two reviews (and they are accurate), but I will say that the game, and its community, are enjoyable to the point of addiction.

It is growing and improving even after all these years, and the current owners are adding rich content even as I write this. I play an adult dragon, (aine, order and blight shards), not yet an ancient (I have that covered in real life, hehe), who is happily building her lair (10 layers deep!), and have recently revived a dryad alt,(sycorax), so that I can get involved in the new bi-ped confectioner skills. Both classes, (dragons and non-dragons), play quite differently and are provided a multitude of quests appropriate to level and school. Each class is able to multi-school and can switch back and forth between schools with ease.

While some earlier reviewers complain that they got bored (a complaint I have heard, to my frank amusement, on every game I have played, leading me to suspect the player, not the game), in truth, there is so much to do that my biggest complaint is that I may never live long enough to try it all!

The monthly fee is comparable to that of most other large MMORPGs, and provides you with multiple character slots on a choice of several servers, making the game a reasonable economic choice.

Ahhh...I guess that was some detail, after all. *Sighs*. I do love the game and can't always stop talking of it once I have started! *Curtsies and steps away*.
