Beatmania Comes to the PS2!

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 2
Date: April 01, 2007
Author: Amazon User

This is the first installment of the Beatmania series, and overall it would be a starting point for all gamers who enjoy hitting a beat or two on their spare time.

Outline : The main purpose of the game revolves around hand eye co-ordination and beat recognition. The beatmania pad (which you must purchase seperately), includes 5 keys that represent different notes/beats in different songs. Score is based on how well one presses the correct button at the right time. Gameplay involves the user hitting a specific button corresponding to the beat required in the song.

Graphics: Being the first Beatmania, the graphics are mediocre. Abit flashy at times, with lots of bright colors that occasionally get in the way.

Music: For a game that is based on DJ beat matching, the music choice is very limited and overall not fulfilling. After a few days of playing, I personally felt bored with the song list.

Gameplay: Being the first of its kind, BeatMania was an arcade hit in Asia. Beatmania includes 5 key play as well as 7 key play at different speeds and difficulty. Learning curve is about 2 seconds since its pretty self explanatory.

Overall: To be honest, you're probably better off getting a newer installation of the game as it has more challenging aspects, newer songs, MORE songs, and improved graphics. But for anyone that wouldn't mind getting back to the roots of Beatmania, its still a decent buy.

*Please note that this game does not simulate what a real DJ does, nor is it meant to. If you considered buying this game for the purpose of becoming a DJ, go buy a real turntable and mixer.

Note: Without the purchase of the Beatmania Pad, the game itself is horrendous. Using the PS2 controller for this game yields more frustration than satisfaction. If you buy this game make SURE you also purchase the beatmania pad.

I would love to review this product but...

I never recived it because it was shipped via DHL and they didn't leave notice that I needed to contact them in order to get my item. They then shipped the item back to amazon, which was then out of stock of said item and could not ship me another copy.

I am sure this is a fun game, but I wouldn't know as I didn't get my copy. I would like to stress don't let them send the item DHL if you are not around during the middle of the day to recive the item as you like me may not get it.

can't play the game

This game did not come with a controller, and you can't find the controller anywere - not even on Amazon. This was a waste of money, as you can't really play the game without the controller.
