A Lost Treasure.

This is the first Bomberman game and is quite simply, one of the best games I've ever played. Overshadowed by "Bomberman Online" for the Dreamcast, "Bomberman Tournament" for the Gameboy Advance, "Bomberman Generations" which will come to Nintendo Gamecube around 2002-2003. It has also been agnored by other Sega Saturn games like "Virtua Fighter 2" and "Panzer Dragoon". Bomberman for the Sega Saturn has a lot to offer any gamer. It's graphics were superb at the time and no, they are not blocky like you would expect. The deep gameplay and long adventure (about 30 hours) kept me addicted to this Saturn classic. Bomberman has a great deal of multiplay, no its not four players, it's 10! Yes 10! There are some cons about Bomberman, first off, the controller can be irritating when you are playing in a difficult area that requires absolute concentration, second, load times can be so slow that you'd rather watch TV. However, it is rare when load times are really long, and heck, if the controller is uncomfortable, does that mean all Xbox games are bad? Didn't think so. So with this in mind, I didn't take off any stars. Bomberman is pretty hard-to-find, and so is the Sega Saturn console. But, if you can find a Saturn at a decent price, buy Bomberman. And if Bomberman isn't enough, check out Panzer Dragoon, Sega Sports titles , Virtua Fighter 2, Nights, and a heck of a lot more good stuff. Overall grade: 91%

Actually, this isn't the first Bomberman game (no offense to Alex who's review I read), but it is the best. Really, it's the only home video game with anywhere up to 10 human players sitting together at once. Only problem : you need a lot of joysticks and at least one multitap (with one multitap on the sega Saturn you can get up to 7 players at once, still a truck-load of fun), the single player / two player game is not brilliant, though it is fun. Basically the more people you have the more fun you'll have. This game does not get boring over time like ALL others, you can play this one for years.

One of the BEST bomberman games ever!

This is a biased review from a huge Bomberfan.

Saturn Bomberman is, in my opinion, the second best of the entire Bomberman series.

I first played this after Mega Bomberman for genesis. The only time I ever had any hate for this game was while I first read the manual, and it stated that the eggs contained Dinosaurs. This bugged me to no end...until I saw the cinematic ending after beating the quest mode. I won't spoil anything, but after that I fell in love with those critters!

This game has quite a few perks and was beyond revolutionary for its time;

~It actually has TWO quest modes, although one is short.
~10 players at one time in one room? Enough said.
~Online play = pure bliss while it lasted!

There are, in my opinion, only a very few, but understandable shortcomings;

~Only 1 10 player field {but 7 other fields for 8 players to use at one time}. This single "wide" field is bloody HUGE, and its amazing in all its glory, but adding more than one "wide" field would have just been pure rapture. Honestly although this game packs so much in one tiny disc, i'm amazed at that! The second short quest mode had 20 fields + an assortment of bad guys that were never seen in the main quest mode, and could have been sacrificed for more "wide" fields,+ something else possibly.

~Only 2 real "bomberman" to choose from in multiplayer. The white & black. It was a cute idea for Huddsen to use their other characters, but when I play bomberman, i'm always the red one...and that just sort of bugs me. This is a personal issue really, not a game problem.

But in the end, if your looking for the ultimate bomberman game, then you NEED this! This is worth buying a Saturn over!

A note to future buyers; Purchasing the Japanese version is alot cheaper than spending $70+ for the American release. You can get around regional discs buy finding an Action Reply Auto Plus 4M memory cart for your Saturn! Cheap as $25 and you can play ALL regions on your American Saturn! It even has a huge memory setup for games!
