The most overrated "underrated" game I've ever played.

It's kind of funny how many will point to this game and say what a shame it is that it didn't succeed, blah blah blah. There's a clear and easy reason why this was the case:
the game is nothing special.

It's similar to other platforming/adventure games but inferior to them in just about every way. The combat is subpar, the story is subpar, the stealth sections and vehicle sections are annoying... it just doesn't do a whole lot particularly well. It's not a terrible game, mind you: it's just a generic one. And it was ignored for a reason.

I must admit that when I say the main character holding a camera on the cover, I really thought this was not going to be a good game. I couldn't be more wrong, this is a very engaging game, very cool mini-games, awesome combat system and the best part, a really cool story.
If you are looking for a cool action adventure game with a touch of cartoonish graphics (pretty awesome cartoonish graphics by the way), then this is your game.
I must admit thought that the game may slow down a little bit at times, but is so little it doesn't affect the game flow.

I'm mostly an action gamer -- I get frustrated with puzzles. My wife isn't a gamer at all -- but she sat next to me on this game and helped me figure out the puzzles. The cinematics, writing, and plot are good enough that she wasn't bored, even though she wasn't "driving."

I was very impressed by the overall game design, the many modes of play (fly, drive, race, explore, fight, photograph), and the sound design. If you enjoy an involving game experience, pick up Beyond Good & Evil.

you may not find another console game that is as emotionally rewarding as Beyond Good and Evil. it is a beautifully rendered artistic masterpiece with WONDERFUL characters and a remarkably detailed world filled with various intriguing life forms. your mission (playing as Jade) is to save the city. i must say that the ecological overtones are quite suprising (and warmly embraced). the characters are realistic and memorable, the mission is admirable and the gameplay "world" is quite unforgettable. the game evokes a wonderful innocent sense of "quest and adventure" and seems as if it might have fallen right out of a young George Lucas's brain during a happy youthful daydream. this game is MORE than highly recommended. in fact,..it is a MUST OWN. JET BOOTS ATTACK!!!!

No evil involved, simply beyond good

When I bought this, as one of the two games I first bought for ps2, I wasn't sure about it. I hadn't heard much about it except for the fact that a few reviewers really liked and it didn't sell well. But, since it was cheap, and I was looking for something that looked good to start out my ps2 collection, I bought it. And boy was I surprised.

At first I wasn't sure about it. I played once or twice without really thinking about it much, but then one day I felt the need to play it again, like a slight tug on my sleeve. And when I played it again, I realized I was hooked.

The storyline is enthralling, the gameplay is fantastic, and the originality of the game just blew me away. I don't know any other game that blends government conspiracy, wacky characters, picture-taking, and fighting so seamlessly. This game is one of the best, most original games I've ever played. I recommend it to absolutely everyone. And if you look at all the other other reviews, you'll notice that none go below four stars. It's so sad this sold so badly, because I consider it a must buy.

I must begin this review by saying that I LOVE THIS GAME! This is one of the first games that I have ever played, where I completed 100% of the game. Now, I didn't beat 100% because it was easy, I beat 100% because I fell SO in love with the storyline of this game that I didn't want to stop playing.

I have beaten this game now, and am immensly sad that I can no longer play. I do not want to ruin any plot points, but this story draws you into it so well that at one point during the game- I got a little misty eyed. The graphics and video clips they show during this game are amazing.

If you enjoy RPG puzzle games, this is the best game in the world for you. Its a brilliant story, with incredible graphics and clever puzzles. Its a must buy!

What can I say.......I enjoy playing video games to unwind, and this one fills the bill! The scenery is amazing and the story line is consistent. If you enjoy seeking to find items, then this is the game for you. The game is also easy to play; you are not consumed with dying and having to restart often. You can just sit back and explore and enjoy playing the game. And for the price....you can't beat it!

Good story.
Fun gameplay.

Not a "kill everything in sight" game. Which to me is refreshing. There are a few layers to each mission. One is to advance the overall storyline, the other is to take pictures of animals/creatures to earn money. The third is to unearth pearls to beef up your vehicles.

The stealth aspects are what drew me to this one. While with guile you can defeat difficult opponents, you can also avoid the confrontation altogether by sticking to the shadows and sneaking past them. There are many save-game spots in each level and if you should be "killed" you just start over from a step or two before the fight that did you in.

That said, my beef is that the big final confrontation is a battle royale and not in step with the rest of the gameplay.

You know the drill...

Diverse Gameplay? It's here
Wonderful graphics? You know it

But, unfortunately like great titles like Mark of Kri, Ico, and the Frequency series, this too has gone largely unnoticed by the gaming community. And now, it joins the bargain bin along with the aforementioned games. Good for those who don't yet have it, but bad for the industry in general.

I mean really, if games this good don't sell, can you blame developers for not wanting to make them?

Buy this game NOW

...or wait until it gets cheaper. You'll enjoy it.

One of THE MOST OVERLOOKED GAMES! I love this game! I only bought it after sooo many people and magazine reviewers said how great it was. It was also a total bargain so what the heck. This game is great if you want to escape into a futuristic fantasy world and do exploring, fighting, sneaking, and solving puzzles. I am half way through it and love it. It is not a mainstream game and has one of the more well thought out stories in video games. If you liked games like Dues Ex, Zelda, and other adventure conspiracy games then give this a try!
