ok here's the deal. this is obviously not a "sim" type of video game like some might say Gran Turismo is, but this game is a lot of fun, has good decent graphics and HAS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT A LOT OF OTHER RACING GAMES LACK, MAYBE I SHOULD SAY ALL OTHER RACING GAMES....
MULPITPLAYER MODE PEOPLE! AND I MEAN SPLIT SCREEN LOCAL MULTIPLAYER!

I just started playing this game two weeks ago. I love it. The cars you can play are awesome looking cars that don't exist in real life. I was not a racing fan until I played this game. It got me hooked. You can play people all over the world in the Online Battle to really test your true skills. You get the sense that you are a real world class racer! Try it out, you will see what I mean. However, don't get frustrated when you fail to unlock new cars. You just need to retry a couple of times. Stick with it, and you will get better beyond your imagination.

RR7 so so

I'm not a pro gamer but have played this game enough to realize both advantages and limitations:
pros:
good scenery and car graphic detail
nice music even at beginning levels
innovative routes and drifting adds a nice touch

cons:
lacks realism, it feels the car is in autopilot at times
if you memorize the corners better than rivals you'll end up placing well no matter how skilled you are
cars look much better in preview then when the game is played(disappointing)

Weird physics. NOT a racing sim.

If you want something that is realistic, do not buy this game. I play Motorstorm frequently, and am a big fan of the Gran Turismo series. I love racing games. This was just a lot of weird drifting. Personally, I hated it.

A bad ride in heaven

Pros: Fast paced racing game; futuristic cars and nice graphics; drifting is fun

Cons: Sound and music make your ears bleed; physics engine resembles the '90's; winning races is almost impossible

Overall this is a good buy for someone who likes to see how much the PS3 can do but the game experience is a bid letdown when you have titles like ProStreet, Dirt or even Carbon.

FUN and addictive racing game, even for non-racers

I always thought that I was just not a fan of racing games. After playing Ridge Racer 7, I now understand that I am not a fan of racing/driving SIMULATIONS. Ridge Racer 7 is an enormously fun and addictive racing GAME. It has, in my opinion, a fantastic balance of an easy learning curve, a large number of cars and an upgrades system that provides for incredible variety, beautiful graphics, and most importantly, a steady crescendo in difficulty such that when you finally beat the last few races you have a great sense of accomplishment without feeling totally worn down by the process. Furthermore, online racing is fun that extends after you finish the offline portion of the game.

The basic appeal of Ridge Racer lies in the _incredible_ sense of speed that is accentuated by the "drift" mechanic at the heart of the game. Drifting is very easy to learn and allows for mesmerizing hairpin turns with a minimal loss in speed. However, the challenge of the game lies not so much in drifting itself, but in the timing of the drift. This is because drifting is the mechanism by which you charge up the 'nitrous tanks' in your vehicle that allow you to supercharge your car's speed in bursts. Mastering the use of nitrous (there are many creative permutations) is important to beat the most challenging races in the game.

It is very easy to get into the game and start winning races that allow you to gain 'manufacturer points' that allow you to upgrade various parts of your car. This allows you to complete the so-called "Ridge State" Championship Circuit and to get familiarity with the courses (22 of them, raced in both directions). It is at this point that the real meat of the games starts, in the form of "Extreme Battles" that you start gaining access to. These are various scenarios, including the signature Duels, that provide the bulk of the game's challenge. As you win these battles, you will unlock exotic cars and more upgrades that allow you to customize your car to your exact specifications in both looks and handling.

I was amazed to find that Duels which end up lasting 3-5 minutes (all races are 3 times around a track) could feel so EPIC. A well-implemented replay system allows you to save these moments of triumph for future viewing. This is really the best time to savor the fantastically detailed 1080p 60 frames-per-second graphics.

You will NOT enjoy this game if you demand a "realistic" racing game with "damage", "real-world physics", and/or "destructible environments". However, if you are looking for a fun arcade-like experience, I think Ridge Racer 7 is a tremendous value and I highly recommend it.

Unrealistic, insanely fun driving game

RR7 is the logical next step in the Ridge Racer series, and is the best one so far. But, like most of the RR games, not without its flaws.

Ridge Racer has never been about realism. The physics are about as ridiculous as it gets, the "nitrous" feature is really a rocket boost, wrecks don't damage your car, etc. RR is about fun, fast, aggressive driving, and is much easier to master than a "real" simulation like the GT series.

Graphically the game is superb, highly detailed cars and beautiful scenery. It has occasional frame rate problems, particularly when sliding through turns with several other cars in the turn--fortunately this hasn't been a problem so far. But I'd honestly prefer a solid framerate over great graphics.

The past few RR games have added new features (RR5 included "drafting"). In RR7 you earn money by winning races, and can then buy new cars and various car upgrades. A much better approach than the all-too-linear progression in previous games, as it gives you control over which cars get upgraded. It's nothing like the overly-complex car setup/tweaking in DiRT or GT, but it's fully in line with RR's theme of "keep it simple, keep it fun".

A major focus of RR7 is on online play. I miss the story mode from RRT4, as campy as it was--especially as I'm not interested in online competition. The online rankings might be interesting, except people have obviously found ways to cheat and inflate their numbers to unrealistic/unbeatable scores.

A female announcer/copilot?! I think this is a positive change. The previous series' commentators were downright obnoxious and I always ended up turning them off.

If you enjoyed the previous games you'll like this one, although it is a bit more complicated and I think the focus on online play is unfortunate. If you're new to the series, just keep in mind it's not about real cars or real racing and I think you'll enjoy it.

Awesome Video Game

I thought nothing would ween me from PC games to console games. Enter Ridge city. I purchased three games at the same time (madden, fifa and RR) thinking I would play each one casually. Boy was I wrong. I cant get my hands off RR. It is difficult to get the hang of cornering when you first get the game. Then as you play, you develop your technique and before you know it, your a force to be reckoned with. The online game is extremely difficult and i have yet to place better than last or second to last. But I can see how those other players got so good. I do concede the following: This game does not have realistic physics and the cars take no damage. However, this is how i want this game, that is what sets ridge racer apart from all the other run-of-the-mill racers out there. With that said, if you want a more realistic racing game, get Project Gotham Racing or Gran Turismo when it comes out. If you want an arcade style racer and a blast at that, get RR7. PS loved the techno music as well.

Meh...

Just another futuristic racing game. No signs of damage. Not terribly dynamic in the game play. Just kinda... meh.
