I got this game on the day it came out and I have to say that it is VERY fun. The environments are a little on the smaller side, but are very interactive. Just about any weapon, item or ledge can be used to pummel your opponent into knockout. There are many wrestlers to choose from including The Insane Clown Posse, although they are not selectable at the beginning and they are quite hard to unlock. Trust me, as my friends and I have already gone through the talk show mode (basicly a season mode) and it can get quite frustrating. Also featured are Twiztid, although we still havent unlocked Madrox, Mad Man Pondo, Sabu and Karnage and Masked Mike Jackson of BYW home video fame, plus a host of others. This game is not without it's draw backs however. The controls can get a little sketchy at times, especialy when trying to do the high flying leaps. Nothing is more frustrating than lining up an opponent on the ground then trying to climb up a ledge and having your character run back and forth or climbing up a ledge and falling off when you press the kick button. We have also had numorous instances of getting "stuck' behind the scenery, an obvious glitch that should have been fixed. But, all in all, this is a really fun game that is worth the purchase. The wrestling animation is great, especially the reversals, and the actual grappling interface is great. Plus, the sound track is killer. A whopping 41 tracks including 5 ICP songs, plus tracks from Twiztid, Sepultura, Biohazard, CKY, Anthrax, Neck and a ton more, all uncensored! So with just a few draw backs, this game is super cool and worthy of addition to any gamers library, especially wrestling/ICP fans. Also, any wrestling gamers that like blood in your wrestling games...
Mediocre title

The developer of the infamous Thrill Kill brings you Backyard Wrestling, a deceptively innovative title that glorifies the frighteningly popular antics of such backyard wrestling phenomena as Josh Prohibition, MDogg20, and Madman Pondo. Chances are you haven't heard those names before, and that's okay; the game relies little on personalities in its odd blend of wrestling and party-game combat. Backyard Wrestling's core gameplay places two fighters in an improvised ring of sorts, such as the parking lot of a mall, the backyard of a mansion, or the floor of an abandoned slaughterhouse. While the game's title promises wrestling action, the gameplay actually supports something more like Power Stone-esque hijinks: You run around, toss bricks and bicycles, and leap off impossibly high structures onto your opponent. It's pretty cool to beat someone into submission with a television set before you pick them up and whip them through the glass of a large aquarium on the wall. The coolest thing about these levels is that each one has some sort of "unlockable" hazard, such as the security guard who emerges if you slam your opponent into the SUV parked behind the mall. This makes each match a little different and helps avoid the "wrestle, taunt, wrestle, taunt, pin" pattern of THQ's WWE titles. Backyard Wrestling's problem isn't in its concept but rather in its finish. It just doesn't look, sound, or play well enough to keep up with the cool core design idea; the graphics hearken back to the PS2's first generation, the muffled sound does what it needs to and not a bit more, and the controls just feel sloppy and awkward. Collision problems and timing issues mar the otherwise smart rock-paper-scissors nature of the grappling system, and it's just too hard to avoid getting hit by thrown, apparently heat-seeking projectiles. The reversal system thankfully eliminates the thumb-destroying button mashing of other titles, but it takes tons of practice and split-second timing to pull off. Finally, the Create A Wrestler mode is a joke and seems like an afterthought, but it's a decent alternative to playing as one of Backyard Wrestling's mostly unknown selectable characters. Backyard Wrestling is notable for its clever design, but there's a bit too much sloppiness in its execution to really hook a wide audience. The chaotic action's fun enough (especially in two-player matches), but only the most hardcore will ignore its faults.
Good game, fun with friends.

We all know violence is a spectator sport, and me and my friends like this game, because we can do tons of different things in any match we have. It's not like WWE games where it's all about the same, it's open-ended. I enjoy being able to put people on tables and being able to break things on opponents' heads.
And hey, the blood's great, the characters are pretty well done, and it's got a huge soundtrack, so you don't hear the same song during every match! Definitely worth a buy in my opinion.
Amazing, Wild, and Crazy Fun For All!

Before this game was released, I was a little tenative. I mean, backyard wrestling isn't exactly my favorite--- but once the game was out and in my hands, words cannot describe my addiction to it.
This is the first time since the game was released on TUESDAY that I've managed to pry myself away from it. The game's features are amazing. Fully interactive environments, hardcore wrestlers like MAD MAN PONDO, JOSH PROHIBITION, and M DOGG 20, a killer soundtrack, and an amazing affinity for blood and gore!
Nothing is more fun than sitting down with a group of friends and letting the blood flow in this game! The fact that you can use or climb on just about everything in this game is an amazing feature and I applaud EIDOS for having the guts to try something new and exciting in a tired old genre!
Thanks to EIDOS, the wrestling game genre has new life! Get your copy of BACKYARD WRESTLING. You won't regret it! :-D

I was proud of myself with my restraint. I wanted to buy this game the day it came out, but having been burned on many wrestling titles I decided to rent the game from the local video store. Good thing I did because I'm sure I'll be tired of it before my 5 days is up.
The controls feel slopy. The computer cheeses like crazy (mostly by repeatedly throwing things that you can't dodge). And there isn't much selection in the way of characters.
On the up side, this game is a very origional twist on wrestling. I can't say I agree with the real BYW, but in video game form, I can't really see the harm in it. The enviroments are very interactive. I was surprised when I was able to set a matress on fire and burn my oponnent.
Though this is not a great game there is promise. The Smackdown series started off rather weak, but now it is the best of the wrestling titles.

Being a hardcore WWE and backyard wrestling fan, I decided to rent this game. I must say this is probably the worst non-wwe game on the market today. The worst rap group in the world, ICP had alot of say in this game. Most of the players in the game arent even backyard wrestlers. Putting ICP in the game and the Twisted guy in the game was absolutely horrible. Where are guys like Creeping Death, and all the other guys in the Backyard Wrestling dvd series? The gameplay is the worst by far. You have to just press a bunch of buttons and they will do a move. To actually call this a backyard wrestling video game is a crime. The best quality this game has is the audio with the exception of the ICP songs. Let's just hope that when BYW 2 comes out, they will improve it.

this game is fun and cool, but i had to give it 3 stars because of the time it takes to load. i can play 2 or 3 rounds of golf before the game loads up. the controls aren't that great also. the game could use a lot of improvement. the 'create a character' mode was horrible. you can't create a character, you have to pick one. overall, i found it fun to play, but considered suicide while waiting for the game to load.
