First off let me say anyone whos ever been on any kind of hunting trip or knows anything about hunting at all will bash their system with a sledge hammer after playing this game. I can understand being attacked by a Grizzly Bear or a Mountain Lion but White Tail Deer?!? Come on! Why equip yourself with any hunting gear we all you have to do is buy every tag, haul arse thru the woods, and shoot the first thing that attacks you. Be sure your carrying something fully automatic though cause you need it to hit the animal. Alot of ppl are defending this game saying its fun to mow down animals that attack you. It only takes one shot to kill them. Yippy, one shot....after running thru a straight valley for 10 minutes that you cant get out of. Might be different if your ran into 50 Rhinos and you had a Stinger missle launcher or something. To anyone whos thinking of buying this game, DON'T. It sucks in almost every way possible.
GREAT Hunting!!!

I bought this game based on the computer hunting games that Cabel's has come out with. I thought the X-box version not only had better graphics, but better gameplay as well. Even if you don't hunt, you will find this game very exciting!!!
Activision is writing the good reviews!

Don't be fooled by the long detailed and positive reviews. Donna Johnston from NY is listed in the credits of all the Cabela titles as the QA Lead. Why is she giving her review on the games she worked on which you see on every Cabela game? It looks like Activision is paying their employees to write reviews for them. This game has poor graphics and is tedious and boring. There are much better hunting games out there. Don't waste your money on their falsely advertized garbage.
VERY FUN but too hard to be great.

This game can be fun. The quick hunt is loads of fun and you can choose your difficulty level to suit you. Also you can choose any weapon, piece of gear etc. Other wise the action mode gets old fast, heck all it just animals attacking you, not even a moments rest. Now the career mode I hate. As far as I know it is impossible to save after a kill. Of cours I have given up on it. Hopefully you will find a way to save because it is very fun. I love quick hunt so thats all i play. I really would recomend this game to any hunter.

There are no wide open areas to hunt in. The whole time you play you have a mountain wall that you can't walk up on both sides of you. The graphics are dull, washed out, and a very low resolution. I had to check the box and make sure I didn't buy a Playstation One game. There is only one tree on every hunting area and it is repeated everywhere. Same thing with the grass. The animals do not look very real and animate very poorly. When the animals turn it looks like they are rotating on a single point, like they are on a spinning platform on the ground. The animals don't act realistically like you would expect. It feels a lot like hunting animal robots. The quick hunting is also really strange. You shoot an animal and a portal appears like you are hunting on a Star Trek holodeck. When you walk through it you have to wait for the game to load. This goes on reapeatedy, portal, loading etc. Not exactly the real experience I was looking for. On top of everything else the controls are horrible. It is really hard to aim and move your hunter. Plus, when an animal attacks your the view pops to a new location and you get completely disoriented. This is a horrible, horrible game.
quirky, kind of sick but still fun none the less

I'm a fan of weird and wacky games (I'm all over "Everblue 2" for example) so of course hunting games fall right into my realm of choice. "Dangerous Hunts" is new twist on the now old hunting simulation, not only do you get to kill both common and surprisingly, endagered animals - they can attack you for a little well deserved bestial revenge.
The game engine is a decent one with a nice job on creating a mostly believable environment. The different locales actually do look quite different and if you have any interest in artifical life then you will probably get off just wandering around and taking a boo. I wish that there was a mode for a random chase cam through the territory as this would make an awesome screen saver for the living room.
The basic scenario is what you would expect - you have a set of weapons, lures and clothing and you have to set off on various types of hunts. If you replaced all the modes, cars and tracks in Grand Turismo with guns, animals and locales you would have a similar setup.
There are some issues with the game that stop it from being 100%.
The first problem is that the hunter you take the role of must have no knees because he/she is unable to jump over the smallest of logs or rocks (there is no jump button). If your path is blocked by anything, no matter how low, you either need to find a way around or go back where you came from. Another thing interfering with suspension of disbelief is an artificially enforced limit on how hich you can climb up a hill. The weird thing is that this does not appear to be a game engine limitation as I did find one hill that would let me on top and there was no excessive clipping nor did I "fall off the world". Similarly, if you end up in the water you are doomed as you can neither swim nor hold your breath. Considering the detail given to the water (fish can be seen swimming in some spots) I do not understand why they worked so hard to keep you away from the water.
Another issue is the control of the guns, especially with the scope enabled. There is no scaling option for the stick which means it can be very difficult at times to avoid wildly swinging the gun all over the place which means that you will find yourself burying a lot of ammo in trees and hillsides (not to mention looking like a tool).
Another annoyance is that some logs and bridges you need to cross are very easy to fall off of which can mean restarting an entire hunt because your avatar is so damn allergic to water thanks this aspect of the game engine.
At least in easy mode, animal attacks are pretty much like getting whipped with a soggy noodle - a bear needs to clobber you repeatedly before the magic warden fairy appears to whisk you away to safety.
Despite these issues, the game is actually pretty fun to play and offers some GTA sick fun factor, weird charm plus a soothing atmosphere when not actually killing that makes it rather addictive. On the sick front you have touches like how the animals twitch for a while when shot (as well as rolling down hills) plus the fact that you are hunting endagered species in some scenarios (why no seal clubbing?). The fact that the game can be slow is actually no problem since it is actually quite pleasant watching the grass blow and trees sway and it is generally fun to just look around. If you like fishing games then you will probably know what I mean. I'm a vegetarian myself and so find a definite humour angle in the plot of the game and the mix of action and screen saver is weighed just about perfectly. If you have a longer attention span than the average 16 year old and appreciate that which is wacky and ridiculous (and a dark sense of humour doesn't hurt) then I recommend checking this sucker out.
Cheers

I think Activision really went far out here. This game is awsome because all of the exicting action every second. The rifles are better than shotguns or bows because the rifle is more powerful. My Favorite game to hunt is Kodiak Bear because I got $1139 for one once. This game is all out and is a must buy! I give it 5 because it's too good of a game. Good Luck!

Do they even have hunting or know anything about it in Romania? They cleary don't know much about it which explains why your run out of breath after five seconds in the game and have to walk painfully slow 90% of the time. Also you can walk around while you shoot which my dad would kick my ass for doing. It turns out Cabela's Big Game Hunter, Cabela's Deer Hunt 2004, and Cabela's Dangerous Hunts for the Playstation 2, Xbox, and PC versions are all made in Romania. No wonder Sunstrom, the originator of the game went out of business here in Indiana. I was so pissed I returned this pile of garbage. Any self respecting American should do the same, or not buy any of these games in the first place. You think they could at least make a hunting game in the states. I'm going to wait for Deer Hunter on the Playstaion 2 which is made in the good ole U.S.A. plus the PC version is way better than Cabela's.

I bought this game with minimal expectations. Many hunting games on both the PC and the PS2 are relatively good, while many others should have never left the desks of the coders. Looking for something unique, especially where you, the hunter, become the hunted, convinced me it was worth a shot (no pun intended... I've owned a PS2 since it's initial public release and have a game library of 100+ titles. The load time on this game, from the startup to the scene loads, is average.
The game itself has various levels of difficulty, starting with the easiest which uses a red "tracking light" to assist with locating the hunted game. This is fun at first, but quickly becomes too easy. You can then move up to the more difficult levels. The real difference is the skills required to locate the animals, along with some other variances such as fatigue level, etc.
The graphics and sound in this game are on par with any decent PS2 game. Nothing ground breaking, but clean enough to be enjoyable. I found no frame rate slowdown at any point in the game.
One very cool feature is the "bullet cam". Only available in the easy mode, this replicates the graphical special effects used in many movies where the viewer is treated to the viewpoint from within a traveling bullet. This is a sweet addition to the game and quite well done.
My only complaint is the lack of violent attacks on the hunter. When you're attacked by a prowling mountain lion or a pack of wolves, you simply see a red "blood" flash on the screen. Maybe I just play Grand Theft Auto too much, but I was expecting something more graphic in a game called "Dangerous Hunts". However, that's a minor complaint in an otherwise very enjoyable game.
...Keeping this in mind, I have no hesitation in recommending this title.
Dangerous Hunts is fun and is certainly worthy of carrying the Cabela's name.
best hunting game ever
